We reported magnetooptical properties of eu3＋（4f（6）） and Tb3＋（4f（8）） in single crystals of Gd3Ga5O12 （GGG）, Y3Ga5O12 （YGG）, and eu3＋（4f（6）） in eu3Ga5O12 （euGG） for both ions occupying sites of D2 symmetry in the garnet structure. Absorption, luminescence, and magnetic circular polarization of luminescence （MCPL） spectra of Tb3＋ in GGG and YGG and absorption and magnetic circular dichroism （MCD） of eu3＋ in euGG were studied. The data were obtained at 85 K and room temperature （RT）. Magnetic susceptibility of eu3＋ in euGG was also measured between 85 K and RT. The magnetooptical and magnetic susceptibility data were modeled using the wavefunctions of the crystal-field split energy （Stark） levels of eu3＋ and Tb3＋ occupying D2 sites in the same garnets. The results reported gave a precise determination of these Stark level assignments and confirmed the symmetry labels （irreducible representations） of the closely-spaced Stark levels （quasi-doublets） found in the 5D1 （eu3＋） and 5D4 （Tb3＋） multiplets. Ultraviolet （UV） excitation （300 nm） of the 6PJ and 6IJ states of Gd3＋ in the doped GGG crystals led to emission from 5D4 （Tb3＋） and 5D1 and 5D0 （eu3＋） through radiationless energy transfer to the 4f（n–1）5d band of Tb3＋ and to UV quintet states of eu3＋. The temperature-dependent emission line shapes and line shifts of the magnetooptical transitions excited by UV radiation suggested a novel way to explore energy transfer mechanisms in this rare-earth doped garnet system.

The shortage of donor livers has led to an increased use of organs from expanded criteria donors. Included are livers with steatosis, a metabolic abnormality that increases the likelihood of graft complications posttransplantation. After a brief introduction on the etiology, pathophysiology, categories and experimental models of hepatic steatosis, we herein review the methods to rescue steatotic donor livers before transplantation applied in clinical and experimental studies. The methods span the spectrum of encouraging donor weight loss, employing drug therapy, heat shock preconditioning, ischemia preconditioning and selective anesthesia on donors, and the treatment on isolated grafts during preservation. These methods work at different stages of transplantation process, although share similar molecular mechanisms including lipid metabolism stimulation through enzymes or nuclear receptor e.g. , peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptor, or anti-inflammation through suppressing cytokines e.g. , tumor necrosis factor-α, or antioxidant therapies to alleviate oxidative stress. This similarity of molecular mechanisms implies possible future attempts to reinforce each approach by repeating the same treatment approach at several stages of procurement and preservation, as well as utilizing these alternative approaches in tandem.

A mixed fruit beverage was formulated according to D-optimal mixture design using apple ber juice(X_(1),45-59%v/v)-an underexplored fruit,carambola juice(X_(2),1-20%v/v),and black table grape juice(X3,35-40%v/v).The crisp overall acceptability(COA)from 16 semi-trained panelists and overall hedonic score(OSH)from consumers were *** best formulation was apple ber:carambola:black table grape juices=59.0:3.5:37.5 v/v with COA and OSH values of 3.23(on a scale of 5)and 7.55(on a scale of 9),***,the efficacy of pulsed light(PL)(18-30 W cm^(-2) for 33-167 s;total fluence 600-5000 J cm^(-2))and thermal treatments(90℃ for 1-5 min)were studied on various attributes of the mixed *** beverages processed at 90℃ for 5 min(thermal treatment)and 5000 J cm^(-2)(PL treatment at 30 W cm^(-2) for 167 s)showed no microbial count with a complete enzyme *** thermally pasteurized sample(90℃/5 min)was more brown(browning index=70.15)than the PL pasteurized beverage(browning index=65.98).Interestingly,the PL pasteurized(5000 J cm^(-2))beverage showed 25%,27%,and 19% more vitamin C,antioxidants,and phenolic compounds,respectively,than the thermally pasteurized(90℃/5 min)*** PL-treated beverage had a greater sensory appeal than the thermally treated ***-treatment can be an efficient non-thermal pasteurization treatment for ensuring complete microbial and enzymatic inactivation with maximal retention of nutritional and sensory attributes of the blended beverage.

Accurate detection of unique herbs is crucial for herbal medicine preparation. Zingiberaceae species, which are important in Ayurvedic medicine of India, are often misidentified in Northeast (Ne) Indian herbal markets. Kaempferia galanga (Zingiberaceae) is one of the major components of popular Ayurvedic drugs used for rheumatic diseases (i.e.,“Gandha Thailam” and “Rasnairandadi Kashayam”), contusions, fractures, and sprains. In Ne India, herbal healers often misidentify plants from the Marantaceae family (e.g., Calathea bachemiana and Maranta leuconeura) as Kaempferia, which leads to adulteration of the medicinal herb. This misidentification of herbs occurs in Ne India because Zingiberaceae plant barcoding information is inadequate. As a consequence, herbal medicine is not only therapeutically less effective but may also cause adverse reactions that range from mild to life-threatening. In this study, we used eight barcoding loci to develop “fingerprints” for four Kaempferia species and two species frequently mistaken for Kaempferia. The PCR and sequencing success of the loci matK, rbcL and trnH-psbA were found to be 100%;the combination of matK, rbcL, and trnH-psbA proved to be the ideal locus for discriminating the Kaempferia species from their adulterants because the combined loci showed greater variability than individual loci. This reliable tool was therefore developed in the current study for accurate identification of Kaempferia plants which can effectively resolve identification issues for herbal healers.

An empirical Research of ethical Banking in Turkey

ethical banks can be defined as financial institutions providing both social and economic profitability for the society and environment. Placement of assets and avoiding social exclusion are significant factors that differentiate ethical banks and the rest of financial intermediaries. ethical banking is a new concept in Turkey. This paper analyzes the situation of ethical banking by examining the significant differences in lending behaviors of 49 Turkish banks in terms of their functions and ownership structures. We conducted non-parametric tests of Kruskal Wallis, Jonckheere-Terpstra, Mann-Whitney, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Wald-Wolfowitz. We found that in terms of ownership structure, state-owned banks are more ethical than private banks when the placement of assets and avoiding social exclusion factors are considered. In terms of function, participation banks locate their funds to social value generating sectors more ethically than deposit and development banks. From the avoiding exclusion aspect, deposit banks are more ethical than other functional banking groups （i.e., participation and development banks）.

To the editor： Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory, immune-mediated skin disease. Current research suggests that the inflammatory mechanisms are immune-based and maintained primarily by T cells in the dermis） The more common disorders associated with psoriasis are psoriatic arthropathy and inflammatory bowel diseases. It is reported that more than 30% of patients with psoriasis have arthritis which may be accompanied by microscopic inflammatory changes of colonic mucosa even in absence of bowel symptoms.2
