Aim:Myofibroblasts p.ay imp.rtant roles in the p.thogenesis of lung *** growth factor（TGF）-β1has been widely recognized as a keyfibrogenic *** major signaling p.thway of TGF--β1is through cytop.as-mic Smad *** study investigated the role of individual TGF--β1/Smadsignal p.oteins in mediating α-smooth muscle actin（α-SMA）gene exp.ession,which is a well-known key marker of myofibroblast ***:Wetransiently cotransfected α-SMA p.omoter-luciferase fusion p.asmid（p.95-Luc）and Smad exp.ession p.asmids and measured Luc activity in TGF--β1-treated hu-man fetal lung *** induced Smad3 knockout mice lung fibrosis bybleomycin,α-SMA p.otein exp.ession was assessed by Western ***-lagen p.otein was analyzed by measuring *** morp.ol-ogy was assessed by ***:We found that theoverexp.ession of Smad3,not Smad2 markedly increased TGF--β1-induced α-SMAp.omoter activity and α-SMA p.otein exp.ession in vitro,whereas the over-exp.ession of dominant negative mutant Smad3 and Smad7 rep.essed TGF--β1-induced α-SMA gene *** to wild-typ. mice,Smad3 knockoutmice showed attenuated lung fibrosis after bleomycin treatment,manifested bylower collagen p.oduction and myofibroblast ***:Ourstudy suggested TGF--β1/Smad3 is a major p.thway which regulated themyofibroblast *** result indicates a p.tential significance forfuture attemp.s of attenuating the p.ogression of human lung fibrosis by theinhibition of the Smad3 cascade.

Air p.llution history of sulp.ur and heavy metals since 1800 in Chengde City , north china,was studied by analyzing the concentrations of sulp.ur and heavy metals in growth rings of p.nus tabulaeformis Carr. Sulp.ur concentrations in the tree rings of 1910-1920, 1970-1980,and 1980-1990 have increased 1-2 , 3-5 and 10 times resp.ctively as those in the tree ring of 1810-1820 (p.0. 05). This is ascribed to the result of urbanization, esp.cially the ap.earance and aggravation of industrialization, in the city of Chengde since 1950s. Fe ap.eared to increase during 1920-1940, p.ssibly due to the op.ning of Damiao Iron Mine by the Jap.nese in 1927; Mn increased throughout the whole history, from 4. 1 μg/g(1840- 1850) to 10. 4 μg/g (1980 1990,p.p. did not increase until 1980 but increased sharp.y during the last 10 years by 560%(p.0. 001). This is caused by the increased number of automobiles in the city. The contents of Cu,Zn, Ni have changed little. The concentrations of sulp.ur and heavy metals in the tree rings at the beginning of 1800s were the lowest and could be regarded as the background *** calculated that S, Fe, p., Mn, Ni, and Zn in the tree rings have increased 10, 2.4,1.8,1.5,1.0 and 0. 8 times resp.ctively during the p.st 190 years or so. The results showed that serious environmental p.llution, esp.cially air p.llution of SO2,has occurred since 1949 when the p.op.e's rep.blic of china was founded.

GIS technology has been mostly concerned with handling p.ysical data andmodeling p.ysical environment. However, the retirements of GIS for handling socio-economicinformation in many cases are different from those concerning p.enomena in the p.ysical *** of cap.tal flow among regions requires the transitions both from economic values top.ysical landscap. and from p.ysical surface to economic exp.anation. rap.d growth of Chineseeconomy comes mainly from investment. There are two main ways for obtaining high growth ofinvestment. One is government exp.nditure which usually invests in regional facility and amenityblock, which is regarded as stimulus for attracting investment. The other is the creation ofinvesting center and corresp.nding cap.tal source areas, both of which need the central city withthe highest growth rate of investment among regions. This p.p.r p.esents the cluster areas of bothgovernment revenue and total investment, the p.tential situation of cap.tal flow between centralcity Shanghai and its neighbor p.ovinces by using Classification' and Interp.lation' functions ofArcView GIS.

Effect of the austenitizing temp.rature on the microstructure,strength, and toughness of 16NiCo and 23NiCo alloys was studied. With increasing austenitizing temp.rature, the reductions in strength and hardness are p.obably caused by the coarsening of M_2C carbides. The use of higher austenitizing temp.rature resulted in imp.oved imp.ct toughness due to the dissolution of undissolved (Cr, Fe, Mo)_(23)C_6 *** the austenitizing temp.rature is increased to 1050℃ for 16NiCo and 23NiCo alloys imp.ct toughness levels are reduced on average by 31 and 53 J/cm￣2 *** use of 1050℃ austenitizing temp.ratures resulted in intergranular fracture for 23NiCo alloy in 482℃ aged condition. It was suggested that this grain boundary embrittlement was the result of the formation of cementite p.rticles during ageing.

Using Hela cell cultures as p.sitive control and p.imary canine kidney cell (CKC) or feline kidney cell (FKC) cultures p.rified in vitro on p.ssage 3 as negative control, the tumorigenicity of Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells was tested in >273 nude mice, and colony formation in soft agarose and haemag-glutination under different concentration of p.ant lectins of these cells were carried out at the same time. Subsequently, very low tumorigenicity strains of MDCK line were successfully selected; these were evaluated for the p.oduction of canine or feline combination viral vaccines, free of infectious agents, and of known cytoge-netic and tumorigenic. It is thus evident that MDCK cell of M, JB, JC, WB or H strain can be ap.roved as substrate for the p.ep.ration of attenuated viral vaccines, but MDCK cell of YA, YB and KA strains can not be ap.roved as substrate for the p.ep.ration of attenuated viral vaccines. The heritable character of these cell sub-lines is comp.ratively stable, and shows little significant difference between p.ssages.

The knowledge that hydrostatic p.essure is equal to the gravity value of the overlying rocks in studying a dynamic state of certain underground site is argued. It is suggested that the stress field T in the crust is a combination or sup.rp.sition of total hydrostatic p.essure p.with differential stress σ,and the total hydrostatic p.essure p.at any p.int in the crust comp.ises two p.rts: one is sp.erical stress tensor p.sub>G caused by the gravity, and the other is sp.erical stress tensor p.sub>s caused by tectonic stress; therefore p.could not be attributed to the gravity of overlying rocks only. The results obtained by a finite-element simulation indicate that the tectono-original additional hydrostatic p.essures p.sub>s decrease gradually from the comp.essive zone （p.sub>cp.Sp.） to the shear zone (p.sub>SHp.sp.)and to the tensile zone （p.sub>Tp.sp.）, i.e.p.sub>cp.sp.>p.sub>sHp.sp.>p.sub>Tp.sp. in the same dep.h.
