The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Elder Abuse during the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Fayoum Governorate,Egypt

Background: Elder abuse has evolved into a global public health and human rights issue. COVID-19 had a significant impact on Egypt’s economic development and style of life. Aim: This research aimed to estimate the prevalence of elder abuse in the Fayoum Governorate of Egypt during the COVID-19 pandemic and assess the prevalence of different elder abuse subtypes and study the effect of different demographic characteristics on these abuse subtypes. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional, descriptive survey among 201 older adults aged 60 and above in the Fayoum Governorate. The structured questionnaire used in the study had three sections: demographic characteristics, the Hwalek- Sengstock elder abuse screening test, and the Questions to Elicit Elder Abuse screening tool. Results: This research documented that the prevalence of elder abuse was (72.6%) and the most prevalent types were emotional and neglect abuse (71.1% and 64.7%, respectively). In our study, 22.9% of older adults were exposed to a single type of abuse, 29.9% to two types, 26.9% to three types, and 10.4% to four types. Female is significantly higher than male abuse exposure (66.7% vs. 33.3%). 52.4% versus 7.1% were more likely to be abused than elderly persons who earn enough income. Conclusion: According to this study, emotional and neglect abuse were the most common types of elder abuse. Risk factors for elder abuse included being between the ages of 60 and 70 years, being a woman, residing in a rural location, being illiterate, jobless, married, earning little money, and belonging to a middle-class socioeconomic group. For the general public to better comprehend the consequences of elder abuse on their health and human rights, awareness and education must be increased.

In the present letter we discuss novel possible applications and implications of the formation of exotic atomic and molecular structures composed of particles and antiparticles. Particularly, we argue that huge amount of energy could be produced as a result of matter-antimatter cold fusion. Crucial questions raised concerning the fate of particles and antiparticles produced by the big bang are addressed. Assumptions of possible existence of two kinds of gravity and masses of different signs are proposed.

This study was carried out to predict the impact of injection timing and injection duration on engine brake power and Nitrogen Oxides emissions in a diesel engine using biofuel Soya Methyl Ester (SME). Predictions were accomplished at three different injection timings 10°, 5° Crank Angle (CA) before Top Dead Center (bTDC) and 0° CA at Top Dead Center (TDC) and four injection durations 20°, 25°, 30°, 35° CA. The study was conducted using a simulation software (Diesel-RK). Multiplicity of the chemical, biological, electrochemical and operational variables and nonlinear behavior of metal extraction in bioleaching environments complicate the mathematical modeling of these systems. This research was done to predict copper and iron recovery from a copper flotation concentrate in a stirred tank bioreactor using a fuzzy logic model. Experiments were carried out in the presence of a mixed culture of mesophilic bacteria at 35° C, and a mixed culture of moderately thermophilic bacteria at 50° C. Input variables were method of operation (bioleaching or electrobioleaching), the type of bacteria and time (day), while the recoveries of copper and iron were the outputs. A relationship was developed between stated inputs and the outputs by means of “if-then” rules. The resulting fuzzy model showed a satisfactory prediction of the copper and iron extraction and had a good correlation of experimental data with R-squared more than 0.97. The results of this study suggested that fuzzy logic provided a powerful and reliable tool for predicting the nonlinear and time variant bioleaching processes.

Objective: To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the potent anti-obesity effect of Moringa oleifera Lam.(M. oleifera) ethanolic extract and to clarify the link between these mechanisms and the associated metabolic and vascular risks in the experimental model of visceral ***: M. oleifera ethanolic extract was orally administered at 600 mg/kg body weight in obese female rats daily for 12 weeks. At the end of treatment, body weight was determined, and the atherogenic index, coronary artery index, glucose level, insulin resistance status, liver and kidney functions were assessed. Also, the m RNA of leptin, adiponectin and resistin in visceral adipose tissue was determined by quantitative real ***: The results showed that M. oleifera extract down-regulated m RNA expression of leptin and resistin, while it up-regulated adiponectin gene expression in obese rats relative to untreated obese control counterparts. This amelioration of genes expression was paralleled by a reduction in body weight and improvement of the atherogenic index and coronary artery index, as well as glucose level and insulin resistance value without adverse effects on liver or kidney functions, versus the untreated obese control ***: It is reasonable to assume that the anti-obesity, anti-atherogenic and antidiabetic properties of M. oleifera are mechanistically achieved via working directly on the adipokines of the visceral adipose tissue. Therefore, M. oleifera may be a good therapeutic candidate for the symptoms of metabolic syndrome.

