Nature-based coastal protection is increasingly recognised as a potentially sustainable and cost-effective solution to reduce coastal flood *** uses coastal ecosystems such as mangrove forests to create resilient designs for coastal flood ***,to use mangroves effectively as a nature-based measure for flood risk reduction,we must understand the biophysical processes that govern risk reduction capacity through mangrove ecosystem size and *** this perspective,we evaluate the current state of knowledge on local physical drivers and ecological processes that determine mangrove functioning as part of a nature-based flood *** show that the forest properties that comprise coastal flood protection are well-known,but models cannot yet pinpoint how spatial heterogeneity of the forest structure affects the capacity for wave or surge ***,there is relatively good understanding of the ecological processes that drive forest structure and size,but there is a lack of knowledge on how daily bed-level dynamics link to long-term biogeomorphic forest dynamics,and on the role of combined stressors influencing forest *** simulation models of forest structure under changing physical(*** to sea-level change)and ecological drivers with hydrodynamic attenuation models will allow for better projections of long-term natural coastal protection.

BACKgROUND Splanchnic vein thrombosis(SVT)is a major complication of moderate and severe acute *** is no consensus on whether therapeutic anticoagulation should be started in patients with acute pancreatitis and *** To gain insight into current opinions and clinical decision making of pancreatologists regarding SVT in acute *** A total of 139 pancreatologists of the Dutch Pancreatitis Study group and Dutch Pancreatic Cancer group were approached to complete an online survey and case vignette *** threshold to assume group agreement was set at 75%.RESULTS The response rate was 67%(n=93).Seventy-one pancreatologists(77%)regularly prescribed therapeutic anticoagulation in case of SVT,and 12 pancreatologists(13%)for narrowing of splanchnic vein *** most common reason to treat SVT was to avoid complications(87%).Acute thrombosis was the most important factor to prescribe therapeutic anticoagulation(90%).Portal vein thrombosis was chosen as the most preferred location to initiate therapeutic anticoagulation(76%)and splenic vein thrombosis as the least preferred location(86%).The preferred initial agent was low molecular weight heparin(LMWH;87%).In the case vignettes,therapeutic anticoagulation was prescribed for acute portal vein thrombosis,with or without suspected infected necrosis(82%and 90%),and thrombus progression(88%).Agreement was lacking regarding the selection and duration of long-term anticoagulation,the indication for thrombophilia testing and upper endoscopy,and about whether risk of bleeding is a major barrier for therapeutic *** In this national survey,the pancreatologists seemed to agree on the use of therapeutic anticoagulation,using LMWH in the acute phase,for acute portal thrombosis and in the case of thrombus progression,irrespective of the presence of infected necrosis.

目的:吸力式基础具有投资费用低、施工时间短、无噪音和可重复使用等优点,因此被广泛应用在海洋工程领域。本文针对吸力式基础设计中的关键问题,主要综述现有设计理论,指出理论缺陷,并给出设计建议。创新点:综述砂土、粘土和成层土中吸力式基础的安装、回收、基础承载力、基础沉降和服役性能中的关键科学问题和现有设计理论。方法:1.基于文献报道的现场试验和模型试验,针对吸力式基础安装过程中的沉贯阻力、临界吸力和土塞效应,评估现有设计理论的准确性;2.分析粘土和砂土中吸力式基础的完全排水、完全不排水和部分排水条件下静力和循环承载力计算理论;3.针对吸力式基础的长期服役性能,分析荷载引起的基础变形、固结沉降、循环再固结沉降和极端荷载下的"棘轮效应"。结论:1.现有的吸力式基础安装中沉贯阻力计算理论没有普适性;对于临界吸力的计算,由于没有考虑"土拱效应",理论计算值均低估了安装吸力。2.对于粘土中吸力式基础承载力的计算需要考虑循环作用下土体的强度弱化和基础-土间空隙引起的承载力降低,而砂土中基础承载力计算需要考虑排水条件的影响。3.对于吸力式基础的长期服役性能,特别是基础变形的计算,目前还缺少成熟的计算理论。

Triassic (Anisian and Rhaetian) palaeomagnetic poles from the germanic basin (Winterswijk, the Netherlands)

In this paper,we provide two new Triassic palaeomagnetic poles from Winterswijk,the Netherlands,in the stable interior of the Eurasian *** were respectively collected from the Anisian(~247–242 Ma)red marly limestones of the sedimentary transition of the Buntsandstein Formation to the dark grey limestones of the basal Muschelkalk Formation,and from the Rhaetian(~208–201 Ma)shallow marine claystones that unconformably overlie the Muschelkalk *** magnetization is carried by hematite or magnetite in the Anisian limestones,and iron sulfides and magnetite in the Rhaetian sedimentary rocks,revealing for both a large normal polarity overprint with a recent(geocentric axial dipole field)direction at the present latitude of the *** field and thermal demagnetization occasionally reveal a stable magnetization decaying towards the origin,interpreted as the Characteristic Remanent *** we find a pervasive(normal polarity)overprint,we can often still determine well-defined great-circle *** interpreted palaeomagnetic poles include the great-circle *** Anisian magnetic pole has declination D±ΔDx=210.8±3.0°,inclination I±ΔIx=-26.7±4.9°,with a latitude,longitude of 45.0°,142.0°respectively,K=43.9,A95=2.9°,N=*** Rhaetian magnetic pole has declination D±ΔDx=32.0±8.7°,inclination I±ΔIx=50.9±8.1°,with a latitude,longitude of 60.6°,123.9°respectively,K=19.3,A95=7.4°,N=*** poles plot close to the predicted location of global apparent polar wander paths(gAPWa Ps)in Eurasian coordinates and are feasible for future apparent polar wander path *** confirm that the intracontinental,shallow-marine germanic basin,in which the Muschelkalk Formation was deposited,existed at a palaeolatitude of 14.1°[11.3,17.1]N,in a palaeo-environment reminding of the Persian gulf *** Rhaetian times,palaeolatitudes of 31.6°[24.8,39.8]N were reached,on its way to the modern latitude of 52°N.

