Background: Using ultrasound to measure optic nerve sheath diameter(ONSD) is an emerging bedside technique to noninvasively assess intracranial pressure(ICP) in patients with brain injury. This technique is unique among bedside ultrasonography and is often performed by providers who have no formal ultrasound training. We sought to create a low-cost, 3 D, reusable ONSD model to train neurology, neurosurgery, and critical care providers in measuring ***: We identified 253 articles, of which 15 were associated with models and 2 with simulation. One gelatin model was reported, upon which we based our initial design. We could not validate the visual findings of this model;however, after constructing multiple beta models, the design most representative of human eye anatomy was a globe made of ballistics gel and either a 3 mm, 5 mm, or 7 mm×50 mm 3 D-printed optic nerve inserted into a platform composed of ballistics gel, all of which sat inside a 3 D-printed skull. This model was used to teach ONSD measurements with ultrasound at a continuing medical education event prior to training on a live human ***: A simple 3 D ballistic ONSD model allows learners to practice proper hand placement and pressure, basic landmarks, and ONSD measurement prior to operating on a human eye. This model is replicable and sustainable given that the globe and platform are composed of ballistics gel.

Currently,the prognosis of patients with metastatic prostate cancer is most commonly defined by clinical factors including performance status,presence of visceral metastasis,lactate dehydrogenase level,opioid analgesic use,albumin level,presence of anemia,prostate-specific antigen level,and alkaline phosphatase level(i.e.,Halabi model).1 This model is most commonly used in the current prospective clinical trials ***,it is only an inference of the underlying biology and not a direct measurement of that biology.

Alcoholic hepatitis is the most severe and acute form of alcoholic liver *** mortality rate associated with alcoholic hepatitis is high,largely due to the lack of suitable pharmacological *** there has been substantial research in the area,generating pharmacological interventions has been plagued by the lack of a robust mouse model both for testing and for understanding the underlying pathology.A number of major notable advances have been made in this area recently,with the goal of generating a mouse model of alcoholic *** purpose of this article is to review recent advances in modeling alcoholic liver disease both in vitro and in vivo in the mouse,and place them in the context of the greater spectrum of alcoholic liver disease,with a focus on how we can translate current advances into a high-fidelity model of alcoholic *** addition,we will review the basic mechanisms of alcoholic hepatitis as it is currently understood,focusing on recent advancements in diagnosis,prognosis and current pathophysiology,especially as it relates to the profound immune dysfunction present during alcoholic hepatitis.

Wild dogma： An examination of recent ＂evidence＂ for dingo regulation of invasive mesopredator release in Australia

There is growing interest in the role that apex predators play in shaping terrestrial ecosystems and maintaining tro- phic cascades. In line with the mesopredator release hypothesis, Australian dingoes （Canis lupus dingo and hybrids） are assumed by many to regulate the abundance of invasive mesopredators, such as red foxes Vulpes vulpes and feral cats Fells catus, thereby providing indirect benefits to various threatened vertebrates. Several recent papers have claimed to provide evidence for the bio- diversity benefits of dingoes in this way. Nevertheless, in this paper we highlight several critical weaknesses in the methodologi- cal approaches used in many of these reports, including lack of consideration for seasonal and habitat differences in activity, the complication of simple track-based indices by incorporating difficult-to-meet assumptions, and a reduction in sensitivity for as-sessing populations by using binary measures rather than potentially continuous measures. Of the 20 studies reviewed, 15 of them （75%） contained serious methodological flaws, which may partly explain the inconclusive nature of the literature investigating interactions between invasive Australian predators. We therefore assert that most of the ＂growing body of evidence＂ for meso- predator release is merely an inconclusive growing body of literature only. We encourage those interested in studying the eco- logical roles of dingoes relative to invasive mesopredators and native prey species to account for the factors we identify, and cau- tion the value of studies that have not done so [Current Zoology 57 （5）： 568-583, 2011].

