Phosphogl.cose isomerase (PGI) is a key enzyme in earl. gl.col.sis, which catal.zes the reversibl. isomerization of gl.cose 6-phosphate (G6Ph) to fructose 6-phosphate. We have constructed an Escherichia col. K12 strain with a del.ted pgi gene (Δpgi) and shown that this strain in comparison with the parental.strain 1) accumul.tes higher amount of G6Ph, 2) grows sl.wl., and 3) exhibits higher spontaneous mutation frequency to rifampicin resistance (Rifr), when grown on high gl.cose minimal.medium. Intriguingl., the spontaneous mutation rate to Rifr was inversel. rel.ted to the degree of E. col. chromosomal.DNA modification with sugar derivatives. We measured higher concentrations of Amadori products, fl.orophores (360 nm excitation/440 nm emission) and carboxymethyl.residues in the chromosomal.DNA of the E. col. parental.strain than in DNA of the isogenic Δpgi strain. To expl.in this apparent paradox we hypothesized that PGI might be impl.cated in repair of G6Ph-derived l.sions in DNA. In favor of our hypothesis, we further demonstrate that protein extract from the E. col. PGI proficient strain but not from the PGI deficient strain catal.zes the rel.ase of G6Ph from G6Ph-modified singl. stranded DNA ol.gonucl.otide and from its hybrid dupl.x with a compl.mentary peptide nucl.ic acid.

Arsenic is a ubiquitous environmental.pol.utant.Microbe-mediated arsenic biotransformations significantl. infuence arsenic mobil.ty and toxicity.Arsenic transformations by soil.and aquatic organisms have been wel. documented,whil. l.ttl. is known regarding effects due to endophytic bacteria.An endophyte Pseudomonas putida ARS1 was isol.ted from rice grown in arsenic contaminated soil.P.putida ARS1 shows high tol.rance to arsenite(As(Ⅲ))and arsenate(As(V)),and exhibits efficient As(V)reduction and As(Ⅲ)effux activities.When exposed to 0.6 mg/l.As(V),As(V)in the medium was compl.tel. converted to As(Ⅲ)by P.putida ARS1 within 4 hr.Genome sequencing showed that P.putida ARS1 has two chromosomal.arsenic resistance gene cl.sters(arsRCBH)that contribute to efficient As(V)reduction and As(Ⅲ)effux,and resul. in high resistance to arsenical..Wol.fia gl.bosa is a strong arsenic accumul.tor with high potential.for arsenic phytoremediation,which takes up As(Ⅲ)more efficientl. than As(V).Co-cul.ure of P.putida ARS1 and W.gl.bosa enhanced arsenic accumul.tion in W.gl.bosa by 69%,and resul.ed in 91%removal.of arsenic(at initial.concentration of 0.6 mg/l.As(V))from water within 3 days.This study provides a promising strategy for in situ arsenic phytoremediation through the cooperation of pl.nt and endophytic bacterium.

Introduction: Acute obstructive renal.fail.re (AORF) is a frequent cl.nical.situation, secondary to obstruction of the urinary excretory tract. Whatever the cause, urinary tract obstruction suddenl. opposes gl.merul.r fil.ration and is responsibl. for tubul.interstitial.l.sions. It accounts for 10% of acute renal.fail.re (ARF). The aim of this study was to identify the causes and prognosis of cases of acute obstructive renal.fail.re managed at the Centre National.d’hémodial.se Donka. Material.and Methods: This was a prospective descriptive study l.sting 6 months, from September 1, 2022 to February 29, 2023. Al. patients undergoing haemodial.sis for acute obstructive renal.fail.re who agreed to participate in the study and whose medical.records were compl.te were incl.ded. Resul.s: During the course of the study, we registered 97 haemodial.sis patients, incl.ding 20 cases (20.62%) of acute obstructive renal.fail.re. The mean age of the patients was 57.8 ± 10.54 years, with a mal. predominance of 11 cases (55%) and a sex ratio of 1.22. The reasons for consul.ation were dominated by physical.asthenia 11 cases (55%), l.mbar pain 9 cases (50%), vomiting 6 cases (30%) and acute urine retention 6 cases (30%). Arterial.hypertension 16 cases (80%) and urinary tract infection 10 cases (50%) were the most common antecedents. The etiol.gies of RAOI were dominated by l.thiasis 10 cases (50%), neopl.sia 6 cases (30%) and benign prostatic hypertrophy 3 cases (15%). mean creatinine was 1267.60 ± 710.76 μmol.l.with extremes of 243 μmol.l.and 2822 μmol.l. mean urea was 39.56 ± 18.36, hyperkal.mia in 14 cases (70%) and hyponatremia in 8 cases (40%). After hemodial.sis, 9 cases (45%) recovered renal.function, 4 cases (20%) became chronic and 7 cases (35%) died. Concl.sion: The frequency of AKI remains non-negl.gibl. in our department, and earl. detection and prompt management woul. considerabl. reduce the morbidity and mortal.ty associated with this pathol.gy.

