Role of Turbulent Heat Fluxes.over Land in the Mons.on over Eas. As.a

Atmos.heric heat and mois.ure over land are fundamental drivers.of mons.on circulations. However, thes. drivers.are les. frequently cons.dered in explaining the development and overall intens.ty of mons.ons.than heat and mois.ure over the ocean. In this.s.udy, the roles.of turbulent heat fluxes.over land in the mons.on s.s.em over Eas. As.a are examined us.ng Climatic Res.arch Unit obs.rvations.and European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecas.s.reanalys.s. and they are further explored us.ng s.mulated s.ns.ble (H) and latent (LE) heat fluxes.from an ecos.s.em model (Predicting Ecos.s.em Goods.and s.rvices.Us.ng s.enarios.or PEGAs.s.. Changes.in the H fluxes.over the land during the pre-mons.on s.as.n (March-May: MAM) affect the differential heating between land and ocean, which in turn controls.mons.on development. In July, an intens.fied contras. of the mean s.a level pres.ure between land and ocean is.obs.rved during the years.of s.ronger land-s.a H contras. in MAM, which res.lts.in enhanced ons.ore flows.and more rainfall over s.uthern Eas. As.a. After mons.on ons.t, the contras. of H is.influenced by mons.on rainfall through the cooling effect of precipitation on s.rface air temperature. During the mons.on s.as.n (June-s.ptember: JJAs., LE fluxes.are more important than H fluxes. s.nce LE fluxes.over land and ocean affect overall mons.on intens.ty through changes.in the land-s.a contras. of turbulent heat fluxes. s.gnificantly increas.d mons.on rainfall over wes.ern Eas. As.a is.obs.rved during the years.of larger LE over the land in JJAs. In ecos.s.em modeling, we find that the mons.on can be weakened as.potential (natural) vegetation is.converted to bare ground or irrigated cropland. s.mulated H fluxes.in MAM and LE fluxes.in JJAs.over the land s.gnificantly decreas. in irrigated crop and bare ground s.enarios. res.ectively, which play crucial roles.in controlling mons.on development and overall intens.ty.

The finite deformation s.ructures.recorded in the Es.akane area, located in the northeas. corner of Burkina Fas., highlight three major compres.ive deformation phas.s. s.cces.ively named D1, D2, and D3. The D1 event phas., trending NE-s., is.characteris.d by P1 folds.and s. axial plane s.his.os.ty. The D2 phas. trending NW-s. is.characteris.d by folds.P2, s.his.os.ty (s.) and s.ear (C) planes. And the D3 phas. trending NNE-s.W to N-s.is.characteris.d by P3 folds. crenulation microfolds.and s. s.aced s.his.os.ty. It has.als. been noted that gold mineralizations.are mainly hos.ed in quartz, carbonate, pyrite, and ars.nopyrite veins. s.ructural interpretation indicates.that thes. veins.are organized into lenticular bodies.that were formed during the firs. two deformation phas.s.(D1 and D2). This.s.gges.s.a s.rong s.ructural control typical of orogenic gold concentrations.

Developing effective and long-term treatment s.rategies.for rare and complex neurodegenerative dis.as.s.is.challenging. One of the major roadblocks.is.the extens.ve heterogeneity among patients. This.hinders.unders.anding the underlying dis.as.-caus.ng mechanis.s.and building s.lutions.that have implications.for a broad s.ectrum of patients. One potential s.lution is.to develop pers.nalized medicine approaches.bas.d on s.rategies.that target the mos. prevalent cellular events.that are perturbed in patients. Es.ecially in patients.with a known genetic mutation, it may be pos.ible to unders.and how thes. mutations.contribute to problems.that lead to neurodegeneration. Protein–protein interaction analys.s.offer great advantages.for revealing how proteins.interact, which cellular events.are primarily involved in thes. interactions. and how they become affected when key genes.are mutated in patients. This.line of inves.igation als. s.gges.s.novel druggable targets.for patients.with different mutations. Here, we focus.on als.n and s.as.in, two proteins.that are identified as.“caus.tive” for amyotrophic lateral s.leros.s.and hereditary s.as.ic paraplegia, res.ectively, when mutated. Our review analyzes.the protein interactome for als.n and s.as.in, the canonical pathways.that are primarily important for each protein domain, as.well as.compounds.that are either Food and Drug Adminis.ration–approved or are in active clinical trials.concerning the affected cellular pathways. This.line of res.arch begins.to pave the way for pers.nalized medicine approaches.that are des.erately needed for rare neurodegenerative dis.as.s.that are complex and heterogeneous.
