Structural Thermal Stability of Graphene Oxide-Doped Copper–Cobalt Oxide Coatings as a Solar Selective Surface

3d transition metal oxides based thin film coatings such as copper–cobalt oxides exhibit high absorption in the visible region and low emittance in the infrared to far-infrared region of the solar spectrum which is favourable for use as potential selective surface materials in photothermal devices. These materials have the potential to minimize heating while increasing absorption in the operative spectrum range and therefore achieve higher solar selectivity. A series of mixed copper–cobalt metal spinel oxides（Cu_xCo_yO_z）doped with graphene oxide thin films were deposited on commercial grade aluminium substrates using a sol-gel dip-coating technique at an annealing temperature of 500 °C in air for 1 h. Characterizations of the synthesized films were carried out by high temperature synchrotron radiation X-ray Diffraction（SRXRD）, UV–Vis, Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR） and X-ray photoelectron microscopy（XPS）techniques. High thermal stability of coatings with multiple phases, binary and ternary metal oxides, was defined through SR-XRD study. FTIR analysis shows moderate（〈80%） to high（up to 99%） reflectance in the infrared region while the UV–Vis investigations demonstrate that, in the visible region, solar absorption increases gradually（up to 95%） with the addition of graphene oxide to the Cu_x Co_y O_z *** the incorporation of 1.5 wt.% of graphene oxide to the copper–cobalt oxide coatings, a high solar selectivity of 29.01（the ratio of the average solar absorptance in visible and the average thermal emittance in infrared to far infrared region; α/ε） was achieved.

Background:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is associated with impaired renal function,and both diseases often occur alongside other metabolic ***,the prevalence and risk factors for impaired renal function in patients with NAFLD remain *** objective of this study was to identify the prevalence and risk factors for renal impairment in NAFLD ***:All adults aged 18-70 years with ultrasound-diagnosed NAFLD and transient elastography examination from eight Asian centers were enrolled in this prospective *** fibrosis and cirrhosis were assessed by FibroScan-aspartate aminotransferase(FAST),Agile 3+and Agile 4 *** renal function and chronic kidney disease(CKD)were defined by an estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)with value ofmin/1.73 m^(2) andmin/1.73 m^(2),respectively,as estimated by the CKD-Epidemiology Collaboration(CKD-EPI)***:Among 529 included NAFLD patients,the prevalence rates of impaired renal function and CKD were 37.4%and 4.9%,*** multivariate analysis,a moderate-high risk of advanced liver fibrosis and cirrhosis according to Agile 3+and Agile 4 scores were independent risk factors for CKD(P<0.05).Furthermore,increased fasting plasma glucose(FPG)and blood pressure were significantly associated with impaired renal function after controlling for the other components of metabolic syndrome(P<0.05).Compared with patients with normoglycemia,those with prediabetes[FPG≥5.6 mmol/L or hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)≥5.7%]were more likely to have impaired renal function(P<0.05).Conclusions:Agile 3+and Agile 4 are reliable for identifying NAFLD patients with high risk of *** glycemic control in the prediabetic stage might have a potential renoprotective role in these patients.

Validation of Non-invasive Fibrosis Scores for Predicting Advanced Fibrosis in Metabolic-associated Fatty Liver Disease

针对考虑工厂适用性和附加资源的分布式两阶段混合流水车间调度问题(DTHFSP),本文提出了一种反馈人工蜂群算法(FABC),以最小化最大完成时间和总延迟时间,该算法利用一种新型反馈机制动态调整搜索策略集.为此,本文共设计了5种特点各异的搜索策略,将其用于初始策略集和备选策略集,同时,建立并调整雇佣蜂群和跟随蜂群的共享策略集,雇佣蜂阶段和跟随蜂阶段在种群划分的基础上采用随机选择和自适应选择方式确定搜索策略,在侦查蜂阶段完成后,对搜索策略集进行动态调整.文章进行了大量的计算实验,计算结果表明,FABC策略合理有效,且它对所求解的DTHFSP具有较强的搜索优势.

Bolstering functionality in multilayer and bilayer WS2 via focused laser micro-engraving

Laser thinning of multilayer transition metal dichalcogenide(TMD)crystals has long been explored for its potential to produce localized domains of optically functional monolayers. Despite the high spatial control and resolution of the laser, the range of appropriate applications for these laser-thinned domains is still limited by the peripheral regions of unaltered thick multilayers. Herein, we report a newfound property of the laser-thinned regions to adhere strongly to the underlying substrate when lasered down to the monolayer limit. Upon a brief sonication in various solvents, the surrounding pristine multilayers can be lifted off, solely leaving behind the post-lasered monolayer patterns. Coupled with the flexible maneuver of the laser, various monolayer designs can be achieved, including micro-antenna, waveguide, and electrode geometries with lateral line widths at 1.5 μm resolution. Furthermore, we also detail the optical properties of the monolayers obtained from laser thinning, with those acquired from multilayers containing more defectbound excitons, whereas those lasered from bilayers presenting a trion-dominated profile similar to as-grown monolayers. Together, these findings allow for faster and more efficient multilayer removal and areal shaping of optically active monolayer domains, in comparison to multistep and complex standard lithographic etching(lithography–etch–develop)procedures.

1) Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is defined as a degenerative joint disease that mainly affects the bone. This study aims to evaluate the effect of low-intensity continuous ultrasound (LICUS) treatment on the knee of osteoarthritis patients through home-based intervention using the LICUS medical device. 2) Methods: The clinical trials were designed in a single-arm, open-label, and intervention study. Thirty-five participants, including those who dropped out (12%), were screened and enrolled. The patients received LICUS (1.1 MHz, 1.5 W/cm2, collimated beams) on the knee by the instructions of the investigator at home (5 min/session, 3 times/day, for four-weeks). Outcome measures were assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) as a primary endpoint and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) as a secondary endpoint to evaluate pain relief and functional recovery of the knee between pre-treatment (baseline) and post-treatment (four-weeks). 3) Results: Knee pain scores measured using the VAS and WOMAC indices were significantly reduced after a four-week treatment with LICUS compared to baseline. Knee stiffness and functional capacity were significantly reduced after the LICUS application. In addition, there were no reports of adverse effects during the study period. 4) Conclusion: Long-term and home-based application of LICUS can be recommended as an alternative option for the treatment of OA patients, as evidenced by the effect of pain relief and knee function recovery.

Rhabdomyosarcoma （RMS） is a malignant tumor which involves the striated muscle, and it is most common in the pediatric age group. Usually, children with RMS present with persistent ear discharge, aural polyp and hearing loss which are similar to the symptoms seen in chronic otitis media （COM）. This similarity with COM often delays the diagnosis. The histological diagnosis of RMS is always a challenge because there are many other conditions which exhibit similar characteristic features such as an aural polyp. We discussed an unusual case of RMS in a 1 5-month-old girl who presented with acute otitis media （AOM） and mastoid abscess. The biopsy of the aural polyp confirmed the diagnosis.

Considerations for bariatric surgery in patients with cirrhosis

With the ever increasing global obesity pandemic, clinical burden from obesity related complications are anticipated in parallel. Bariatric surgery, a treatment approved for weight loss in morbidly obese patients, has reported to be associated with good outcomes, such as reversal of type two diabetes mellitus and reducing all-cause mortality on a long term basis. However, complications from bariatric surgery have similarly been reported. In particular, with the onslaught of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) epidemic, in associated with obesity and metabolic syndrome, there is increasing prevalence of NAFLD related liver cirrhosis, which potentially connotes more risk of specific complications for surgery. Bariatric surgeons may encounter, either expectedly or unexpectedly, patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) and NASH related cirrhosis more frequently. As such, the issues and considerations surrounding their medical care/surgery warrant careful deliberation to ensure the best outcomes. These considerations include severity of cirrhosis, liver synthetic function, portal hypertension and the impact of surgical factors. This review explores these considerations comprehensively and emphasizes the best approach to managing cirrhotic patients in the context of bariatric surgery.

Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer outperforms Hong Kong Liver Cancer staging of hepatocellular carcinoma in multiethnic Asians: Real-world perspective

AIM To compare the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) and Hong Kong Liver Cancer(HKLC) classification systems when applied to HCC patients from the largest tertiary-level centre in *** One thousand two hundred and seventy hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) patients prospectively enrolled in a tertiary-level centre registry in Singapore since 1988 were studied. Patients were grouped into their respective BCLC and HKLC stages. Data such as demography, aetiology of HCC and type of treatment were collected. Survival data was based on census with the National Registry of Births and Deaths on 31 st October 2015. Statistical analyses were done using SPSS version 21(Chicago, IL, United States). Survival analyses were done by the Kaplan-Meier method. Differences in survival rates were compared using the log-rank *** The median age at presentation was 63 years(range 13-94); male 82.4%; Chinese 89.4%, Malay 7.1%, Indian, 2.8%. Hepatitis B was the predominant aetiology(75.0%; Hepatitis C 7.2%, Hepatitis B and C co-infection 3.8%, non-viral 14.0%). Both BCLC and HKLC staging systems showed good separation with overall log rank test confirming significant survival differences between stages in our cohort(P < 0.001). 206 out of the 240 patients(85.8%) assigned for curative treatment by the BCLC treatment algorithm received curative therapy for HCC [Stage 0 93.2%(68/73); Stage A 82.6%(138/167)]. In contrast, only 341/558(61.1%) patients received curative treatment despite being assigned for curative treatment by the HKLC treatment algorithm [Stage Ⅰ 72.7%(264/363); Stage Ⅱ 40.2%(66/164); Stage Va 35.5%(11/31)]. Patients who were assigned to curative treatment by HKLC but did not receive curative treatment had significantly poorer ECOG(P < 0.001), higher ChildPugh status(P < 0.001) and were older(median age 66 vs 61, P < 0.001) than those who received curative therapy.
