Salvadora persica extract attenuates cyclophosphamide-induced hepatorenal damage by modulating oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis in rats

Objective: Salvadora persica(SP) is used as a food additive and is a common ingredient in folk *** study investigates the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and beneficial effects of SP against cyclophosphamide(CYP) toxicity in ***: In a 10-day study, 32 male rats were equally allocated into 4 groups(8 rats/group) as follows:the normal control(NC group), normal rats that only received oral aqueous extract of SP(100 mg/[kg·d];SP group), animals treated with intraperitoneal CYP injections(30 mg/[kg·d];CYP group), and the CYP + SP group that concurrently received CYP with SP aqueous extract. Serum samples were collected to measure the liver and renal biochemical profiles, as well as antioxidant and oxidative stress markers and the concentrations of interleukin-1β(IL-1β), IL-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a), nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB) and adenosine 5’-monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK). Hepatic and renal tissues were also harvested for histopathology and to measure apoptosis using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling technique, alongside tissue levels of oxidative stress ***: Liver enzymes, total bilirubin, creatinine and urea, as well as serum IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-a and NF-κB increased significantly, whilst total protein, albumin, calcium, IL-10 and AMPK declined in serum of the CYP group relative to the NC group. The hepatorenal concentrations of glutathione, glutathione peroxidase and catalase declined markedly in the CYP group, whereas malondialdehyde, protein adducts, and apoptosis index increased compared with the NC group. By contrast, the hepatorenal biochemistry and apoptosis index of the SP group were comparable to the NC group. Interestingly, the CYP + SP group had significant improvements in the liver and renal biochemical parameters, enhanced anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, and marked declines in hepatic and renal apoptosis relative to the CYP group. Predicting the impacts of climate change on the distribution of Moringa peregrina(Forssk.)Fiori-A conservation approach

Climate change will affect the geographic distribution and richness of species at different spatial and temporal *** applied Maximum entropy(MaxEnt)modeling to predict the potential influence of climatic change on the current and future distribution of the important mountainous tree species Moringa peregrina(Forssk.)*** Maxent model performed better than random models for the species with the training and test AUC(Area Under the receiver-operating characteristic Curve)values of 0.96 and 0.90,*** test and response curves showed that the distribution of the species negatively correlates with higher altitudes and precipitation in October and ***,it positively correlates with the total annual precipitation and precipitation in *** current and future climatic conditions,our model predicted habitat gains for *** towards the coastal northern and southern limits of its *** potentially suitable habitats,under future climate projections,are currently characterized by elevations of<1000 m *** total annual precipitation of 80-225 mm/*** and high potential habitat suitability will increase by 5.6%-6%and 2.1%-2.3%,under RCP2.6 and RCP4.5 scenario,*** results indicated that the habitat suitability of *** would increase with increasing climate warming,particularly under RCP2.6 *** recommend sustainable conservation and cultivation of Moringa peregrina in its current habitats along the Red Sea mountains.

Simple and sensitive method for the determination of trace amounts of thorium using a benzoquinone derivative

A novel simple, sensitive, rapid, direct, and spectrophotometry-based procedure was investigated to determine Th(IV) at trace amounts. The new method is based on Th(IV) chelation with 3,6-dichloro-2,5-dihydroxy-l,4-benzoquinone(DDBQ). The reagent reacts with Th(IV) in 0.1 M HCl to form an orange 1:2 complex. The stability constant value is 6.62×10~4 for the Th(IV)complex. The Th(IV)-DDBQ obtained shows one peak with a maximum at about 346 nm. The chelate forms immediately and the absorbance remains stable for over24 h. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range0–10 μg mL^(-1). The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity were 4.4×10~4 L mol^(-1)cm^(-1) and 0.0053 μg cm^(-2), respectively. Different analytical parameters were tested in detail. Interfering ion(cations and anions) effects were tested. Methods for Th(IV) determination by second and third-derivative spectrophotometry were also introduced at about 344 and 341 nm, respectively. These two derivative orders offer the feature of sensitivity without the necessity for solvent extraction,heating, or pre-concentration steps. Finally, the methods were successfully utilized for Th(IV) determination in monazite, environmental water, and wastewater samples.

