Activation of 2D Mos_(2) electrodes induced by high-rate lithiation processes

Mos_(2) is a highly promising material for application in lithium-ion battery anodes due to its high theoretical capacity and low ***,problems with a fast capacity decay over cycling,especially at the first cycles,and poor rate performance have deterred its practical ***,electrodes comprised solely of few-layers 2D Mos_(2) nanosheets have been manufactured by scalable liquid-phase exfoliation and spray deposition *** long-standing controversy questioning the reversibility of conversion processes of Mos_(2)-based electrodes was *** studies revealed that,in 2D Mos_(2) electrodes,conversion processes are indeed reversible,where nanostructure played a key *** of the electrodes at high current rates revealed an intriguing phenomenon consisting of a continuously increasing capacity after ca.100-200 *** phenomenon was comprehensively addressed by a variety of electrochemical and microscopy methods that revealed underlying physical activation mechanisms that involved a range of profound electrode structural *** mechanisms delivered a capacitive electrode of a superior rate performance and cycling stability,as compared to the corresponding pristine electrodes,and to Mos_(2) electrodes previously ***,we have devised a methodology to overcome the problem of cycling stability of 2D Mos_(2) ***,activation of electrodes constitutes a methodology that could be applied to enhance the energy storage performance of electrodes based on other 2D nanomaterials,or combinations thereof,strategically combining chemistries to engineer electrodes of superior energy storage properties.

Peptides and Peptidomics: A Tool with Potential in Control of Plant Viral Diseases

Plant viruses are the most infectious agents in commercially important crops worldwide. Plant viral diseases are important because both decreased yielding and quality of fruits, flowers or vegetables lead to million-dollar losses in production. At present there are no reports which suggest a direct control of plant virus. A new strategy for plant virus control has been raised since 13 years ago—the use of peptides. Peptides could offer a direct interaction by affinity selection against viral proteins involved in infection cycle, like capsid or movement protein (e.g.) and affect viral replication. Peptidomics, as a new tool to study peptides, led us screening and selecting the best peptide with antiviral activity, and re-designing it to enhance the biological effect as well as the potential of bioactivity of those peptides secreted by microbes present in soil. In this paper we review current aspects in the use of peptides and peptidomics as a strategy to study new methods that lead a direct control against plant viral diseases.

Hydro-Adsorption study by Dynamic Laser speckle of Natural Zeolite for Adsorbent and Fertilizer Applications

The dynamic behavior caused by hydro-adsorption process of materials based on a rich mineral clinoptilolite together with their acidic, basic and calcinated forms has been studied by the dynamic laser speckle (DLs) technique. We propose a modified Peleg’s equation to improve fitting of DLs data. Textural (BET), structural (XRD) and spectroscopic (FTIR) properties were also studied and compared. We demonstrated that DLs was the most sensitive, simple and inexpensive method for comparing the performance of adsorptive materials with slightly modified surfaces. It also allowed the correlation with physicochemical properties.

Clinical Facial study of the Parents of Children with OAV (Oculo-Auriculo-Vertebral) syndrome. Cases and Controls

Introduction: The oculo-auriculo-vertebral syndrome is a complex disease of the head and neck. Aim: The purpose of this study was to look for facial asymmetry, measuring both sides of the mandible and external ear in the parents of these patients in a clinical way, to see if it could be considered as a minor manifestation of the disease. Patients and Methods: A clinical, observational study was done with 50 trios and their parents’ controls, at the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación LGII in 2019, from January to May. Mandible and ear measurements were done. Results: All of our patients had microtia and facial asymmetry, and in 17 cases, other anomalies. We compared both sides of the mandible in the patients’ parents and in the parents’ controls. The results showed differences only in the fathers, and in the comparison with the controls, we found statistical differences only in women, family and non-family cases. The ears did not show any differences. Discussion: It is very interesting that we found differences in the measurements of the mandible of the patients’ mothers and their controls;in the mothers the mandible was bigger than in the controls, this probably means that the development of the cranial structures is modified by some genetic variants. No differences were found in the measurements of the ears. Conclusion: It is very difficult to know exactly if the differences we found are important or not. The clinical measurements could be a good option to establish if the parents have minor manifestations that could explain some heritability.

The ancestral cultures have described many therapeutic properties of garlic,therefore,it is of central interest to elucidate the molecular basis explaining this millenary empirical ***,it has been demonstrated a neuroprotective effect of allicin–a phytochemical present in garlic-linked to oxidative-inflammatory *** improved neuronal injury by heat shock protein 70(Hsp70)and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOs)***,allicin exerts renal protection involving a possible angiotensin type 1 receptor(AT1)*** connection,AT1 overexpression has been recognized as a central deleterious factor in many brain ***,there are no studies that evaluate AT1-Hsp70-iNOs interaction as a mechanism linked to ***,our central aim is to evaluate if the allicin protective effect is associated with an AT1-Hsp70-iNOs counterbalance *** this study,a murine microglial cell line(BV-2)was injured with lipopolysaccharides and treated or not with ***,it was evaluated cell viability,proinflammatory cytokine levels,cellular oxidative stress,iNOs,Hsp70,and AT1 protein expression(cellular and mitochondrial fractions),nitrite levels,and protein-protein *** results demonstrated that allicin could prevent neuronal injury due to a reduction in oxidative stress and inflammatory status mediated by an AT1-Hsp70-iNOs counterbalance axis linked to direct protein-protein interaction.