Background There is increasing epidemiological evidence supporting the association between onchocerciasis and seizures, reinforcing the concept of onchocerciasis-associated epilepsy (OAE). The aim of this paper is to provide an update on the new knowledge about OAE and to propose recommendations to the World Health Organization how to address this public health *** text During the 2nd International Workshop on OAE held on 19-21 September, 2023, in Antwerp, Belgium, participants recognised OAE as a substantial yet neglected public health problem, particularly in areas of sub-Saharan Africa where onchocerciasis remains hyperendemic. Evidence from prospective population-based studies suggest that strengthening onchocerciasis elimination efforts leads to a significant reduction of OAE incidence. There is a need to validate an OAE case definition to estimate the burden of disease and identify onchocerciasis-endemic areas requiring intensification of onchocerciasis elimination programmes and integration of epilepsy care. It is expected that raising awareness about OAE will boost the population uptake of ivermectin. The implementation of a community-based epilepsy treatment programme offering free anti-seizure medications (ASMs) has shown high effectiveness in reducing the frequency of seizures and improving the overall quality of life of people with *** To reduce OAE burden, enhanced collaboration between onchocerciasis and mental health programmes at community, national, and international levels is required. Urgent efforts are needed to ensure the uninterrupted provision of free ASMs in onchocerciasis-endemic areas. Furthermore, OAE should be included in the quantification of the onchocerciasis disease burden.

BACKgROUND Implementation of new diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes mellitus(gDM)are still a subject of debate,mostly due to concerns regarding the effects on the number of women diagnosed with gDM and the risk profile of the women newly *** To estimate the impact of the World Health Organization(WHO)2013 criteria compared with the WHO 1999 criteria on the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus as well as to determine the diagnostic accuracy for detecting adverse pregnancy *** We retrospectively analyzed a single center Dutch cohort of 3338 women undergoing a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test where the WHO 1999 criteria to diagnose gDM were clinically *** were categorized into four groups:non-gDM by both criteria,gDM by WHO 1999 only(excluded from gDM),gDM by WHO 2013 only(newly diagnosed)and gDM by both *** compared maternal characteristics,pregnancy outcomes and likelihood ratios for adverse pregnancy *** Retrospectively applying the WHO 2013 criteria increased the cohort incidence by 13.1%,from 19.3%to 32.4%.Discordant diagnoses occurred in 21.3%;4.1%would no longer be labelled as gDM,and 17.2%were newly *** to the non-gDM group,women newly diagnosed were older,had higher rates of obesity,higher diastolic blood pressure and higher rates of caesarean *** infants were more often delivered preterm,large-for-gestational-age and were at higher risk of a 5 min Apgar scoregDM were older and had similar pregnancy outcomes compared to the non-gDM group,except for higher rates of shoulder dystocia(4.3%vs 1.3%,P=0.015).Positive likelihood ratios for adverse outcomes in all groups were generally low,ranging from 0.54 to *** Applying the WHO 2013 criteria would result in a substantial increase in gDM *** diagnosed women are at increased risk for pregnancy adverse *** risk,however,seems to be lower than those identified by the

A geochemical Study of an REE-rich Carbonatite Dyke at Bayan Obo,Inner Mongolia,Northern China

An REE-rich carbonatite dyke was found in Dulahala, close to the Bayan Obo superlarge REE-Nb-Fe mineral deposit in Inner Mongolia, northern China. The REE content in the dyke varies greatly, from 1% up to 20% (wt), which might constitute rich REE ores. Light REEs in the carbonatite are enriched and highly fractionated relative to heavy REEs and there is no Eu anomaly. The REE and trace element distribution patterns of the carbonatite are identical to those of fine-grained dolomite marble which is the host rock of the Bayan Obo REE-Nb-Fe superlarge mineral deposit. This indicates a petrogenetic linkage between the REE-rich carbonatite and the mineralizations in this region.

Determining the most suitable intensities for precommercial thinning (PCT) in oriental beech (Fagus orientalis) stands, which cover substantial areas in Turkey and have a high economic and ecological value, is essential to provide higher economic return and obtain well-formed stems. The effects of various rates of PCT interventions on the growth characteristics of natural stands, located in the northern part of Turkey, were explored to determine appropriate thinning rates;24 experimental PCT plots (4 PCT rates × 3 replications × 2 sites) were established in young thicket-stage stands and four precommercial thinning rates such as light (1 – 1.5 m spacing), moderate (1.5−2.0 m spacing) and heavy (2.5–3.0 m spacing) thinning, including a control plot (i.e., untreated), were applied. At the end of the 2007 and 2010 growing seasons, the diameter and height of the trees were measured and growth analyzed based on the 3-year and 6-year incremental growth. PCT levels were found to have significant (P ght, total basal area and total volume increment at the end of each period. The mean diameter and height increment proportionally increased with increasing PCT intensity in the third and the sixth year. In both sites, the moderate PCT provided the greatest total basal area and total volume increment. The early results indicate that the moderate PCT (1.5–2 m spacing) boosted stand development over time.
