Nanoplasctics(NPs),which are very small in particle size,exert toxic effect to organisms.Additionally,compared to original NPs,photodegraded NPs would pose higher toxicity.This is because their relatively higher specific surface areas and the presence of additives which can more easily leach.How original NPs and aged NPs affect plant growth has not been widely investigated.This work chose polyvinyl chloride NPs(PVC-NPs)that were subjected to up to 1000 h UV light radiation to explore the impact of PVC-NPs on the growth of pea seedlings(Pisum Sativum L.).The results indicated the existence of PVC-NPs with longer UV light radiation time and higher concentrations had more negative influences on pea seedlings’growth such as germination rate(decreased by 10.6%–22.5%),stem length(decreased by 2.8%–8.1%),dry weight(decreased by 6.3%–7.1%)and fresh weight(decreased by 6.7%–14.8%).It was also noted that photodegraded PVC-NPs resulted in damage to leaf stomata and roots,hindering photosynthesis and absorption of nutrients and hence the decrease in chlorophyll and soluble sugar contents.According to transcriptomic investigation results,the presence of aged PVC-NPs primarily influenced protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum(upregulated metabolic pathway)and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis(downregulated metabolic pathway)of pea seedlings.These results provide an in-depth understanding of how NPs influence the growth of plants.

Ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides(RiPPs)are a class of cyclic or linear peptidic natural products with remarkable structural and functional diversity.Recent advances in genomics and synthetic biology,are facilitating us to discover a large number of new ribosomal natural products,including lanthipeptides,lasso peptides,sactipeptides,thiopeptides,microviridins,cyanobactins,linear thiazole/oxazole-containing peptides and so on.In this review,we summarize bioinformatic strategies that have been developed to identify and prioritize biosynthetic gene clusters(BGCs)encoding RiPPs,and the genome mining-guided discovery of novel RiPPs.We also prospectively provide a vision of what genomics-guided discovery of RiPPs may look like in the future,especially the discovery of RiPPs from dominant but uncultivated microbes,which will be promoted by the combinational use of synthetic biology and metagenome mining strategies.

The difficulty in achieving high removal efficiency for contaminants in textile wastewater over a wide range of p H impedes the progress of its treatment technique greatly.herein,a facile and sustainable strategy was adopted for constructing magnetic ordered mesoporous polymers(M-OMPs)without the assistance of organic solvent and catalyst.The prepared M-OMPs were endowed with high special surface area and good superparamagnetism simultaneously,and exhibited high removal efficiency(>99%)for Methylene Blue(MB)within a short time(10 min)at a concentration of 50 mg/L.What’s more,high removal efficiency was achieved over a wide range of p H 2-12 and the adsorption capacity for MB on M-OMPs was substantially retained even after 5 adsorption-desorption cycles,further demonstrating the application potential of M-OMPs in the decontamination of textile wastewater.

A high-sensitivity temperature sensor based on the harmonic Vernier effect is proposed and verified by experiments.The main component of the sensor is a Sagnac interferometer consisting of two sections of polarization maintaining fibers(PMFs)spliced with an intersection angle of 45o between their fast axes.The harmonic Vernier effect is achieved by setting the length of one of the PMFs an integral multiple(i-times)of the length of the other plus a detuning factor.Compared with the Sagnac interferometer based on the fundamental Vernier effect,the temperature sensitivity of the harmonic Vernier effect is higher,reaching i+1 times of that of the fundamental Vernier effect(i is the order of the harmonic).

Silica aerogel was prepared by a sol-gel method with combination of freeze drying.The aerogel was filled with TiCl4 in autoclave and used to fabricate a hierarchical structure of TiO_(2) nanofiber shell and SiO_(2) aerogel core(SiO_(2)@TiO_(2)).The TiO_(2) nanofibers with a diameter of 10-15 nm were highly crystalline and mainly grew along the(101)or(001)planes,favoring charge migration along the growth axis of the fibers.The photoluminescence(PL)emission spectra show that the TiO_(2) nanofibers exhibited much lower PL intensity than P25.The free standing TiO2 nanofibers loaded with CuO had a band gap of 3.04 eV.When CuO was hierarchically loaded on the nanofiber surface and into the aerogel core(SiO_(2)/CuO@TiO_(2)/CuO),the absorption edge significantly red shifted,and the band gap was further narrowed to 2.66 eV.Meanwhile,Fe^(3+)implanted TiO_(2) nanofibers on the aerogel surface(SiO_(2)@Fe-TiO_(2))were also fabricated in the same strategy.The CuO loaded nanofibers(SiO_(2)/CuO@Fe-TiO_(2)/CuO)had a band gap of 2.62 eV.The photocatalytic reduction of CO_(2) was performed under light irradiation by a 300 W Xe-lamp for 4 h.The methanol yield over the SiO_(2)/CuO@Fe-TiO_(2)/CuO reached~2,400 μmol·gcat^(-1) in the absence of sacrificial agent.