In recent works, a construction was proposed resulting in emergent universes inside black holes. This result can be obtained from a 4D black hole embedded in a 5D spacetime with the fifth dimension compactified on a circle [0, 2] (0 and 2 are identified) such that the two branes are at 0 and 1. In the present work, we study this setup by deriving particles’ equations of motion in the new universes, based on redefining energy and angular momentum. This leads to disappearance of the singularity in centers of black holes in classical General Relativity.

鲤科鱼类因其产量很大是重要的养殖淡水鱼群之一,其中鲤（Cyprinus carpio.L）在该家族重要的物种中起着重要作用。在长期的驯化历史中,由于自然和遗传改良的结合,出现了许多地方良种。通过对具有重要经济价值的流行品系“黄河鲤”的选育,培育了一种名为“鑫龙”的新品系,其在8个月龄时的生长提高,达到20.84%,并且遗传分化并未因选育而丧失。全基因组相关研究（GWAS）是基于高通量数据用于单核苷酸多态性分子标记鉴定的重要手段,故基于全基因组研究的分析已经鉴定出与水生动物中重要经济性状相关的单核苷酸多态性（SNP）和功能基因。本研究的主要目的是评估新选育品系选育组和对照组之间生长差异,并从遗传学上利用GWAS来寻找与其相关的基因或分子标记。为了达到次目标,本文采用具有投入产出比较高的2b-RAD技术开展全基因组关联分析,采集了黄河鲤新品系选育组和对照组共25个家系（19个选育组和6个对照组）,每个家系10条鱼,同时采集2个生长阶段4个与生长相关的指标（体重,体长,体宽和体高）。在质量检查后,从2b-RAD产生的总共2,518,409,467个过滤的SNP中,分别发现44306个,其中33039个SNP与第一、第二阶段的生长性状相关的SNP。本文共发现7个SNPs在两个生长阶段之间重叠;其中3个位点得到注释信息,它们属于与免疫反应,压力反应和氧化代谢相关的功能类别。本研究结果可用于鲤鱼育种计划中的标记辅助选择,以及考虑这些标记作为候选生长性能标记的鑫龙鲤鱼品系的改良。此外,这些结果显示了全基因组关联研究用于确定与可用于基因组选择的重要经济性状相关的候选分子标记的有效性。鲤鱼最具针对性的经济特征之一是性别二态性,雌鱼和雄鱼相比,具有快速生长的特性。故本研究的第二个目的是通过评估雄性和雌性生长差异,进一步研究黄河鲤鱼的遗传性别决定系统,从而利用基因组分析的方法来寻找可能涉及该品系的XX/XY性别决定系统的分子标记。针对这些目标,本文基于2b-RAD测序数据,采用GWAS、雌雄对应的不同阈值水平分析以及不同测序深度3种方法来检测鑫龙鲤潜在的性别决定标记的基因或分子标记。对体重,体长,体厚和体高四个生长相关指标的评估表明,雌性鑫龙鲤鱼在生长上的表现比雄性更具有优势。基于第1种方法没有找到与性别相关的特异位点,第2种分析方法识别到3个位点,第2种方法识别21个针对雌性的候选性别特异性标记和针对雄性的27个候选性别特异性标记。经过以上3种方法综合分析发现3个标记（SD1,SD2,SD3）位于相同的基因组区域,即基因ADAM10所在区域,经Chi-square证实0.66水平上雌雄存在显著差异。为了研究该位点的遗传性能,本文通过后代亲本序列的遗传分析,发现鉴定的标记可从亲本传递给它们的后代。本研究的结果使我们强烈考虑将SD1,SD2和SD3作为性别特异性标记,可用于新龙鲤鱼品系在雄性和雌性之间的遗传分化。为了进一步推广这种针对鲤的发现,对其他品系进行分析以检测这些标记是否是鲤的性别特异性标记或仅是新龙品系的特异性标记是必不可少的。总之,从与新选育的黄河鲤鱼品系选育组和对照组的基因组数据以及与生长相关的指标联合分析揭示了 3个与其快速生长相关的位点,主要涉及到与免疫应答相关的候选基因组区域,对应激和氧化代谢的反应。同时确定了雄性和雌性之间存在着显著的生长差异,并且通过3种方法找到位于基因ADAM10L区域的3个候选位点,这将为黄河鲤新品系的分子辅助育种和基因组育种提供支持。
