In this work, the use of sepiolite for the removal of carbon dioxide from a carbon dioxide/methane mixture by a pressure swing adsorption （PsA） process has been researched. Adsorption equilibrium and kinetics have been measured in a fixed-bed, and the adsorption equilibrium parameters of carbon dioxide and methane on sepiolite have been obtained. A model based on the LDF approximation has been employed to simulate the fixed-bed kinetics, using the Langmuir equation to describe the adsorption equilibrium isotherm. The functioning of a PsA cycle for separating carbon dioxide/methane mixtures using sepiolite as adsorbent has also been studied. The experimental results were compared with the ones predicted by the model adapted to a PsA system. Methane with purity higher than 97% can be obtained from feeds containing carbon dioxide with concentrations ranging from 34% to 56% with the proposed PsA cycle. These results suggest that sepiolite is an adsorbent with good properties for its employment in a PsA cycle for carbon dioxide removal from landfill gases.

AIM:To investigate the effect of aqueous extract from Mangifera indica L.(MIE)on dextran sulfate sodium (Dss)-induced colitis in ***:MIE(150 mg/kg)was administered in two different protocols:(1)rectally,over 7 d at the same time as Dss administration;and(2)once daily over 14 d (by oral gavage,7 d before starting Dss,and rectally for 7 d during Dss administration).General observations of clinical signs were ***-inflammatory activity of MIE was assessed by myeloperoxidase(MPO)activity. colonic lipid peroxidation was determined by measuring the levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs).Reduced glutathione(GsH)levels,expression of inflammatory related mediators[inducible isoforms of nitric oxide synthase(iNOs)and cyclooxygenase (cOX)-2,respectively]and cytokines[tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αand TNF receptors 1 and 2]in colonic tissue were also ***(IL)-6 and TNF-α serum levels were also measured. REsULTs:The results demonstrated that MIE has anti-inflammatory properties by improvement of clinical signs,reduction of ulceration and reduced MPO activity when administered before *** addition,administration of MIE for 14 d resulted in an increase in GsH and reduction of TBARs levels and iNOs,cOX-2, TNF-αand TNF R-2 expression in colonic tissue,and a decrease in IL-6 and TNF-αserum levels. cONcLUsION:MIE has anti-inflammatory activity in a Dss-induced rat colitis model and preventive administration(prior to Dss)seems to be a more effective protocol.

Grasses represent one of the Earth’s most common plant groups,and natural and cultivated habitats dominated by grasses cover about 40%of the land *** turn,each grass species hosts multiple fungal species which can behave as *** analysis of the endophytic taxa identified in surveys conducted in 14 grass species showed that some of the most frequent taxa on each grass were also present across several host *** taxa were Alternaria,Epicoccum,cladosporium,Fusarium,and a few others.A similar analysis of airborne fungi surveyed at 41 different locations throughout the world showed that some of the most geographically widespread,and most locally frequent airborne fungi belonged to the same genera that are dominant endophytes in grasses(***,Alternaria,Fusarium,etc.).Therefore,airborne spores of genera that are ubiquitous in grasses are common worldwide and attain high atmospheric *** addition,spores of the above mentioned fungi are also important respiratory *** observation indicates that saprobic colonization and sporulation of non-systemic grass endophytes could become unrestrained when their host plant tissue ***,when appropriate environmental conditions favour sporulation on grass host surfaces,the natural cycle for airborne conidia initiates,and large numbers of these conidia disperse as inoculum for new endophytic ***,the cycle of endophytism may be an important link between climate,plant biology and public health.

cardiovascular risk factors(cVRF)are very prevalent in the elderly population and in addition to predisposing to cardiovascular disease they are related to functional decline,which limits the quality of life in this *** objective of this work is to offer a review of the current evidence in the management of cVRF in the elderly *** search strategy was executed in PubMed,*** and Embase,to search for clinical trials,observational cohort or cross-sectional studies,reviews,and clinical practice guidelines focused or including elderly *** results provided were refined after reading the title and abstract,as well as elimination of duplicates,and were finally identified and assessed following the GRADE methodology.A total of 136 studies were obtained for all predefined risk factors,such as sedentary lifestyle,smoking,obesity and metabolic syndrome,hypertension,diabetes mellitus,dyslipidemia and *** described the results of the studies identified and assessed according to their methodological quality in different recommendation sections:diagnostic and prevention,intervention,or treatment in the elderly *** the main limitation to the results of this review,there is the lack of quality studies whose target population is elderly *** issue limits the recommendations that can be made in this *** to this reason,comprehensive geriatric assessment seems the best tool currently available to implement the most appropriate treatment plans based on the baseline situation and comorbidity of each elderly patient.

Background To control the boll weevil Anthonomus grandis grandis(coleoptera:curculionidae),a key pest of cotton in the Americas,insecticides have been intensively used to manage their populations,increasing selection pressure for resistant ***,this study aimed to detect insecticide resistance and assess insecticide control failure likelihood of boll weevil populations exposed to malathion,profenophos+cypermethrin,and fipronil *** Twelve populations of the boll weevil were collected from commercial cotton fileds of the state of Bahia,northeastern *** populations were exposed to malathion,profenophos+cypermethrin mixture,and fipronil,at their respective maximum label dose for field *** replicates of 10 adult beetles were exposed to the insecticides and mortality was recorded after 24 h *** control failure likelihood was determined after 48 *** median lethal times(LT_(50))were observed for malathion and the profenophos+cypermethrin *** to at least one insecticide was detected in 11 populations;three populations were resistant to malathion and profenophos+cypermethrin;seven were resistant to all insecticides *** resistance levels were low(s tested,58%of them exhibited significant risk of control failure for the insecticides malathion and profenophos+*** insecticide fipronil was efficient for the control of the boll weevil in 83%of the *** The results confirm the significant risk of insecticide control failure in the boll weevil populations to the main compounds used in the ***,proper insecticide resistance management plans are necessary for the boll weevil in the region,particularly for malathion and profenophos+cypermethrin insecticides.

Breeding of forage maize should combine improvement achieved for grain with the specific needs of forage hybrids. Production stability is important when maize is used for silage if the planting area is not in the ideal agronomic environment. The objectives of the present research were:(i) to quantify environmental and genetic and their interaction effects on maize silage traits;(ii) to identify possible heterotic groups for forage aptitude and suggest the formation of potential heterotic patterns, and(iii) to identify suitable inbred line combinations for producing hybrids with forage aptitude. Forty-five hybrids derived from diallelic crosses(without reciprocals) among ten inbred lines of maize were evaluated in this study. combined ANOVA over environments showed differences between genotypes(G), environments(E), and their interactions(GEI). Heritability(H2), and genotypic and phenotypic correlations were estimated to evaluate the variation in and relationships between forage traits. Postdictive and predictive AMMI models were fitted to determine the importance of each source of variation, G, E, and GEI, and to select genotypes simultaneously on yield, quality and stability. A predominance of additive effects was found in the evaluated traits. The heterotic pattern Reid-Bsss × Argentine flint was confirmed for ear yield(EY) and harvest index(HI). High and broad genetic variation was found for stover and whole plant traits. some inbred lines had genes with differential breeding aptitude for ear and stover. stover and ear yield should be the main breeding objectives in maize forage breeding.
