Particle number and mass concentrations were measured in Beijing during the winter and summer periods in 2003, together with some other parameters including black carbon (BC) and meteorological conditions. Particle mass concentrations exhibited low seasonality, and the ratio of PM2.5/PM10 in winter was higher than that in summer. Particle number size distribution (PSD) was characterized by four modes and exhibited low seasonality. BC was well correlated with the number and mass concentrations of accumulation and coarse particles, indicating these size particles are related to anthropogenic activities. Particle mass and number concentrations (except ultra-fine and nucleation particles) followed well the trends of BC concentration for the majority of the day, indicating that most particles were associated with primary emissions. The diurnal number distributions of accumulation and coarse mode particles were characterized by two peaks.

Campaigns were conducted to measure Organic Carbon （OC） and Elemental Carbon （EC） in PM2.5 during winter and summer 2003 in Beijing. Modest differences of PM2.5 and PM10 mean concentrations were observed between the winter and summer campaigns. The mean PM2.5/PM10 ratio in both seasons was around 60%, indicating PM2.5 contributed significantly to PM10. The mean concentrations of OC and EC in PM2.5 were 11.2±7.5 and 6.0±5.0 μg m^-3 for the winter campaign, and 9.4±2.1 and 4.3±3.0 μg m^-3 for the summer campaign, respectively. Diurnal concentrations of OC and EC in PM2.5 were found high at night and low during the daytime in winter, and characterized by an obvious minimum in the summer afternoon. The mean OC/EC ratio was 1.87±0.09 for winter and 2.39±0.49 for summer. The higher OC/EC ratio in summer indicates some formation of Secondary Organic Carbon （SOC）. The estimated SOC was 2.8 μg m^-3 for winter and 4.2 μg m^-3 for summer.

Air pollutant measurement and respiratory inflammatory tests were conducted at a junior secondary school in Xi’an, Northwestern *** substances including particulate matters(PM), black carbon(BC), and particle-bounded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) were quantified both indoors and outdoors of the *** characterization with organic tracers and particle sizedistribution demonstrated that the school’s air was mostly polluted by combustion emissions from the surrounding *** evaluation of health assessment related to air quality was conducted by two methods, including potential risk estimation of air pollutants and direct respiratory inflammatory *** incremental lifetime cancer risks(ILCRs) associated with PAHs were estimated, and were 1.62×10 and 2.34×10 respectively, for indoor and outdoor fine *** the values exceeded the threshold value of 1×10, demonstrating that the carcinogenic PAHs are a health threat to the *** inflammatory responses of 50 students who studied in the sample classroom were examined with a fractional exhaled nitric oxide(Fe NO) test, with the aid of health *** average Fe NO concentration was 17.4±8.5 ppb, which was slightly lower than the recommended level of 20 ppb established by the American Thoracic Society(ATS) for ***, a wide distribution and 6% of the values were >35 ppb, suggesting that the potentials was still high for eosinophilic inflammation and responsiveness to corticosteroids.A preliminary interpretation of the relationship between air toxins and respiratory inflammatory response demonstrated the high exposure cancer risks and inflammatory responses of the students to PMs in the city.

对西安市某初中学校冬春季4个不同粒径大气颗粒物中多环芳烃(PAHs)水平的研究表明,此中学室内外PM_(2.5)样品中PAHs的平均浓度为82.57 ng·m^(-3),室外PAHs浓度大于室内浓度,其中具有强致癌性组分BaP的平均浓度为3.24 ng·m^(-3)。PM_(2.5)中PAHs浓度明显高于其他大粒径颗粒物的PAHs浓度,这表明颗粒物粒径越小PAHs浓度就越高,也间接表明其对人体健康,尤其是青少年健康的影响也越大。研究期间PAHs的BaP平均等效浓度(BEQ)为9.30,且室外BEQ值大于室内。

In subjects with Down syndrome the obstructive sleep apnea is the cause of many disorders (cognitive and cardiovascular disorders, premature exhaustion, increase of daytime sleepiness). The standard treatment in the obstructive sleep apnea is continuous positive airway pressure, which eliminates the respiratory events, allows recovery of a satisfactory quality of sleep, and suppresses daytime sleepiness and cognitive dysfunction. The aim of this study was to verify the effects of continuous positive airway pressure on aerobic performance, as well as on hormonal and metabolic parameters during exercise, in two young adults with Down syndrome and with obstructive sleep apnea, treated or not, after an interval of 5 years. The main result observed is the beneficial effect on the ability to achieve a longer submaximal exercise with higher intensity in subject receiving the treatment. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome treatment in people with Down syndrome could improve aerobic capacity and reduce daytime sleepiness.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the frequency of selfassessed facial skin sensitivity and its different patterns, and the relationship with gender and sun sensitivity in a general adult population. Methods: A standardized 11-item questionnaire investigating reactions experienced during the past year was developed. The questions explored different patterns of skin sensitivity: pattern I (blushing related to vascular reactivity), pattern II (skin reactions to certain environmental conditions), pattern III (skin reactions after substance contact), and for women pattern IV (‘breakout of spots’related to menstrual cycle). Additional items were addressed for women and men, including sun sensitivity. The questionnaire was administered to a large middle aged population involved in the ‘Supplément en Vitamines et Minéraux Antioxydants’(***) cohort. Results: Sensitive facial skin was reported by 61%of the women (n=5074) and 32%of the men (n=3448), and the frequency decreased with age. The frequency of patterns I, II and III was greater for women (78, 72 and 58%, respectively) than for men (56, 48 and 28%) of comparable classes of age. The frequency of pattern IV was reported by 49%of premenopausal women, and skin reactions after shaving by 41%of the men. Sun sensitivity was found to be a major component of skin sensitivity. Factor analysis showed that individuals with fair phototype frequently evoked reactions associated with pattern I, and skin redness and burning sensations were related to certain environmental conditions (pattern II). Conclusion: Skin sensitivity is a common concern that declines with age and is relevant for men as well as for women.
