Retained foreign bodies are commonly seen in both the emergency department (ED) and the outpatient setting.^([1,2])The associated complications include inflammation,delayed healing,infection,damage to surrounding tissues,and disability.^([3,4])While most foreign bodies are locatable during an extensive wound-probing physical exam,they can be missed even when a welltrained clinician performs a thorough history and physical exam.^([5])Therefore,they are often a cause of malpractice litigations in the ED.

Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a benign neoplasm that develops from the constituent elements of the prostate. It is a common age-related condition, with more than 50% of men over 50 years old exhibiting symptoms indicative of BPH. It is the main cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, descriptive and longitudinal study over a six-month period from December 15, 2023, to May 15, 2024. All patients admitted for BPH and who received medication treatment during this period were included in the study. Results: The average age of patients was 65.4 years, with the 60 to 69-year age group being the most represented (37.18%). There was no statistical link between the level of education and the occurrence of erection dysfunction ED. 66.67% of patients suffered from ED before treatment. Age was a major risk factor. 94.87% of patients were treated with Alpha-blockers due to their tolerance and effectiveness. 14.10% of patients had a history of inguinal herniorrhaphy, often due to the strain of urination and physical labor. 46.16% of patients had hypertension. No significant link was found between comorbidities and ED. 38.45% of patients consumed tobacco or alcohol. Tobacco was a significant risk factor for ED. 57.67% of patients suffered from ED after treatment, indicating an improvement compared to 66.67% before treatment. However, 24.36% did not ejaculate during sexual intercourse. Conclusion: Medication treatment is the first-line treatment for BPH. However, it can lead to retrograde ejaculation, negatively impacting ejaculatory function. The results showed that the treatment improves patients’ sexuality (IIEF-5 score), but age and tobacco consumption increase the risk of sexual dysfunction.

The general objective of our study was to describe the clinical and epidemiological aspects of anxiety disorders. This was a retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study, lasting 5 years, from January 01, 2019 to December 31, 2023, on 225 patients seen in consultation for anxiety disorders in the department. The prevalence of anxiety disorders was 2.5% in consultation. The 20 - 29 age group was the most represented at 33.3%. Females were slightly represented at 55.1%, with a sex ratio of 1.2. The secondary level was the most affected, accounting for 36.4% of cases. Insomnia was the most frequent reason for consultation, accounting for 71.1% of cases. A larger general population study would be necessary to better assess the extent of anxiety disorders in Guinea.

Introduction: Foreign bodies (FB) in the lower airways (LAs) constitute a potentially life-threatening emergency requiring immediate management. The objective of our study was to describe the patient pathway and management of foreign bodies in the lower airways. Methodology: This was a descriptive study with retrospective data collection conducted over a 6-year period (January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2019) in the ENT and Head and Neck Surgery Department of Donka National Hospital. Results: We observed a prevalence of 1.79%. The average age was 5.71 years, with a sex ratio of 1.2. However, 82.61% of the cases originated from rural areas. We noted that 78.83% of patients were referred after visiting 1 to 2 healthcare facilities (75.36%). The consultation delay was 3 days. Penetration syndrome was present in 98.56% of cases. The foreign body incidents occurred during play in 54.84% and during meals in 29.09% of cases. Radiographs were performed in 93.9% of cases. Endoscopy was used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in all patients. The foreign bodies were located in the trachea (37.68%), larynx (26.08%), and bronchi (21.73%). Non-organic foreign bodies were predominant (52.17%). Postoperative outcomes were uncomplicated in 95.98% of cases, and the lethality rate was 2.85%. Conclusion: The pathway of patients with foreign bodies in the airways remains unpredictable in our context due to parental hesitations. Early management reduces morbidity and mortality rates.

