New parameter in diagnosis of acute appendicitis:Platelet distribution width

AIm:To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of the mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width in acute ***:This retrospective,case-controlled study compared 295 patients with acute appendicitis(Group?Ⅰ),100 patients with other intra-abdominal infections(GroupⅡ),and 100 healthy individuals(GroupⅢ)between January 2012 and January *** age,gender,and white blood cell count,neutrophil percentage,mean platelet volume,and platelet distribution width values from blood samples were compared among the *** analyses were performed using SPSS for Windows 21.0 *** addition,the sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values and likelihood ratios,and diagnostic accuracy were ***:The mean ages of patients were 29.9±12.0years for Group?Ⅰ,31.5±14.0 years for GroupⅡ,and30.4±13.0 years for GroupⅢ.Demographic features such as age and gender were not significantly different among the *** blood cell count,neutrophil percentage and platelet distribution width were significantly higher in Group?Ⅰ?compared to groupsⅡandⅢ(Pe sensitivity,specificity and diagnostic accuracy were 73.1%,94.0%,and 78%for white blood cell count,70.0%,96.0%,and 76.0%for neutrophil percentage,29.5%,49.0%,and 34.0%for mean platelet volume,and 97.1%,93.0%,and 96.0%for platelet distribution width,*** highest diagnostic accuracy detected was for platelet distribution width between Group?Ⅰ?and GroupⅢ(Pelet distribution width analysis can be used for diagnosis of acute appendicitis without requiring additional tests,thus reducing the cost and loss of time.

Silicene nanoribbons on transition metal dichalcogenide substrates： effects on electronic structure and ballistic transport

The idea of stacking multiple monolayers of different two-dimensional materials has become a global pursuit. In this work a silicene armchair nanoribbon of width W and van der Waals-bonded to different transition-metal dichalcogenide （TmD） bilayer substrates moX2 and WX2, where X = S, Se, Te is considered. The orbital resolved electronic structure and ballistic transport properties of these systems are simulated by employing van der Waals-corrected density functional theory and nonequilibrium Green＇s functions. We find that the lattice mismatch with the underlying substrate determines the electronic structure, correlated with the silicene buckling distortion and ultimately with the contact resistance of the two-terminal system. The smallest lattice mismatch, obtained with the moTe2 substrate, results in the silicene ribbon properties coming close to those of a freestanding one. With the TmD bilayer acting as a dielectric layer, the electronic structure is tunable from a direct to an indirect semiconducting layer, and subsequently to a metallic electronic dispersion layer, with a moderate applied perpendicular electric field.

Simulation Architecture for modelling Interaction Between User and elbow-articulated exoskeleton

The aim of our work is to improve the existing user-exoskeleton models by introducing a simulation architecture that can simulate its dynamic interaction, thereby altering the initial motion of the user. A simulation architecture is developed that uses the musculoskeletal models from OpenSim, and that implements an exoskeleton control algorithm and human response model in matlab. The musculoskeletal models need to be extended with the response of a user to external forces to simulate the dy- namic interaction. A set of experiments was performed to fit this response model. A validation test showed that more than 80% of the variance of the motion could be explained. With the human response model in the combined simulation architecture, a simulation in which an object connects with the exoskeleton or with the human is performed. The effect of the exoskeleton on, among others, muscle excitation and altered motion can be assessed with this architecture. Our work can be used to better predict the effect an exoskeleton has on the user.

This paper presents new estimates of the development of the urban population and the urbanization ratio for the period spanning the Song and late Qing dynasties. Urbanization is viewed, as in much of the economic historical literature on the topic, as an indirect indicator of economic development and structural change. The development of the urban system can therefore tell us a lot about long-term trends in the Chinese economy between 1100 and 1900. During the Song, the level of urbanization was high, also by international standards—the capital cities of the Song were probably the largest cities in the world. This remained so until the late ming, but during the Qing there was a downward trend in the level of urbanization from 11%-12% to 7% in the late 18th century, a level at which it remained until the early 1900s. In our paper we analyse the role that socio-political and economic causes played in this decline, such as the changing character of the Chinese state, the limited impact of overseas trade on the urban system, and the apparent absence of the dynamic economic effects that were characteristic for the european urban system.

LHP1 Interacts with ATRX through Plant-Specific Domains at Specific Loci Targeted by PRC2

Heterochromatin Protein 1 （HP1） is a major regulator of chromatin structure and function. In animals, the network of proteins interacting with HP1 is mainly associated with constitutive heterochromatin marked by H3K9me3. HP1 physically interacts with the putative ortholog of the SNF2 chromatin remodeler ATRX, which controls deposition of histone variant H3.3 in mammals. In this study, we show that the Arabidopsis thaliana ortholog of ATRX participates in H3.3 deposition and possesses specific conserved domains in plants. We found that plant Like HP1 （LHP1） protein interacts with ATRX through domains that evolved specifically in land plant ancestors. Loss of ATRX function in Arabidopsis affects the expression of a limited subset of genes controlled by PRC2 （POLYCOmB RePReSSIVe COmPLeX 2）, including the flowering time regulator FLC. The function of ATRX in regulation of flowering time requires novel LHPl-interacting domain and ATPase activity of the ATRX SNF2 helicase domain. Taken together, these results suggest that distinct evolutionary pathways led to the interaction between ATRX and HP1 in mammals and its counterpart LHP1 in plants, resulting in distinct modes of transcriptional regulation.

Ba-Ree fluorcarbonate minerals from a carbonatite dyke at Bayan Obo, Inner mongolia, North China, are first reported in this contribution, in which chemical composition, rare earth element (Ree) patterns, and intergrowth relationships for these minerals have been investigated. Syntactic intergrowth or syntaxy between cebaite and cordylite, as well as cordylite and huanghoite were observed. This syntactic texture resulted from the variation of chemical composition of crystallizing agents for those minerals that crystallized directly from carbonatite magmas. It is worth noting that Ree patterns of the Ba-Ree fluorcarbonate minerals in the dyke are similar to those of the corresponding minerals from the ore hosted dolomite marble of the Bayan Obo giant Ree-Nb-Fe mineral deposit, which implies their relation in origin.

Protective effects of Lycopene on Furan-treated Diabetic and Non-diabetic Rat Lung

We assessed the effects of furan and lycopene on the histopathological and biochemical changes on lungs, body and lung weights, and food consumption of rats. Furan and diabetes caused histopathological changes, increment in malondialdehyde levels, and decrease in antioxidant enzyme activities. Lycopene showed a protective effect against these damages, except for glutathione-S-transferase and glutathione peroxidase activities. Consequently, furan and diabetes resulted in lung toxicity. Our findings demonstrate that furan treatment resulted in more alterations in histology and biochemical parameters in diabetic rats and lycopene showed protective effects against these alterations.