Practical stabilization of a class of uncertain time-varying nonlinear delay systems

In this paper we deal with a class of uncertain time-varying nonlinear systems with a state delay. Under some assumptions, we construct some stabilizing continuous feedback, i.e. linear and nonlinear in the state, which can guarantee global uniform exponential stability and global uniform practical convergence of the considered system. The quadratic Lyapunov function for the nominal stable system is used as a Lyapunov candidate function for the global system. The results developed in this note are applicable to a class of dynamical systems with uncertain time-delay. Our result is illustrated by a numerical example.

Absolute Stability of Nonlinear Systems with Two Additive Time-varying Delay Components

In this paper, we present a new sufficient condition for absolute stability of Lure system with two additive time-varying delay components. This criterion is expressed as a set of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）, which can be readily tested by using standard numerical software. We use this new criterion to stabilize a class of nonlinear time-delay systems. Some numerical examples are given to illustrate the applicability of the results using standard numerical software.

A secure image steganography algorithm based on least significant bit and integer wavelet transform

The rapid development of data communication in modern era demands secure exchange of information. Steganography is an established method for hiding secret data from an unauthorized access into a cover object in such a way that it is invisible to human eyes. The cover object can be image, text, audio,or video. This paper proposes a secure steganography algorithm that hides a bitstream of the secret text into the least significant bits（LSBs） of the approximation coefficients of the integer wavelet transform（IWT） of grayscale images as well as each component of color images to form stego-images. The embedding and extracting phases of the proposed steganography algorithms are performed using the MATLAB software. Invisibility, payload capacity, and security in terms of peak signal to noise ratio（PSNR） and robustness are the key challenges to steganography. The statistical distortion between the cover images and the stego-images is measured by using the mean square error（MSE） and the PSNR, while the degree of closeness between them is evaluated using the normalized cross correlation（NCC）. The experimental results show that, the proposed algorithms can hide the secret text with a large payload capacity with a high level of security and a higher invisibility. Furthermore, the proposed technique is computationally efficient and better results for both PSNR and NCC are achieved compared with the previous algorithms.

Effects of C_8 ventral root avulsion or transection on spinal alpha motoneurons in adult rats A qualitative light and electron microscopic study

BACKGROUND： Nerve root avulsion is a frequent finding in patients with brachial plexus injury following road traffic accidents or as a result of severe arm traction during complicated deliveries. This injury constitutes a challenging clinical and surgical problem. The morphological characteristics of motoneurons after nerve root avulsion deserve further analysis. OBJECTIVE： To study the different morphological changes of α-motoneurons under light and electron microscopy after C8 spinal ventral rootlets avulsion and transection at various stages. DESIGN： Controlled animal study. SETTING： Department of Anatomy, King Faisal University. MATERIALS： The experiment was carried out at the Department of Anatomy, College of Medicine, King Faisal University between January 2005 and March 2006. Six adult Sprague Dawley rats weighing 200-350 g, irrespective of gender, were used for this study. The animals were bred at the animal house, College of Medicine, King Faisal University, and fed on rat maintenance diet. Water and standard diet were supplied ad libitum. Animal interventions were carried out according to animal ethical standards. METHODS： Three animals were randomly chosen for avulsion of the right ventral rootlets of C8 spinal nerves. The other three received transection of the right ventral rootlets of C8 spinal nerves. ①Avulsion experiment： After rats were anesthetized, the right ventral rootlets of C8 spinal nerves were identified. The ventral rootlets were avulsed from the spinal cord by traction with a fine hook （Fine Science Tools Inc., No. 10031-13, Germany）. Traction was exerted in a direction parallel to the course of the spinal root. Under the operating microscope, the C8 segment was exactly located. After checking the successfulness of the surgical procedure, the C8 segment was separated from the spinal cord.