Wild dogma II： The role and implications of wild dogma for wild dog management in Australia

The studies of Allen （2011） and Allen et al. （2011） recently examined the methodology underpinning claims that dingoes provide net benefits to biodiversity by suppressing foxes and cats. They found most studies to have design flaws and/or observational methods that preclude valid interpretations from the data, describing most of the current literature as ＇wild dogma＇. In this short supplement, we briefly highlight the roles and implications of wild dogma for wild dog management in Australia. We discuss nomenclature, and the influence that unreliable science can have on policy and practice changes related to apex predator management

Spectrophotometric analyses of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine(RDX) in water

A simple and accurate spectrophotometric method for on-site analysis of royal demolition explosive（RDX） in water samples was developed based on the Berthelot reaction. The sensitivity and accuracy of an existing spectrophotometric method was improved by：replacing toxic chemicals with more stable and safer reagents; optimizing the reagent dose and reaction time; improving color stability; and eliminating the interference from inorganic nitrogen compounds in water samples. Cation and anion exchange resin cartridges were developed and used for sample pretreatment to eliminate the effect of ammonia and nitrate on RDX analyses. The detection limit of the method was determined to be 100 μg/l. The method was used successfully for analysis of RDX in untreated industrial wastewater samples. It can be used for on-site monitoring of RDX in wastewater for early detection of chemical spills and failure of wastewater treatment systems.

Enzalutamide in chemo-naTve castration-resistant prostate cancer： effective for most but not for all

Continued research in the treatment of castration-resistant prostate understanding of this disease entity and further treatment advances. In a study recently published by Beer et al.1 in the New England Journal of Medicine, another advance to treatment was demonstrated for the androgen receptor （AR） signaling inhibitor, enzalutamide, in patients with chemotherapy-nalve metastatic CRPC. Although a large majority of patients responded favorably to enzalutamide in the prechemotherapy setting, a small but significant proportion of patients demonstrated no meaningful benefit to this agent. This highlights an important concept in the understanding of this disease： inherent and acquired resistance to AR-targeting therapies.

Evaluating soil erosion and runoff dynamics in a humid subtropic, low stream order, southern plains watershed from cultivation and solar farm development

Much work has been done to understand and improve soil and water conservation where agriculture has driven land use *** is known about soil-and water-related impacts from intensification driven by solar farming,especially at *** we employed Hydrologic Engineering Center's Hydrologic Modeling System(HEC-HMS)to model Pond Creek,a rural watershed in Texas,*** use is primarily crop cultivation and secondarily pasture for cattle ***,several industrial-scale projects are planned to convert≈15–30%of Pond Creek from agriculture to solar *** model was parameterized using public data sources and information from local stakeholders,then calibrated to several historical precipitation *** were conducted by varying precipitation depth,duration,and land uses:native vegetation pre-cultivation(control),cultivation(current),current conditions with 15%solar farm conversion(solar),and current conditions with 30%solar farm conversion(solar x2).Shifting to solar farming led to significant increases in cumulative sediment load(+12%–30%),with no significant differences in peak discharge rate changes(+0.38%–4%).Comparison to soil loss tolerance values showed current and solar treatment erosion rates exceeded tolerance values between 0.17 and 2.29 tons per hectare and all treatments were significantly different than the native *** discuss high leverage strategies applicable to solar farm development sites as well as watersheds where they *** demand for land for renewable energy such as solar farming warrants greater attention from the soil and water conservation community to anticipate and mitigate impacts across landscapes.

Background:Brain structural alterations of the striatum have been frequently observed in internet gaming disorder(IGD);however,the replicability of the results and the associations with social-affective dysregulations such as social anxiety remain to be ***:The present study combined a dimensional neuroimaging approach with both voxel-wise and data-driven multivariate approaches to(i)replicate our previous results on a negative association between IGD symptom load(assessed by the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form)and striatal volume,(ii)extend these findings to female individuals,and(iii)employ multivariate and mediation models to determine common brain structural representations of IGD and social anxiety(assessed by the liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale).Results:In line with the original study,the voxel-wise analyses revealed a negative association between IGD and volumes of the bilateral *** beyond the earlier study investigating only male participants,the present study demonstrates that the association in the right caudate was comparable in both the male and the female *** examination using themultivariate approach revealed regionally different associations between IGD and social anxiety with striatal density representations in the dorsal striatum(caudate)and ventral striatum(nucleus accumbens).Higher levels of IGD were associated with higher social anxiety and the association was critically mediated by the multivariate neurostructural density variations of the ***:Altered striatal volumes may represent a replicable and generalizable marker of IGD ***,exploratory multivariate analyses revealed more complex and regional specific associations between striatal density and IGD as well as social anxiety *** in both tendencies may share common structural brain representations,which mediate the association between increased IGD and social anxiety.
