It is essential to study the porosity,thermal conductivity,and P-wave velocity of calcarenites,as well as the anisotropy coefficients of the thermal conductivity and P-wave velocity,for civil engineering,and conservation and restoration of historical *** study focuses on measuring the thermal conductivity using the thermal conductivity scanning(TCS)technique and measuring the P-wave ve-locity using portable *** was applied for some dry and saturated calcarenite samples in the horizontal and vertical directions(parallel and perpendicular to the bedding plane,respectively).The calcarenites were selected from some historical monuments in *** physical properties were measured in the laboratory to find a reliable relationship between all of these *** a result of the statistical analysis of the obtained data,excellent linear relationships were observed between the porosity and both the thermal conductivity and *** relationships are characterized by relatively high coefficients of determination for the horizontal and vertical *** on the thermal conductivity and P-wave velocity values in these two directions,the anisotropy coefficients of these two properties were *** internal structure and the pore fabric of the calcarenite samples were delineated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),while their chemical and mineral compositions were studied using the energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDXA)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)techniques.

The theory of two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity is used to solve the problem of heating a semi-infinite rod made of a piezoelectric ceramic material within the framework of generalized thermopiezoelasticity theory by supplying the rod a certain amount of heat uniformly distributed over a finite time period to the finite end of the rod. The Laplace transform formalism is used to solve the proposed model. Inverse Laplace transforms are computed numerically using a method based on Fourier expansion techniques. The physical parameters (i.e., conductive temperature, dynamical temperature, stress, strain, and displacement distributions) are investigated graphically.

We are reporting the longest disease-free interval ever published for colorectal cancer, using gene profiling to confirm the linkage of the primary and metastasis. This rare case reports on a patient with late recurrence of colorectal cancer in the lung 19 years after its initial diagnosis. We used high-resolution array CGH(aCGH) to analyze the genetic aberrations of both the primary rectal and the recurrent metastatic lung lesions. Interestingly, we found striking similarities between the two lesions, despite the 19 years disease-free *** addition, most of the genes that were previously reported to be associated with a high recurrence score showed copy number gains by aCGH in one or both lesions. Our findings suggest that aCGH may be a helpful tool in analyzing the origin of metastatic lesions and reflect the need for a better understanding of the characteristics of the rectal tumors with a late recurrence potential.

Under the steadily intensifying human activities in coastal areas,it is crucial to distinguish the sources of organic matter(OM)in sediments for better understanding of the environmental *** this study,25 surface sediments collected along the harbor and creeks areas off Karachi coast were used for total organic carbon(TOC),total nitrogen(TN),stable carbon(δ^(13)C)and nitrogen(δ^(15)N)isotopic compositions,phytoplankton biomarkers(brassicasterol,dinosterol and cholesterol)and glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers(GDGTs)analyses,to trace the distribution of OM and identify its ***,TN,δ^(13)C,and δ^(15)N are in the range of 0.04% to 5.28%,0.01% to 0.57%,-17.55‰ to -26.31‰,and 2.83‰ to 6.04‰,respectively.C/N values range from 4.24 to *** δ^(13)C,δ^(15)N,C/N,BIT(Branched Isoprenoid Tetraether)index together with phytoplankton biomarkers show both marine and terrestrial OM input to the creeks and Harbor *** contrast,the stations from Western Coast indicate a marine source predominance.A clearly impact of human activities is seen from sediments near river mouths.

The olive mill waste waters (OMWW) generated from olive oil extraction is a major environmental concern since they are characterized by their role as a pollutant (high organic and mineral matters) and their pH acid. The aim of this study was to valorize (OMWW) by anaerobic fermentation in the presence of cow manure in order to produce biogas and reduce their toxic load. Many tests were carried out by fermenting (OMWW) with polyphenols in the presence of cow manure in thermophile temperatures. The performance of this treatment was valuated through measurements of biogas production and by the determination of different parameters of fermented media (pH, volume of the biogas and polyphenols).

AIM:To find a non-invasive strategy for detecting choledocholithiasis before cholecystectomy,with an acceptable negative rate of endoscopic retrograde ***:All patients with symptomatic gallstones were included in the *** with abnormal liver functions and common bile duct abnormalities on ultrasound were referred for endoscopic retrograde *** with normal ultrasoundwere referred to magnetic resonance *** those who had a negative magnetic resonance or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy with intraoperative ***:Seventy-eight point five percent of patients had laparoscopic cholecystectomy directly with no further ***-one point five percent had abnormal liver function tests,of which 52.8%had normal ultrasound *** strategy avoided unnecessary magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography in 47.2%of patients with abnormal liver function tests with a negative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography rate of 10%.It also avoided un-necessary endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in 35.2%of patients with abnormal liver ***:This strategy reduces the cost of the routine use of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography,in the diagnosis and treatment of common bile duct stones before laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The Art of Talc Flotation for Different Industrial Applications

Talc has found a steadily increasing number of uses such as cosmetics, steatite and cordierite ceramics, for pitch control in the paper industry and as a reinforcing filler in rubber, etc. In this research, the amenability of some Egyptian carboniferous finely disseminated talc ores to beneficiation by flotation was investigated on laboratory scale. The original talc sample is characterized by low MgO content (25.40%), low SiO2 (45.71%), high CaO content (6.32%) and high L.O.I. (11.35%), indicating its low grade. Attrition scrubbing of the crushed ores was found to be an unconventional process, not only for fine talc production, but also for proper separation of the harder carbonaceous gangue. Talc pre-concentrates, less than 0.074 μm, were prepared by attrition scrubbing in the laboratory having 8.40% L.O.I. with a yield reaching 74.70%. Cleaner talc concentrate with L.O.I. content averaging 6.70% was obtained by flotation in the presence of Aerofroth 71 with a yield reaching 64.71%. This was relatively improved by the use of a selective (quaternary amine) talc collector and in presence of a selective carbonate depressant (soda ash). Flotation of the fine ground talc (less than 22 μm) produced a talc concentrate assaying 6.90% L.O.I. with a yield recovery of 62.91%. However, different talc concentrates obtained by just natural floatability or by the use of small dose of Aerofroth 71, or by the application of quaternary amine in presence of carbonate depressant, satisfy the requirement of paper coating, ceramics production, functional filler, and pharmaceuticals applications. Tailings could also be used in carpets, roofs, and tiles production industries.

The adequacy of using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) retrofit technique to restore the flexure-compression behavior of deteriorated bridge timber piles is examined experimentally in this paper. Sixteen specimens are tested monotonically under eccentric compressive loading. The specimens are first tested in their unretrofitted condition to determine their elastic properties. Each specimen is then cut and connected (posted) using the proposed FRP retrofit technique, and retested. The results show that the retrofitted specimens are capable of reaching same or higher strengths than that of the unretrofitted specimens with minimal reduction in their stiffness. Based on the experimental results, a design equation is presented to compute the volumetric ratio of FRP needed for retrofitting bridge timber piles under eccentric load.
