Substrate-based galvanic replacement reactions carried out on heteroepitaxially formed silver templates

Galvanic replacement reactions have been widely used to transform solution dispersed silver template structures into intricate nanoshell geometries. Here, we report on the use of these same reactions to form hollow substrate-supported Au-Ag nanoshells from silver templates having a heteroepitaxial relationship with the underlying single crystal substrate. The structures obtained exhibit a nanohut geometry, show highly tunable plasmonic properties and are formed as periodic arrays using a lithography-free technique. When removed from the substrate the inverted nanohuts appear as nanobowls with a notch in the rim. The study lays the groundwork for wafer-based devices utilizing nanoshells located at site-specific locations.

Introduction:An assessment of whether rehabilitated mine sites have resulted in natural or novel ecosystems requires monitoring over considerable periods of time or the use of space-for-time substitution(chronosequence)***:To provide an assessment of ecosystem recovery in areas mined for bauxite in 1975,the ant fauna of one area planted with Eucalyptus resinifera,one seeded with mixed native species,one topsoiled but unrestored,and a forest reference was subjected to a‘long-term’study by sampling monthly and latterly annually between 1976 and 1989 using pitfall *** plots were resampled in 2012.A companion‘short-term’chronosequence study was performed in 1979 in 28 bauxite mines of various ages and restored by a range of different methods,plus three forest *** order to examine the assertion that the observed differences between restored areas and forest references will lessen with time,sampling using comparable methods was repeated in 2012 in seven of the original plots,representing progressive advances in rehabilitation technology:planted pines;planted eastern states eucalypts;planted native eucalypts;planted eucalypts over seeded understorey;and planted eucalypts on fresh,double-stripped topsoil,plus two forest reference ***:Ant and other invertebrate richness in the long-term study was initially superior in the seeded plot,with little difference between the planted and unplanted *** was concluded that although composition of the ant fauna had converged on that of the forest over the 14-year period,differences still *** 2012 resampling revealed that ant species richness and composition had deteriorated in the seeded plot,while values in the unplanted plot,which now supported naturally colonised trees and an understorey,had *** between all rehabilitated plots and forest still *** with the long-term study,the rate of fauna return and the type of ants present in the short-term study p

A simple nitrobenzyl-umbelliferone （NCOU1） was synthesised containing a nitroreductase （NTR） trigger moiety. The presence of NTR, resulted in the fragmentation of the parent molecule and release of the highly emissive fluorophore umbelliferone via an NTR-catalyzed reduction of the nitro group. In the presence of the NTR enzyme, NCOU1 gave rise to a 5-fold increase in fluorescence intensity at 455 nm and was selective for NTR over other reductive enzymes. These results indicate that NCOU1 can be used as a simple assay for the detection of NTR.

However, although both synergistic and antagonistic interactions have been described between blue and red light signals （Casal, 2000）, little is known about how different light signals are inte- grated into modulate plant growth and development.

Background： during nutritional stress, reduced intake may reduce the efficacy of anabolic implants. This study was conducted to evaluate basic cellular responses to a growth promotant implant at two intake levels. Methods： Sixteen crossbred steers （293 ± 19.3 kg） were used to evaluate the impact of anabolic implants in either an adequate or a restricted nutritional state. Steers were trained to individual Calan gates, and then randomly assigned to 1 of 4 treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted off presence or absence of an anabolic growth implant （Revalor-XS, 200 mg TBA and 40 mg estradiol; IMPLANT or CONTROL） and a moderate energy, pelleted, starting cattle diet fed at either 2.0 × or 1.0 × maintenance energy （NEM） requirements （HIGH or LOW）. Serum （d O, 14, and 28） was used for application to bovine muscle satellite cells. After treatment with the serum （20% of total media） from the trial cattle, the satellite cells were incubated for 72 h. Protein abundance of myosin heavy chain （MHC）, phosphorylated extracellular signal-related kinase （phospho-ERK）, and phosphorylated mammalian target of rapamycin （phospho-mTOR） were analyzed to determine the effects of implant, intake, and their interaction （applied via the serum）. Results： Intake had no effect on MHC （P = 0.85） but IMPLANT increased （P 〈 0.01） MHC abundance vs. CONTROL. Implant status, intake status, and the interaction had no effect on the abundance of phospho-ERK （P〉0.23）. Implanting increased phospho-mTOR （P 〈 0.01） but there was no effect （P 〉 0.51） of intake or intake x implant. Conclusions： The nearly complete lack of interaction between implant and nutritional status indicates that the signaling molecules measured herein respond to implants and nutritional status independently. Furthermore, results suggest that the muscle hypertrophic effects of anabolic implants may not be mediated by circulating IGF-1.

Objectives:Little is known about the differences between urban and rural gamblers in Australia,in terms of comorbidity and treatment *** disparities exist between urban and rural areas in terms of accessibility,availability,and acceptability of treatment programs for problem ***,evidence supporting cognitivebehaviour therapy as the main treatment for problem gamblers is *** pilot study aimed to assess the outcome of a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy(CBT)treatment program offered to urban and rural treatment-seeking ***:People who presented for treatment at a nurse-led Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy(CBT)gambling treatment service were invited to take part in this study.A standardised clinical assessment and treatment service was provided to all participants.A series of validated questionnaires were given to all participants at(a)assessment,(b)discharge,(c)at a one-month,and(d)at a 3-month follow-up ***:differences emerged between urban and rural treatment-seeking *** overall treatment outcomes were much the same at three months after treatment,rural gamblers appeared to respond more rapidly and to have sustained improvements over ***:This study suggests that rural problem gamblers experience different levels of co-morbid anxiety and depression from their urban counterparts,but once in treatment appear to respond *** approach was found to be effective in treating rural gamblers and outcomes were *** better availability and access to such treatment in rural areas is *** are in a position as the majority health professional in rural areas to provide such help.

Well-tailored nanomaterials with a single-crystal character provide ideal building blocks for on-chip plasmonic *** colloidal methods have demonstrated mastery over the synthesis of such structures,it has proven quite difficult to deploy these same nanomaterials on substrate surfaces in a highly deterministic manner where precise control over position and orientation is ***,we demonstrate a room-temperature two-reagent liquid-phase seed-mediated synthesis of gold nanoplates directly on substrate surfaces in arrays over a square-centimeter *** synthesis is reliant on benchtop lithographic and directed-assembly processes that give rise to single-crystal seeds of gold that express both an epitaxial relationship with the underlying substrate and the internal defect structure required to promote a two-dimensional growth *** resulting structures are highly faceted and,because seed-substrate epitaxy is imposed upon the growing nanoplates,are identically aligned on the substrate *** yields are increased to values as high as 95%using a post-processing sonication procedure that selectively removes a small population of irregularly shaped nanostructures from the substrate surface,and in doing so,gives rise to an uncompromised plasmonic *** work,therefore,advances the techniques needed to integrate single-crystal nanomaterials with wafer-based technologies and provides leading-edge capabilities in terms of defining large-area arrays of plasmonic structures with the nanoplate geometry.