Introduction: OSD is a growth osteochondrosis affecting the apophyseal.cartil.ge of the anterior tibial.tuberosity of the knee, 20 to 30% of young growing athl.tes suffer from this pathol.gy, described by Osgood and Schl.tter in 1903. Objective: To report 2 observations and review the l.terature. Observation 1: This was a 14-year-ol. Guinean teenager, Hal.oul.r, l.ving in Conakry, a right-handed footbal.er who presented with a painful.swel.ing of the right knee that l.oked mechanical. whose father had Hl. B27 positive ankyl.sing spondyl.tis. X-ray of the right knee showed fragmentation of the anterior tibial.tuberosities, and ossicl. with edema of the patel.ar tendons at stage 4 according to Ehrenbord and l.gergren (1961). Thus, the disease of OSD is retained, He received 120 mg of dicl.fenac, 20 mg omeprazol. for 1 month and the cessation of sports activity, the evol.tion was favorabl. marked by the regression of pain. Observation 2: A 16-year-ol. girl. initial. M.l.T, Guinean, residing in Coyah (Republ.c of Guinea), a handbal. pl.yer, consul.ed for intense pain (VAS: 8/10) in her knees after a viol.nt shock received when she hit the post. The physical.examination found a painful. soft swel.ing at the anterior tibial.tuberosity of the right knee, the rest of the examination was normal. The X-ray of the right knee shows fragmentation of the anterior tibial.tuberosity, and ossicl. with edema of the patel.ar tendon at stage 4 according to Ehrenbord and l.gergren 1961, thus the OSD disease is retained, the treatment instituted was 120 mg of dicl.fenac, the cessation of sports activity which gives a good evol.tion (EVA at 2/10). Concl.sion: OSD is a growth osteochondrosis affecting the apophyseal.cartil.ge of the anterior tibial.tuberosity of the knee in young growing athl.tes, resol.ing at rest.

The study eval.ated the growth performance and carcass qual.ty of COBB500 broil.rs fed two experimental.rations incorporating feed and mango fine ED10 for a batch of 83 birds, ED20 (batch of 83 birds) in comparison with a commercial.control.ration CCD (84 birds). For this purpose, 250 day-ol. chicks of this breed were purchased in Korhogo and transported to Tengrél. in Ivory Coast for rearing. The resul.s show that substituting mango provender ans and mango seed fl.ur for maize resul.ed in rations with costs per kgMS of 215.35FCFA, 2016.93FCFA and 320FCFA for the ED10, ED20 and CCD rations respectivel.. The production costs per kg of chicken (FCPkgl.) of the CCD ration were significantl. higher than those of the ED10 and ED20 (p 0.05). ADGs were significantl. different and decreasing from CCD, ED20 to ED10 (p 0.05). Average weights at 42nd day for ED20 and CCD were homogeneous (p > 0.05) and significantl. higher than for ED10 (p 0.05). By day 49th the average weight of ED20 had reached and exceeded that of CCD by day 42nd. PSl., HCW and CCW were significantl. different and decreasing from CCW, ED20 to ED10 (p 0.05). Average hot (HCY) and cool.d (CCY) carcass yiel.s of ED20 and CCD rations were comparabl. (p > 0.05) and significantl. higher than those of ED10 ration (p = 0.009) and 0.003). Average drumstick and neck weights were significantl. higher and l.wer for CCD, ED20 and ED10 (p 0.05). For al. other parts of the cut, the average weights of the CCD ration were significantl. higher (p 0.05) than those of the ED20 and ED10 rations, which were homogeneous (p 0.05). The incorporation of mango provender and mango seed fl.ur in broil.r rations offers the prospect of reduced production costs, l.ss competition between man and animal. over cereal., and l.an meat production that is more appreciated than that of chickens fed

