Nitrogen oxides(NOx,the sum of nitric oxide(NO) and N dioxide(NO2)) emissions and deposition have increased markedly over the past several decades,resulting in many adverse outcomes in both terrestrial and oceanic ***,because the microbial NOxemissions have been substantially underestimated on the land and unconstrained in the ocean,the global microbial NOxemissions and their importance relative to the known fossil-fuel NOxemissions remain *** we complied data on stable N isotopes of nitrate in atmospheric particulates over the land and ocean to ground-truth estimates of NOxemissions *** considering the N isotope effect of NOxtransformations to particulate nitrate combined with dominant NOxemissions in the land(coal combustion,oil combustion,biomass burning and microbial N cycle) and ocean(oil combustion,microbial N cycle),we demonstrated that microbial NOxemissions account for 24 ± 4%,58 ± 3% and 31 ± 12% in the land,ocean and global environment,*** amounts of microbial NOxemissions in the land(13.6 ± 4.7 Tg N yr-1),ocean(8.8 ± 1.5 Tg N yr-1) and globe(22.5 ± 4.7 Tg N yr-1) are about 0.5,1.4 and 0.6 times on average those of fossil-fuel NOx emissions in these *** findings provide empirical constraints on model predictions,revealing significant contributions of the microbial N cycle to regional NOx emissions into the atmospheric system,which is critical information for mitigating strategies,budgeting N deposition and evaluating the effects of atmospheric NOxloading on the world.

Crystal and phase morphologies and structures determined by self-organization of crystalline-amorphous diblockcopolymers, crystallization of the crystallizable blocks, and vitrification of the amorphous blocks are reviewed through asystematic study on a series of poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polystyrene (PEO-b-PS) diblock copolymers. On the base ofcompetitions among these three processes, molecular and supramolecular ordering in confined environments can beinvestigated. In a concentration-fluctuation-induced disordered (D_(CF)) diblock copolymer, the competition between crystalli-zation of the PEO blocks and vitrification of the PS blocks is momtored by time-resolved simultaneous small angle X-rayscattering (SAXS) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) techniques. In the case of T_czation of thePEO blocks is observed to be confined within the bicontinuous D_(CF) phase due to the rapid vitrification of the PS-rich *** crystallization rate, crystal melting behavior, and crystallinity results further confirm the competition betweencrystallization and vitrification at different temperatures. In an ordered lamellar PEO-b-PS diblock copolymer, the crystalli-zation of the PEO blocks is completely confined within the ordered lamellae due to rapid vitrification of the PS layers asobserved by time-resolved SAXS and WAXD experiments. From the combined two-dimensional SAXS and WAXDmeasurements, the crystal orientation within the confined lamellar geometry is found parallel to the lamellar surface normalwhen it is isothermally crystallized at 35℃. In an ordered cylindrical PEO-b-PS sample, the crystallization of the PEO blocksis also observed to be confined within the ordered cylinders because of rapid vitrification of the PS matrix. The crystalorientation within the confined cylinders is found perpendicular to the cylinder axis as it is crystallized at 35℃.

Human activities have increased reactive nitrogen(Nr)input to terrestrial ecosystems compared with the pre-industrial ***,the fate of such Nr input remains uncertain,leading to missing sink of the global nitrogen *** synthesizing records of Nr burial in sediments from 303 lakes worldwide,here we show that 9.6±1.1 Tg N year^(-1)(Tg=10^(12) g)accumulated in inland water sediments from 2000 to 2010,accounting for 3%-5% of global Nr input to the land from combined natural and anthropogenic *** recent Nr burial flux doubles pre-industrial estimates,and Nr burial rate significantly increases with global increases in human population and air *** ratios of C:N decrease after 1950 while N:P ratios increase over time due to increasingly elevated Nr burial and other related processes in *** findings imply that Nr burial in lakes is overlooked as an important global sink of Nr input to terrestrial ecosystems.

The goal of this mixed-methods study was to identify and compare the key capacity considerations regarding public health system resilience before and after the 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquakes. Public health system resilience was assessed through online and face-to-face workshops using the United Nations Public Health System Resilience Scorecard. The pre-earthquake evaluation was conducted in Istanbul and Trabzon in 2021; the post-earthquake evaluation took place in Hatay and Kahramanmara? in 2023, with a total of 41 participants each. The online workshops lasted approximately four days, while the face-to-face workshops lasted one day. The study found a significant decrease in the scores for most scorecard resilience indicators in the post-earthquake assessment. Qualitative analysis showed that this decline was largely due to infrastructure collapse. Additionally, defining the roles of health disciplines in disaster management and having data transmission procedures between public health system stakeholders in disasters were among the main capacity considerations in both the pre-and post-earthquake assessments. The post-earthquake evaluation revealed several capacity gaps that had not been addressed in pre-earthquake assessments in areas such as disaster preparedness of vulnerable populations and logistics. The findings highlight the critical importance of strengthening building stock and infrastructure to establish a disaster-resilient public health system.

Ecthyma gangrenosum of the scrotum： a case report

A 43-year-old man with pancytopenia from chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia developed left scrotal pain, fever, and rigors. Physical exam revealed an ulcerating lesion with central necrosis and eschar surrounded by a halo of erythema on the inferior aspect of the left scrotum. The condition indicated an early necrofizing soft tissue infection. The patient was started on broad-spectrum antibiotics and taken to the operating room for a wound debridement. Blood and tissue cultures grew Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which confirmed the diagnosis of ecthyma gangrenosum of the scrotum. The fever resolved, and the wound healed without further progression after wet to dry dressing changes.

Intermediate polaronic charge transport in organic crystals from a many-body first-principles approach

Charge transport in organic molecular crystals (OMCs) is conventionally categorized into two limiting regimes − band transport,characterized by weak electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions,and charge hopping due to localized polarons formed by strong e-ph ***,between these two limiting cases there is a less well understood intermediate regime where polarons are present but transport does not occur via *** we show a many-body first-principles approach that can accurately predict the carrier mobility in this intermediate regime and shed light on its microscopic *** approach combines a finite-temperature cumulant method to describe strong e-ph interactions with Green-Kubo transport *** apply this parameter-free framework to naphthalene crystal,demonstrating electron mobility predictions within a factor of 1.5−2 of experiment between 100 and 300 *** analysis reveals the formation of a broad polaron satellite peak in the electron spectral function and the failure of the Boltzmann equation in the intermediate regime.
