It is important to translate dosage of each medical herb in a prescription into intensity of its effects measured by mathematical models. In this paper, we present intelligent calculational algorithms on efficacies of prescriptions of chinese medicine (CM), study "how curative effects of any herb depend on dosage" when constructing CM intelligent systems, and discuss relevant issues and definitions. In order to measure intensities of effects of all herbs reasonably, the natural classification method is proposed to classify herbs into 38 natural classes according to their dosage ranges using the knowledge of CM dosage and distribution rules of herbs. Then the 38 natural classes are clustered to 6 basic classes reflecting characteristic attributes of various herbs. Based on the results of classified herbs, a set of nonlinear measuring functions of intensities of effects is designed for various basic classes. These functions have been embedded in our intelligent calculation system of efficacies of prescriptions. The effects of 560 herbs and curative efficacies of more than 1000 prescriptions derived from "ShangHan Lun", "JinGui YaoLue", "Ming Jia Yi An", etc., have been calculated and discovered successfully. It is proved that the accuracy of theses results by these models has been obviously enhanced.

Preliminary basic research and clinical findings have demonstrated that electroacupuncture ther- apy exhibits positive effects in ameliorating depression. However, most studies of the underlying mechanism are at the single gene level; there are few reports regarding the mechanism at the whole-genome level. Using a rat genomic gene-chip, we profiled hippocampal gene expression changes in rats after electroacupuncture therapy. Electroacupuncture therapy alleviated depres- sion-related manifestations in the model rats. Using gene-chip analysis, we demonstrated that electroacupuncture at Baihui （DU20） and Yintang （EX-HN3） regulates the expression of 21 genes. Real-time PCR showed that the genes Vgf, lgf2, Trnp32, Loc500373, Hifla, Folrl, Nrnb, and Rtn were upregulated or downregulated in depression and that their expression tended to nor- malize after electroacupuncture therapy. These results indicate that electroacupuncture at Baihui and Yintang modulates depression by regulating the expression of particular genes.

Satellite images are used extensively in studying the urban heat island(UHI) *** evaluated the suitability of thermal infrared(TIR) data from the HJ-1B satellite for detecting UHI using a case study in *** modified algorithms for retrieving the land surface temperature(LST) from HJ-1B data were *** results were compared with LST images derived from a Landsat TM thermal band and the MODIS LST *** spatial pattern of UHI generated using HJ-1B data matched well with that produced using TM and MODIS *** the two algorithms,the mono-window algorithm performed better but further tests are *** more frequent coverage than TM and higher spatial resolution than MODIS,the HJ-1B TIR data present a unique opportunity to study thermal environments in cities in China and neighboring countries.

A quasi-secure quantum dialogue protocol using single photons was proposed. Different from the previous entanglement-based protocols, the present protocol uses batches of single photons which run back and forth between the two parties. A round run for each photon makes the two parties each obtain a classical bit of information. So the efficiency of information transmission can be increased. The present scheme is practical and well within the present-day technology.

This paper summarizes the results of our study of the pinewood nematode(Bursaphelenchus xylophi-lus).By population genetic analysis,it was determined that there was no genetic bottle caused by the founder effect and genetic drift in the chinese invasive *** invasions with large amounts of nematodes from different sources led to rich genetic diversity in the invasive *** high genetic diversity in the invasive process may be one of the genetic mechanisms in its successful *** testing interspecies competition,it was shown that,with high fecundity and a strong competitive ability,*** outcompeted the native species *** in the natural ecosystem during the invasion *** displacement may be one of the ecological mechanisms of ***'s *** addition,an unequal interspecific hybridization with intro-gress was in favor of the invasive species which also accelerated the replacement of *** by *** structures,functions and evolutions of a few important genes that are closely related to the ecological adaptation of pinewood nematodes were studied to explore the molecular mechanism of its ecological ***,the resistance and resilience mechanism of the pine ecosystem invaded by pinewood nematodes was also *** results of these studies uncovered a portion of the genetic and ecological mechanisms of PWN's successful invasion and laid a foundation for further study to obtain a comprehensive interpretation of the mechanisms of the nematode *** results also provided a scientific basis for effectively controlling the occurrence and spread of pine wilt disease which is caused by *** aspects requiring further investigation are considered.
