Multi-objective optimization of wastewater treatment using electrocoagulation

This work aims to develop a model that will improve the performance and energy efficiency of a novel electrocoagulation (EC) process utilized in wastewater treatment to extrapolate the findings to an industrial scale. Utilizing Design of experiments (DOE) allows us to maximize treatment efficiency while minimizing energy consumption. This evaluation was conducted by employing aluminum electrodes as sacrificial anodes. The main factors identified in preliminary experiments are the pH of the medium, the applied potential, and the treatment time. A three-level (33) factorial design was employed to examine the relationship between efficiency performance and energy consumption. Under optimal conditions, treatment efficiency is around 66% for biological oxygen demand within 5 days (BOD5), 98% for chemical oxygen demand (COD), associated with a minimum energy consumption of 2.39 kW center dot h center dot mg-1-COD. The parameters most significantly influenced by the mathematical models obtained were the potential or applied current, treatment time, and their interaction. The modeling results were also correlated with the experimental results and there were minimal discrepancies. The Effect of Non-Contact Conditions in a Splinted Fixed Partial Denture on the Load Sharing Mechanism： A Finite Element Study

A computer-aided design model for a fixed partial denture was constructed and used in a finite element analysis to study the overall load sharing mechanism between the fixed partial denture and oral structures while the denture base rested on the al- veolar ridge. To investigate the consequences of non-contact conditions, three additional models were generated incorporating a uniform clearance of 0.125 mm, 0.25 mm, and 0.5 mm, respectively. A 100 N static load located at the free end of the prosthesis was applied while the distal portion of the jaw was set fixed. The results show that whilst releasing the ridge almost entirely, the presence of the clearance drastically increased the load on the splinting teeth. A pull-out force on the canine tooth of about 44 N was computed, accompanied by a mesio-distal moment of about 500 ***. The combination of which was similar to the tooth extraction maneuver performed by the dentist. In contrast, the second premolar was found to bear a push-in force of almost 115 N. The first molar, though barely solicited in the contact condition, became substantially loaded in non-contact conditions, which validates the choice of sacrificing three teeth to support the denture.

Magnetic properties and giant magneto-impedance effect study of Fe-based nanocry-stalline powder

The macroscopic and microscopic magnetic properties for amorphous and nanocrystalline Fe73.5Cu1Nb3-Si13.5B9 powder have been investigated and their giant mag-neto-impedance (GMI) effect is reported for the first time. The experimental results show that powder sample annealed at 510℃ possesses the optimum soft magnetic properties. However, the maximum longitudinally driven GMI (LDGMI) ratio (about 52%) is found in the sample annealed at 600℃. This means that the LDGMI ratio depends on not only their magnetic properties but also their electric properties.

Contribution of Cytology for the Diagnosis of Gallbladder Carcinoma to Avoid Misdiagnosis in This Commonly Resected Organ

The cytological study of gallbladder bile is a diagnostic tool used very often in the treatment of gallbladder cancer. The diagnosis of gall bladder cancer is done by morphological examinations such as ultrasound, computed tomography in 80% of cases, but in some difficult cases, benign lesions associated with malignant lesions, such as pseudo-tumoral cholecystitis, adenomyosis or adenoma and cancers requiring medical treatment by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, is without the possibility of surgical treatment. Cytology can help resolve a number of difficult situations, such as the presence of an intra-gallbladder lesion in the form of a polyp or nodule. Some studies have reported very interesting results from gallbladder cytology to cancer diagnosis with results up to 85% sensitivity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the contribution of the cytological study of gallbladder bile to the positive diagnosis of gallbladder cancer.

The Role of Cooking for Hospital Food Service in Cancer Care-Units: Nutrition Is a Supportive Care While Cooking Appears to Be a Prescription

Cancer cachexia and treatment-induced side effects can contribute to deterioration in nutritional status in patients declining the quality of life and survival rates. Culinary practices may provide new strategies to minimize the symptoms. NEODIA (learning to live with a cancer on a day-to-day basis) is an observational program whose objective is to better understand the occurrence of treatment-related side effects as well as culinary and dietary habits in cancer patients followed in the Cancer Unit of the Beauvais City Hospital, France. First study step in 2010 has investigated culinary solutions to improve the quality of life of the patient at home. The present part tries in particular to answer the question if the culinary advising is transposable to the offer of restoration proposed by institutions of care in oncology. We first conducted an investigation on the determinants of quality of life in patients currently treated in a hospital service involving 41 people. In a second step, we are collecting information on the food supply itself, using advising of some patient’s specially prepared to test meals as a translational research expertise. The results of our survey show that patient’s remarks constitute real guidelines to adapt the practices in culinary production and healthy catering management. Based on these results, the consistency of frozen prepared meals has been analyzed regarding their potential to regulate the under nutrition-inducing treatment-related side effects. Conducted by the patient’s panel of the translational research group the study highlights the benefits of agro-food products and margins of progress.
