Effects of Low-dose and High-dose Rifaximin in the Treatment of Covert Hepatic Encephalopathy

Background and Aims:Rifaximin is effective in prevent-ing and treating hepatic encephalopathy(HE).This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of different dosages of rifaximin in the treatment of cirrhotic patients with covert HE(CHE).Methods:In this single-center,ran-domized,controlled,open-label study,CHE was diagnosed using a combination of the psychometric HE score and the EncephalApp Stroop *** patients with CHE were recruited and randomly assigned to low-dose rifaximin 800 mg/day,high-dose rifaximin(1,200 mg/day),and control groups,and were treated for 8 *** sickness impact profile(SIP)scale was used to evaluate the health-relat-ed quality of life(HRQOL)of *** patients were included in the study,12 were assigned to the low-dose group,14 to the high-dose group,and 14 patients to the control ***:The percentage of patients with CHE reversal was significantly higher in both the low-dose(41.67%,5/12)and high-dose(57.14%,8/14)groups than in the control group(7.14%,1/14)at 8 weeks(p=0.037 and p=0.005,respectively).In addition,both doses of ri-faximin resulted in significant improvement of the total SIP score compared with the control *** were no sig-nificant differences in the CHE reversal rate,total SIP score improvement,and incidence of adverse event between the low-dose and high-dose groups(p>0.05).Conclusions:Low-dose rifaximin reverses CHE and improves HRQOL in cirrhotic patients with comparable effects and safety to high-dose rifaximin.

The clathrate hydrate memory effect is a fascinating phenomenon with potential applications in carbon capture,utilization and storage(CCUS),gas separation,and gas storage as it can accelerate the secondary formation of clathrate ***,the underlying mechanism of this effect remains *** gain a better understanding of the mechanism,we conducted molecular dynamic simulations to simulate the initial formation and reformation processes of methane *** this work,we showed the evolution process of hydrate residual structures into hydrate *** simulation results indicate that the residual structures are closely related to the existence of hydrate memory effect,and the higher the contribution of hydrate dissociated water to the hydrate nucleation process,the faster the hydrate *** hydrate dissociation,the locally ordered structures still exist after hydrate dissociation and can promote the formation of cluster structures,thus accelerating hydrate ***,the nucleation process of hydrate and the formation process of clusters are *** size of clusters composed of cup-cage structures is critical for hydrate *** residence time at high temperature after hydrate decomposition will affect the strength of the hydrate memory *** simulation results provide microscopic insights into the occurrence of the hydrate memory effect and shed light on the hydrate reformation process at the molecular scale.

Weight Analysis of Impact Factors of Interbedded Anti-Inclined Slopes Block-Flexure Toppling Based on Support Vector Regression

Block-flexure toppling failure is frequently encountered in interbedded anti-inclined rock(IAR)slopes,and seriously threatens the construction of hydropower *** this study,we first investigated the Lean Reservoir area’s geological setting and the Linda landslide’s ***,uniform design and random design were used to design 110 training datasets and 31 testing datasets,***,the toppling response was obtained by using the discrete element ***,support vector regression was used to obtain the influence weights of 21 impact *** results show that the influence weight of the slope angle and rock formation dip angle on the toppling deformation among tertiary impact factors is 25.96%and 17.28%,respectively,which are much greater than the other 19 impact factors within the research *** the primary impact factors,the influence weight is sorted from large to small as slope geometry parameters,joints parameters,and rock mechanics *** parameters,especially the geometric parameters,cannot be ignored when evaluating the stability of IAR *** numerical simulation,it was qualitatively determined that failure surfaces of slopes were controlled by cross joints and that the rocks in the slope toe play a role in preventing slope deformation.

Study on the flow structure in curved open channels with suspended vegetation using multi relaxation time lattice Boltzmann method

Suspended vegetation in rivers,lakes,reservoirs and canals can change flow structure,which will in turn affect the sediment transport and cause the variation of water ecological *** order to study the characteristics of bend flow through suspended vegetation,three-dimensional numerical simulations are carried out by using the multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann method(MRT-LBM).The drag force induced by vegetation is added in the velocity correction in the equilibrium distribution and a hybrid format combined bounce and specular reflection scheme is applied in the solid-fluid *** the validation of this model,six cases are designed to conduct the numerical simulations according to the root depth and the arrangement of *** simulated results show that the suspended vegetation can redistribute the flow structure in curved open *** the arrangement of suspended vegetation,the main flow moves to the side without vegetation,and the distribution of velocity tends to be balanced when vegetation is arranged on the entire cross section,the range of circulating current is reduced from the whole cross section to the local position without vegetation,however,the circulating current can still exist in the curve where the suspended vegetation enters less than half of the water *** addition,it can also be concluded that the suspended vegetation can affect the lateral gradient of flow velocity,and the bed shear stress in the curved channel.

