A new low-cost sensing system for rapid ring estimation of woody plants to support tree management

Continuous monitoring of the diameter and rings of woody plants is required to evaluate agroforestry products such as *** measurement is still widely used to monitor tree growth but it is *** addition,advanced equipment and software are available but they require technical skills and are costly for ***,we have developed a rapid and low-cost sensing system for estimating the diameters of woody *** apparatus includes a sensor and Internet of things(IoT)technology,which can be used under any network *** apparatus was tested with various trees and the results were compared with those obtained by manual *** findings using the newly developed system demonstrate a strong correlation(R2=0.99)with the manually performed *** rapid and low-cost diameter sensing system will be useful in the expansion of agroforestry sensing networks and beneficial to ***,the system will assist in informing foresters of potential problems in timely manner.

Technologically empowering farmers/smallholders notably accelerates the knowledge transfer to monitor plantations in developing ***,cost-effective technologies can rapidly increase the effectiveness of using expenses,labor,and *** is no limit to using digital cameras for non-destructive measurements,such as nutrient monitoring,pests and diseases,yield monitoring,and other information related to individual plant conditions in the plantation *** paper elaborates the fundamental concepts and best practices for future research on how to use image information from a single digital camera in decision support systems as a solution to monitoring plantations such as coffee,cocoa,and tree *** paper reviews the recent and potential research on plantation monitoring using a digital camera and other suitable integrated ***,we propose a protocol for use as a possible solution for smallholders to cope with the limitation in network/internet access *** this protocol,an integrated system for monitoring the farm activities of smallholders can be established.

Instead of foreseeing and preparing for all possible scenarios of machine failures,accidents,and other challenges arising in space missions,it appears logical to take advantage of the flexibility of additive manufacturing for“in-space manufacturing”(ISM).Manned missions into space rely on complicated equipment,and their safe operation is a great *** in mind the absolute distance for manned missions to the Moon and Mars,the supply of spare parts for the repair and replacement of lost equipment via shipment from Earth would require too much *** the high flexibility in design and the ability to manufacture ready-to-use components directly from a computer-aided model,additive manufacturing technologies appear to be extremely attractive in this ***,appropriate technologies are required for the manufacture of building habitats for extended stays of astronauts on the Moon and Mars,as well as material/*** capacities for sending equipment and material into space are not only very limited and costly,but also raise concerns regarding environmental issues on ***,not all materials can be sent from Earth,and strategies for the use of in-situ resources,i.e.,in-situ resource utilization(ISRU),are being *** the manufacturing of both complex parts and equipment,as well as for large infrastructure,appropriate technologies for material processing in space need to be developed.