Rational coupling of hydrogen evolution reaction(heR) and oxygen evolution reaction(OER) catalysts is extremely important for practical overall water splitting,but it is still challenging to construct such bifunctional heterostructures.herein,we present a metal-organic framework(MOF)-etching strategy to design free-standing and hierarchical hollow CoS_(2)-MoS_(2) heteronanosheet arrays for both heR and OER.Resulting from the controllable etching of MOF by MoO_(4)^(2-) and in-situ sulfuration,the obtained CoS_(2)-MoS_(2) possesses abundant heterointerfaces with modulated local charge distribution,which promote water dissociation and rapid electrocatalytic kinetics.Moreover,the two-dimensional hollow array architecture can not only afford rich surface-active sites,but also facilitate the penetration of electrolytes and the release of evolved H_(2)/O_(2) bubbles.Consequently,the engineered CoS_(2)-MoS_(2) heterostructure exhibits small overpotentials of 82 mV for heR and 266 mV for OER at 10 mA cm^(-2).The corresponding alkaline electrolyzer affords a cell voltage of 1.56 V at 10 mA cm^(-2) to boost overall water splitting,along with robust durability over 24 h, even surpassing the benchmark electrode couple composed of IrO_(2) and Pt/C The present work may provide valuable insights for developing MOF-derived heterogeneous electrocatalysts with tailored interface/surface structure for widespread application in catalysis and other energyrelated areas.

Background:hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide.The development of biomarkers for early detection and monitoring of HCC has not shown significant prog-ress.Meanwhile,the second adenomatous polyposis-related gene,MUTYH,which encodes a DNA gly-cosylase,has been observed in its contribution to oxidative DNA damage repair.Abnormal expression of MUTYH can reduce cell survival rate.Therefore,this study investigated the usefulness of MUTYH in diagnosing and prognosis HCC.Materials and methods:Using The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)data,we analyzed the prognostic value of MUTYH in HCC.We used logistic regression,Wilcoxon signed-rank test,and KruskaleWallis test to examine MUTYH expression concerning clinical-pathologic characteristics.Univariate and multivariate Cox regression methods and Kaplan-Meier analysis were applied to determine the related prognostic factors of HCC.The enrichment analysis(GSEA)was used to determine the critical pathways associated with MUTYH.The single-sample gene set enrichment analysis(ssGSEA)was conducted to examine the correlation between MUTYH expression and cancer immune infiltration.Results:The higher expression of MUTYH in HCC patients was associated with a poorer overall survival rate and a shorter disease-specific survival rate.The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)analysis showed that all differentially expressed genes(DEGs)between the high and low expression levels of MUTYH significantly enriched in the trace ligand-receptor interaction,cell cycle,oocyte meiosis,gap junction,and DNA replication.Group analysis revealed the signals of their open access.The neuron system,M phase,DNA repair,Rho GTPase effector,and cell cycle checkpoints were significantly enriched.ssGSEA showed a positive correlation between MUTYH expression and the infiltration levels of Th2 cells,NK cells,and T helper cells.Moreover,a negative correlation was found between MUTYH expression and the infiltration levels of dendritic cells(DCs)and cytotoxic cells.Conclusio

Ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))and nitrate(NO_(3)^(-))are major inorganic nitrogen(N)sources for plants.When serving as the sole or dominant N supply,NH_(4)^(+)often causes root inhibition and shoot chlorosis in plants,known as ammonium toxicity.NO_(3)^(-) usually causes no toxicity and can mitigate ammonium toxicity even at low concentrations,referred to as nitrate-dependent alleviation of ammonium toxicity.Our previous studies indicated a NO_(3)^(-) efflux channel SLAH3 is involved in this process.However,whether additional components contribute to NO_(3)^(-)-mediated NH_(4)^(+)detoxification is unknown.Previously,mutations in NO_(3)^(-) transporter NRT1.1 were shown to cause enhanced resistance to high concentrations of NH_(4)^(+).Whereas,in this study,we found when the high-NH_(4)^(+) medium was supplemented with low concentrations of NO_(3)^(-),nrt1.1 mutant plants showed hyper-sensitive phenotype instead.Furthermore,mutation in NRT1.1 caused enhanced medium acidification under high-NH_(4)^(+)/Iow-NO_(3)^(-) condition,suggesting NRT1.1 regulates ammonium toxicity by facilitating H+uptake.Moreover,NRT1.1 was shown to interact with SLAH3 to form a transporter-channel complex.Interestingly,SLAH3 appeared to affect NO_(3)^(-) influx while NRT1.1 influenced NO_(3)^(-) efflux,suggesting NRT1.1 and SLAH3 regulate each other at protein and/or gene expression levels.Our study thus revealed NRT1.1 and SLAH3 form a functional unit to regulate nitrate-dependent alleviation of ammonium toxicity through regulating NO_(3)^(-) transport and balancing rhizosphere acidification.

Spatial Pattern and Development of Protected Areas in the North-south Transitional Zone of China

The north-south transitional zone in China mainly consists of the Qinling-Daba Mountains. It is the most important West-East geo-ecological space in China, containing protected areas vital for biodiversity conservation and ecological security of China. The protection and rational development of its natural habitat is of great significance to China’s ecological security and integration of protected areas based on mountain forest ecosystems on a global scale. In this study, five important types of protected areas in the transitional zone were selected, and their spatial patterns were analysed. Spatial analysis methods, such as kernel density estimation and accessibility analysis, were employed for both point and areal data, and focused on four aspects: land use scale, shift in the centre of gravity, spatial agglomeration, and accessibility. In addition, policy background and evolution of spatial and temporal characteristics of the protected area system in the transitional zone from 1963 to 2017 were also examined. We analysed the characteristics and geographical significance of the West-east corridor using the spatial pattern of the protected area system from the perspective of ecological and economic spaces. We focused on spatial shape, type intersection, and key areas to analyse the spatial overlap of the protected areas. Protected area establishment was divided into three stages: initial(1956–1980), rapid development(1981–2013), and national park transformation(2014–present). These stages reflected the change in the concept of ‘simple protection—sustainable use—integration and upgrade’ for protected areas of China. The spatial centre of gravity of the protection zone system was located in the west Qinling-Daba Mountains, and its high-density core exhibited a relatively stable N-shaped structure composed of four gathering areas.