In recent years, there have been a significant number of demonstrations of small metallic and plasmonic lasers. The vast majority of these demonstrations have been for optically pumped devices. Electrically pumped devices are advantageous for applications and could demonstrate concepts not amenable for optical pumping. However, there have been relatively few demonstrations of electrically pumped small metal cavity lasers. This lack of results is due to the following reasons： there are limited types of electrically pumped gain media available; there is a significantly greater level of complexity required in the fabrication of electrically pumped devices; finally, the required components for electrical pumping restrict cavity design options and furthermore make it intrinsically more difficult to achieve lasing. This review looks at the motivation for electrically pumped nanolasers, the key issues that need addressing for them to be realized, the results that have been achieved so far including devices where lasing has not been achieved, and potential new directions that could be pursued.

Introduction: Cardiac rehabilitation is defined as a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to secondary prevention. Its main components include patient assessment (exercise capacity, ventricular function and the existence or risk of arrhythmias), therapeutic education and control of cardiovascular risk factors, optimization of drug therapy, psychosocial support and, of course, personalized physical training. Method: The Basse Terre hospital department served as the setting for this study. All patients admitted to the department for cardiac rehabilitation were our target population. All patients operated on and admitted to the cardiology department for cardiac rehabilitation constituted our study population. A pre-established survey form and patient records were used to collect data. Ethical principles and patient confidentiality were paramount. Results: The prevalence was 13%. The mean age of our patients was 59.66 ± 12.9 years. Valve replacement was 25%;coronary artery bypass grafting was 75%;Kardégic 83.33%, CHBT protocol 83.33%, muscle fatigue 66.66%. 58.33% had 3 - 8 Watts at initial assessment and ≥15 Watts at final assessment. 8.33% atrial dilatation, and 16.66% segmental hypokinesia. 8.33% VO2 and ESV and Q necrosis. Conclusion: Exercise testing is a reliable means of assessing patients’ functional capacity.

Introduction: Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) is a sleep-related breathing disorder characterized by repeated episodes of partial obstruction of the upper airways (hypopnea) and/or intermittent complete obstruction (apnea). Our aim is to study the role of adeno-tonsillectomy in the management of OSAHS in children. Methodology: This was a prospective descriptive study conducted in the ENT-Head and Neck Surgery department of Ignace Deen National Hospital over a six-month period. We included in our study all patients aged 0 to 15 years, presenting with OSAHS of ENT etiology and who had undergone tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy. Results: The frequency of OSAHS was 13%. The mean age of our patients was 5.1 ± 3.8 years. There was a predominance of males (69.6%) with a sex ratio of 2.28. Snoring (98.6%), nasal obstruction (97.1%), and mouth breathing (96.6%) were the main reasons for consultation. Adeno-tonsillectomy (45.4%) was the primary surgical intervention. Almost all children (99.0%) had a simple postoperative course. Conclusion: OSAHS is a condition with a multifactorial etiology. Adeno-tonsillectomy remains the first-line surgical treatment to prevent severe complications and relieve the patient. Multidisciplinary collaboration is essential in the management of OSAHS.

Full-Depth Reclamation （FDR） is a sustainable method of building pavement structure compared to more traditional rehabilitation methods. Traffic is generally returned to an FDR project before a surface course is applied, as water in the FDR needs time to evaporate from the structure. This should not be done too quickly or raveling occurs. Currently, there is no test to quantify the timing of return to traffic. In this study, the ＂Raveling test of cold mixed bituminous emulsion samples＂（ASTM D7196） was used to compare asphalt emulsion and asphalt foam FDR. Asphalt emulsion samples were cured at ambient and 40℃ temperatures, while asphalt foam samples were cured at ambient temperatures. Raveling test data was collected from 0 to 48 hours of curing, however, samples were often not able to withstand fifteen minutes of testing. Therefore, the ＂time lasted＂（the time the raveling head loses contact with the surface of the sample） was recorded. In general, the asphalt emulsion samples that were cured in the oven at 40℃ had a longer time lasted and showed higher potential for determination of return to traffic. In addition, the asphalt emulsion samples had a longer time lasted than the asphalt foam samples at ambient temperatures.
