Efficient management of chronic illness remains a common clinical problem. Non-adherence to a prescribed medical regimen remains a tremendous barrier to the effective medical management of chronic diseases and is considered one of the most serious problems that the medical world faces in the present. Tuberculosis is one such chronic disease which has been a prevalent problem in most of the developing nations, including India. In this paper, we describe an ethnographic study conducted in the state of Assam, with the objective of deciphering the multiple factors that are associated with the failure of the treatment regimen of Tuberculosis, viz. the DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short course) programme under RNTCP (Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme).

Role of Neo-Adjuvant Chemotherapy in the Treatment of Osteosarcoma

Osteosarcoma is a tumour characterized by the production of osteoid by malignant cells. The incidence is approximately 1 to 3 million/year. The incidence is slightly higher in males. Onset can occur at any age;however, primary high grade osteosarcoma usually occurs in the second decade of life. Historically patients with osteosarcoma were treated with immediate wide or radical amputation. Despite the treatment, 80% patients with apparently isolated disease died of distant metastases. In recent years the number of patients with osteosarcoma of the limb treated by amputation + chemotherapy has increased. In our study, we divided the patients into two groups. One group (A) was treated with amputation + adjuvant chemotherapy. The other group (B) was treated with neo-adjuvant chemotherapy + amputation followed by adjuvant-chemotherapy. In our study, the margin negativity in post surgical specimen was significantly higher (P-value 0.0007) for the group treated with neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Local recurrence in the group treated without neoadjuvant chemotherapy was significantly more (P-value 0.0005).The systemic recurrence at the end of 6 months was higher the group treated without neoadjuvant chemotherapy (P-value 0.0169).However systemic recurrence between 6 months -1 year and 1 year - 2 years were not significant(P-values 0.1501 and 0.4902). From the above figures it may be concluded that treatment with neo-adjuvant chemotherapy + amputation + adjuvant chemotherapy had definite advantages over upfront amputation + adjuvant chemotherapy.)

In this work,phase and morphology-tuned MoO_(3) nanostructures are synthesized through a novel modified co-precipitation method,and their electrochemical properties are *** the first time,such a simple surfactant-assisted synthesis process aided by minor temperature variations is reported which results in phase transition of the nanoparticles from h-MoO_(3) nano-rods to a-MoO_(3) *** nanostructures thus developed are highly porous and crystalline with significantly large specific surface area as compared to previous *** theoretical bandgap energy of the optimized sample calculated using Perdew-Zunger local density approximation(LDA) is in good agreement with the experimental *** overall structural,morphological,and surface-behavioural analysis predicts the electrochemical superiority in 2D a-MoO_(3).The cyclic voltammetry and galvano-potentiometry measurements of 2D a-MoO_(3) in the potential window of-0.6 V to +0.2 V present the highest pseudosupercapacitive response with a maximum specific capacitance of 829 F g^(-1)at 2 A g^(-1)as compared to h-MoO_(3) (452 F g^(-1)) and h@a-MoO_(3) (783 F g^(-1)).Thus,the MoO_(3) 2D nanostructures synthesized through our novel synthesis technique display excellent specific capacitance as compared to previous reported ***,a-MoO_(3) exhibits a galvanostatic charging-discharging cyclic stability of about 91%after 2000 cycles,indicating that it can serve as an excellent electrode material for supercapacitors.A solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor device is successfully constructed using a-MoO_(3) which can light up 4 red LEDs for 10 *** specific energy density of the device reaches a maximum value of 36.3 W h kg^(-1)at the power density of 50 W kg^(-1).

In the present work, we measured the forward bias current-voltage（I-V） characteristics of Si-doped n type gallium arsenide（GaAs） heterostructures infrared emitter over a wide temperature range from 350 to 77 K. Results showed that the slopes of the exponential curve changed slowly with temperature. The analysis of the various tunneling mechanisms indicated that the tunneling current varied approximately as a function of ～ exp（ – αEg+ βeV）where the parameters α and β varied indistinctively with temperature and voltage. The dependence of forward tunneling current on the temperature and bias can be explained by thermally induced band gap shrinkage and bias induced route change respectively. These results will be helpful for application of the optoelectronics device in both high and low temperature ambiences.

Poly(AAc-co-DMAPMA) membrane (PADMA) is synthesized by free radical aqueous copolymerization of acrylic acid (AAc) and N-3-[dimethylamino)propyl]-methacrylamide (DMAPMA) to check its stability and conductivity. The hydrogel membrane characterized physically to study morphology by SEM, thermal stability by TGA and mechanical stability by measuring compressive strength and ionic conductivity by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in alkaline as well as in acidic environment at different temperatures. The compression modulus of the hydrogel membrane is 24 kPa at pH = 1.0 and 16 kPa at pH = 7.0, and stable (no fracture) till 72% deformation. The PADMA hydrogel membrane ionic conductivity increased with the increase in temperature and structurally stable up to 190°C. Improvement in ionic conductivity is observed after the heat treatment of the membrane. Compared with ionic conductivity of Nafion? (SE512), the PADMA membrane found to be inferior. However, the PADMA hydrogel membrane conductivity was greater (~1 × 10-4S/cm) at low and high pH compared with neutral pH (~1 × 10-5S/cm) indicating the possibility of using the membrane as either a proton and hydroxyl ion conductor.

In this paper, a method to construct oblique wave-free potentials in the linearised theory of water waves for water with uniform finite depth is presented in a systematic manner. The water has either a free surface or an ice-cover modelled as a thin elastic plate. For the case of free surface, the effect of surface tension may be neglected or taken into account. Here, the wave-free potentials are singular solutions of the modified Helmholtz equation, having singularity at a point in the fluid region and they satisfy the conditions at the upper surface and the bottom of water region and decay rapidly away from the point of singularity. These are useful in obtaining solutions to oblique water wave problems involving bodies with circular cross-sections such as long horizontal cylinders submerged or half-immersed in water of uniform fmite depth with a free surface or an ice-cover modelled as a floating elastic plate. Finally, the forms of the upper surface related to the wave-free potentials constructed here are depicted graphically in a number of figures to visualize the wave motion. The results for non-oblique wave-free potentials and the upper surface wave-free potentials are obtained. The wave-free potentials constructed here will be useful in the mathematical study of water wave problems involving infinitely long horizontal cylinders, either half-immersed or completely immersed in water.

Post-Fertilization development of Seed in French Bean Genotypes： Changes in Seed Quality

An experiment was conducted to evaluate physiological maturity of French bean genotypes at District Seed Farm ＂D＂ Block, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal during winter season of both 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. All the five genotypes were grown with sufficient population in three replications following randomized block design （RBD） for the purpose of developmental studies. developing pods were harvested at different stages, starting from 7 days after anthesis （7 DAA） to 49 DAA with an interval of 7 d, including the field maturity stage, thus leading to study on maximum seven different stages. Harvested pods and seeds were utilized for this development programme through dry seed weight, germination and vigour index. Enhancement in dry matter accumulation in seed continued till 42 DAA for Selection 9 and Victoria in both the years; it was 49 and 42 DAA for Sonali in respective years; it was 49 DAA for Abhay in both the years; and for Deepali, it was 42 DAA along with statistically similar magnitude at 49 DAA. Significant enhancement in germination potential of developing seeds continued till 42 DAA for Selection 9 and Deepali, while it was 49 DAA for the other three genotypes. Enhancement in vigour index continued till 49 DAA for all the genotypes except for Selection 9, for which it continued till 42 DAA and then declined.