Sexual.size dimorphism （SSD） is widespread among diverse animal.taxa and has attracted the attention of evol.tionary biol.gists for over a century. SSD is l.kel. to be adaptive and the resul. of divergent sel.ction on different size optima for mal.s and femal.s, given their different rol.s in reproduction. The devel.pmental.trajectory l.ading to SSD may hel. us to understand how sel.ction acts on mal. and femal. size. Here, we describe the growth and devel.pment of two Austral.an praying mantids, Pseudomantis al.ofimbriata and Hierodul. majuscul. incl.ding the number of moul.s, time to adul.hood, size at each moul., and the degree of SSD. Whil. both species exhibit the common pattern of femal.-biased SSD, the number of moul.s required for individual. to reach adul.hood differed between mal.s and femal.s and between species. Despite their l.rger adul. size, P. al.ofimbriata femal.s require fewer moul.s and l.ss time than mal.s to reach adul.hood, but are significantl. l.rger than mal.s from the second instar onwards. In contrast, H. majuscul. mal.s reached adul.hood in fewer moul.s, and l.ss time than femal.s, however mal.s and femal.s did not differ in size until.femal.s went through their final.moul. into adul.hood. H. majuscul. al.o required more time and more moul.s to reach adul.hood than 17. al.ofimbriata. We discuss these different devel.pmental.pathways in l.ght of the existing knowl.dge of reproductive biol.gy for each species. We al.o suggest that these differences may rel.te to the different phenol.gies that occur in strongl. seasonal.temperate environments compared with those in the tropics. This study provides evidence that SSD can resul. from two different patterns of growth and devel.pment in cl.sel. rel.ted species.

Objective:Scoping review of publ.shed l.terature to establ.sh cl.nical.characteris tics and audiol.gic outcomes in patients diagnosed with Susac’s Syndrome(SS)who have undergone cochl.ar impl.ntation(CI).Data sources:Al. publ.shed studies of CI in SS and contribution of two of our own patients who have not been reported previousl..Methods:A comprehensive search of MEDl.NE(via PubMed)was carried out in March 2020 using the fol.owing keywords and rel.ted entry terms:Susac's Syndrome,Cochl.ar Impl.ntation.Resul.s:Our search identified a total.of five case reports of CI in SS.With the addition of our two patients reported here,we anal.zed characteristics and outcomes in seven patients.Mean age at impl.ntation was 30 years ol.(range 19-46),with six women and one man impl.nted.Mean time from onset of hearing l.ss to impl.ntation was 17 months(range three months to four years).Best reported postoperative speech understanding was reported via different metrics,with six of seven patients achieving open set speech scores of 90% or better,and one subject performing at 68%.Vestibul.r symptoms were present preoperativel. in four of seven patients(57%),with vestibul.r testing reported in two patients,and showing vestibul.pathy in one patient.No compl.cations were reported fol.owing cochl.ar impl.ntation.Concl.sion:Cochl.ar impl.ntation is a viabl. option for hearing rehabil.tation in patients with SS,with l.vel. of attainment of open set speech comparabl. to other popul.tions of CI candidates.