Several autonomous navigation methods have been studied to reduce reliance on the ground stations. Geomagnetic navigation, gravity gradient navigation, and celestial navigation using optical sensors are typical autonomous navigation methods. Geomagnetic and gravity gradient navigation have low navigation accuracy (1301 m [1] and 235 m [2], respectively) due to the poor accuracy of the geomagnetic and gravity gradient maps.

Probing the interaction between asphaltene-wax and its effects on the crystallization behavior of waxes in heavy oil via molecular dynamics simulation

High content of asphaltenes and waxes leads to the high pour point and the poor flowability of heavy oil,which is adverse to its efficient development and its transportation in *** the interaction mechanism between asphaltene-wax is crucial to solve these problems,but it is still *** this paper,molecular dynamics simulation was used to investigate the interaction between asphaltenewax and its effects on the crystallization behavior of waxes in heavy *** show that molecules in pure wax are arranged in a paralleled *** wax molecules in heavy oil,which are close to the surface of asphaltene aggregates,are bent and arranged *** the mass fraction of asphaltenes in asphaltene-wax system(ωasp) is 0-25 wt%,the attraction among wax molecules decreases and the bend degree of wax molecules increases with the increase of ω*** ωaspincreases from 0 to 25 wt%,and the attraction between asphaltene-wax is stronger than that among *** causes that the wax precipitation point changes from 353 to 333 *** the ωaspincreases to 50 wt%,wax molecules are more dispersed owing to the steric hindrance of asphaltene aggregates,and the interaction among wax molecules transforms from attraction to *** causes that the ordered crystal structure of waxes can't be formed at normal ***,the asphaltene,with the higher molecular weight or the more hetero atoms,has more obvious inhibition to the formation of wax ***,resins also have an obvious inhibition on the wax crystal due to the formation of asphalteneresin aggregates with a larger *** results reveal the interaction mechanism between asphaltene-wax,and provide useful guidelines for the development of heavy oil.

A Methodology for Assessing Axial Compressor Stability with Inlet Temperature Ramp Distortion

Based on a small perturbation stability model for periodic flow,the effects of inlet total temperature ramp distortion on the axial compressor are investigated and the compressor stability is quantitatively *** the beginning,a small perturbation stability model for the periodic flow in compressors is proposed,referring to the governing equations of the Harmonic Balance *** stability model is validated on a single-stage low-speed compressor TA36 with uniform inlet ***,the unsteady flow of TA36 with different inlet total temperature ramps and constant back pressure is simulated based on the Harmonic Balance *** on these simulations,the compressor stability is analyzed using the proposed small perturbation ***,the Dynamic Mode Decomposition method is employed to accurately extract pressure *** two parameters of the temperature ramp,ramp rate and Strouhal number,are discussed in this *** results indicate the occurrence and extension of hysteresis loops in the rows,and a decrease in compressor stability with increasing ramp *** performance is divided into two phases,stable and limit,based on the ramp ***,the model predictions suggest that a decrease in period length and an increase in Strouhal number lead to improved compressor *** DMD results imply that for compressors with inlet temperature ramp distortion,the increase of high-order modes and oscillations at the rotor tip is always the signal of decreasing stability.

Kink oscillations,which are frequently observed in coronal loops and prominences,are often accompanied by extreme-ultraviolet(EUV)***,much more needs to be explored regarding the causal relationships between kink oscillations and EUV *** this article,we report the simultaneous detection of kink oscillations and EUV waves that are both associated with an X2.1 flare on 2023 March 03(SOL2023-03-03T17:39).The kink oscillations,which are almost perpendicular to the axes of loop-like structures,are observed in three coronal loops and one *** short loop shows in-phase oscillation within the same period of 5.2 min at three *** oscillation could be triggered by the pushing of an expanding loop and interpreted as the standing kink *** lags are found between the kink oscillations of the short loop and two long loops,suggesting that the kink wave travels in different *** kink oscillations of one long loop and the prominence are possibly driven by the disturbance of the coronal mass ejection(CME),and that of another long loop might be attributed to the interaction of the EUV *** onset time of the kink oscillation of the short loop is nearly same as the beginning of an EUV *** fact demonstrates that they are almost *** EUV wave is most likely excited by the expanding loop structure and shows two *** leading component is a fast coronal wave,and the trailing one could be due to the stretching magnetic field lines.

High efficiency removal of NO using waste calcium carbide slag by facile KOH modification

Waste calcium carbide slags(CS),which are widely applied to desulfurisation,are not typically used in ***,to well achieve waste control by waste,a facile and highefficiency denitration strategy is developed using KOH to modify the calcium carbide slags(KCS).Various KCS samples were investigated using a series of physical and chemical *** performance test results showed that the KOH concentration and reaction temperature are the main factors affecting the denitration efficiency of KCS,and CS modified with 1.5 mol/L KOH(KCS-1.5)can achieve 100% denitration efficiency at 300℃.Such excellent removal efficiency is due to the catalytic oxidation of the oxygen-containing functional groups derived from the *** studies showed that KOH treatment significantly increased the concentration of oxygen vacancies,nitro compounds,and basic sites of *** study provides a novel strategy for the resource utilisation of waste CS in the future.
