The common practice of managing solid waste (SW) generated by supermarkets in Mexicali, Mexico, consists of mix-ing all kinds of SW without any separation process. The concern of these actions is that does not involve some of these products to be reused or sold for recycling. The company ceases to receive an income of $ 3,881 Mexican pesos as an additional benefit by the generation of approximately 5,869 kg of SW than can be recovered in only one of its eleven branches in the city. However, the only two products that are valued by the supermarkets are wax boxes for fruits and vegetables which are sold to a company that subsequently resell them to fruit shops for reuse, and the cardboard boxes, whose weekly generation in one branch is 5,375 kg. They are separated from the waxed boxes and placed in a compactor to form bales from 300 to 400 kg each and then are collected for sale to a recycling company. As for the generation of different types of plastics that can be recycled, a branch generates weekly 339 kg. The model to simulate the generation of SW in supermarkets was performed using “system dynamics” as a tool for modeling and simulation in order to make better decisions to reduce generation of waste.

Prosthetic valve thrombosis (PVT) is a rare but serious entity. Its diagnosis and treatment can be challenging and mortality remains high regardless of its management. A 50-year-old man admitted with cardiac arrest, whose physical examination and echocardioscopy suggested PVT confirmed with fluoroscopy. Intra-aortic fibrinolysis was the treatment chosen with successful results.

In the present work, the crystallographic properties of unsupported ni-Mo catalyst serie were carried out. They were synthesized with a ratio of Mo from 10, 25, 50 to 75 wt%. The final catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) in order to identify crystallographic phases present in the solids using DRXwinsoftware version 2.3. The crystal size was determinated by Bragg’s law. ni-Mo catalyst model (MoC-75) structure was modeled by Carine Crystallography Software version 3.1 which was built based on its space group and atomic positions which were previous the results of XRD. Characteristical phases of ni-Mo Carbides were identified for their typical planes (111), (200) and (311) for ni-Mo series and the plane (101) for the a Mo-C series.

nutritional intake is a fundamental determinant of health. It is well known that cholesterol rich diets can induce several pathological conditions but detailed mechanism underlying these remains unknown. Wistar rats, an animal strain widely used in the research have been employed to study the effects of dietary interventions due to their metabolic characteristics, which are closer to the human compared to mice. The effect of some components of the western diet, combined with cholesterol in the lipid profile have been studied, but the impact of only cholesterol or fatty-acid diets in such a profile has not been yet characterized. Here we measured the effect of 6 or 16 weeks of dietary intervention with cholesterol enriched diet (CED) or fatty-acid diet (FAD) on cholesterol, triglyceride levels, high density lipoproteins (HDL) and low density lipoproteins (LDL). We observed significant differences in body weight only in animals treated with CED or FAD from Week 9 onwards as compared to animals fed the control diet. There were no differences between animals fed with CED or FAD in cholesterol levels at any time point nevertheless, triglyceride levels were significantly increased as compared to control diet in animals under both diets at early time points. Finally, both CED and FAD induced a decrease in HDL as compared to control levels in treatments of more than 6 weeks, whereas LDL transiently increased in animals treated with FAD from 10 to 12 weeks, but after this period LDL levels returned to baseline, suggesting that young rats have a compensatory effect at least for the period of time analyzed here. Here we provide a temporal course on lipid profile of cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDH in Wistar rats treated with CED and FAD diet that can be useful as reference for future studies.

Background: neo - adjuvant therapy is usually indicated in locally advanced tumors, the aim is to decrease the tumoral burden and enhance overall survival. Renal cell carcinoma is a chemo and radio resistant neoplasm and this type of approach is not as effective as in other solid tumors. On the other hand immunotherapy is indicated in metastatic disease, demonstrating a better overall survival. Sorafenib is an antiangiogenic drug approved for locally advanced or metastatic RCC. We postulated that it can be used in a neoadjuvant way to decrease the vascularization of selected tumors. Report of the case: 57 years old male referred to our service with a right renal mass and metastatic disease to lumbar spine and suprarenal gland. He was treated with three months of sorafenib previous to the surgery. Results: The patient went into surgery three months after initiating the antiangiogenic drug, during the surgery we found less neo-formance vessels;the dissection was subjectively easier, due to peri-renal edema. The pathologic analysis of the specimen was renal cell carcinoma. Interestingly, 40% of central ischemic (coagulative) necrosis was found. Conclusion: There are no neoadjuvant drugs accepted for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma;using an antiagiogenic drug to decrease the vascular burden characteristic of this type of tumors could be a viable option in selected cases. We used a lower dose of the drug with an acceptable safety profile.

Dementia is a syndrome of chronic and progressive nature, characterized by the deterioration of cognitive functions and behavior, which causes a disability and dependence on others. Alzheimer’s Disease is a type of dementia that affects cognitive functioning, behavior, and overall functionality of those who suffer from the irremediably progressive form, as it is a neurodegenerative disease. For this reason, development of a reactive interface is proposed to be inserted in a cognitive stimulation program. This program offers a series of exercises of mental functions, in order to delay or slow down the progress of this illness. The reactive interface allows access to these exercises and incorporates a user profile that predicts the possible emotions that may be experienced during the work sessions. In order to accomplish this, a cognitive structure of emotions is developed to be included in the reactive profile. This will allow enhancement of the interaction between the system and the patient. The user’s emotional state may interfere, considering within the design stage the phenomenon of altered consciousness during this degenerative process. The consciousness represents the interface of human beings with our environment. This proposal allows us to obtain information related to the user’s emotional state during the performance of specific cognitive tasks, permitting us to optimize the proposed stimulation activities.

Objective: Juvenile nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma (JnA) is a benign neoplasm with a high vascularity component, greater craniofacial involvement in adolescent patients, and aggressive local behaviour. In unresectable patients, radiotherapy is a therapeutic option for local control. Our aim in this study was to analyze the clinical benefit and local control provided by two modalities of radiotherapy: the Three-Dimensional Conformal (3DC) technique and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), applied to pediatric patients with JnA considered unresectable and non-recurrent. Methods: In retrospective study, the information was recorded from pediatric patients with a diagnosis of non-recurrent and unresectable JnA treated with radiotherapy at the Oncology Hospital of the national Medical Center SXXI of Mexico City, from March 2010 to March 2021. Radiotherapy management and its association with clinical outcomes of tumour control, and symptoms were assessed. In addition, an evaluation of acute and chronic toxicity was performed. Results: It was found that the median age was 14 years. 9 patients (37.5%) underwent 3DC and 15 (62.5%) VMAT. In terms of local control, and progression-free survival, we did not find significant difference between radiotherapy modalities (p ≤ 0.57). Acute toxicity for both modalities presented statistical differences for radio epithelitis (p = 0.03). Only Grade I and II radiation-induced acute toxicity was observed. Regarding chronic toxicity, statistical significance was observed for craniofacial hypoplasia, in relation to its absence in the VMAT group (p = 0.001). Conclusion: The VMAT presents improvements in dosimetry parameters that improve patient toxicity. In both techniques adequate tumour control was observed, however, the rarity of the disease is a limitation to establish the most appropriate therapeutic technique.