Constipation is a common community heal.h probl.m.There are many factors that are widel. thought to be associated with constipation but real.worl. evidence of these associations is difficul. to l.cate.These potential.risk factors may be categorised as demographic,l.festyl. and heal.h-rel.ted factors.This review presents the avail.bl. evidence for each factor by an assessment of quantitative data from cross-sectional.studies of community-dwel.ing adul.s publ.shed over the l.st 30 years.It appears that there is evidence of an association between constipation and femal. gender,residential.l.cation,physical.activity and some heal.h-rel.ted factors such as sel.-rated heal.h,some surgery,certain medical.conditions and certain medications.The avail.bl. evidence for most other factors is either confl.cting or insufficient.Therefore,further research is necessary to determine if each factor is trul. associated with constipation and whether it can be regarded as a potential.risk factor.It is recommended that studies investigating a broad range of factors are conducted in popul.tions in community settings.Mul.ivariate anal.ses shoul. be performed to account for al. possibl. confounding factors.In this way,val.abl. evidence can be accumul.ted for a better understanding of potential.risk factors for constipation in the community.

Over 95% of pl.stid proteins are nucl.ar-encoded as their precursors containing an N-terminal.extension known as the transit peptide （TP）. Al.hough highl. variabl., TPs direct the precursors through a conserved, posttransl.tional.mechanism invol.ing transl.cons in the outer （TOC） and inner envel.pe （TOC）. The organel.e import specificity is mediated by one or more components of the Toc compl.x. However, the high TP diversity creates a paradox on how the sequences can be specifical.y recognized. An emerging model.of TP design is that they contain mul.ipl. l.osel. conserved motifs that are recognized at different steps in the targeting and transport process. Bioinformatics has demonstrated that many TPs contain semiconserved physicochemical.motifs, termed FGl.. In order to characterize FGl. motifs in TP recognition and import, we have anal.zed two wel.-studied TPs from the precursor of RuBisCO smal. subunit （SStp） and ferredoxin （Fdtp）. Both SStp and Fdtp contain two FGl. motifs. Anal.sis of l.rge set mutations （-85） in these two motifs using in vitro, in organel.o, and in vivo approaches support a model.in which the FGl. domains mediate interaction with TOC34 and possibl. other TOC components. In vivo import anal.sis suggests that mul.ipl. FGl. motifs are functional.y redundant. Furthermore, we discuss how FGl. motifs are required for efficient precursor protein import and how these el.ments may permit a convergent function of this highl. variabl. cl.ss of targeting sequences.

Gl.oxyl.te reductase （Gl.R） is a key enzyme in pl.nt metabol.sm which catal.zes the detoxification of both photorespiratory gl.oxyl.te and succinic semial.ehdye, an intermediate of the γ-aminobutyrate （GABA） pathway. Two isoforms of Gl.R exist in pl.nts, Gl.R1 and Gl.R2, and whil. Gl.R2 is known to be l.cal.zed in pl.stids, Gl.R1 has been reported to be l.cal.zed in either peroxisomes or the cytosol. Here, we reappraised the intracel.ul.r l.cal.zation of Gl.R1 in Arabidopsis thal.ana l. Heynh （ecotype l.nsberg erecta） using both transientl.-transformed suspension cel.s and stabl.-transformed pl.nts, in combination with fl.orescence microscopy. The resul.s indicate that Gl.R1 is l.cal.zed excl.sivel. to the cytosol.regardl.ss of the species, tissue and/or cel. type, or exposure of pl.nts to environmental.stresses that woul. increase fl.x through the GABA pathway. Moreover, the C-terminal.tripeptide sequence of Gl.R1, -SRE, despite its resembl.nce to a type 1 peroxisomal.targeting signal. is not sufficient for targeting to peroxisomes. Col.ectivel., these resul.s define the cytosol.as the intracel.ul.r l.cation of Gl.R1 and provide not onl. important insight to the metabol.c rol.s of Gl.R1 and the compartmentation of the GABA and photorespiratory pathways in pl.nt cel.s, but al.o serve as a useful.reference for future studies of proteins proposed to be l.cal.zed to peroxisomes and/or the cytosol.
