Cuba has been leading marine protected area(MPA)designation in the Caribbean region to ensure conservation of its valuable marine ***,an efficient monitoring program for MPAs is still to be implemented and will benefit from pre-existing *** highly regulated MPA of Punta Francés National Park is one of the first Cuban MPAs and was established mainly to protect species and ecosystems for tourism *** of protection effects on commercial fish species was lacking in this *** study aimed at increasing local scientific knowledge by providing a baseline study about the most commercially fished families(Haemulidae,Lutjanidae and serranidae)around Punta Francés *** collected represent only a limited period but can be used as a base point to support future *** abundance in number and biomass,and size were collected to test for differences between inside and adjacent areas outside the Punta Francés MPA,in different coral reef *** main result of this study was the significantly larger size and biomass of snappers and groupers outside the MPA where intense fisheries *** observation consistent with a large spawning aggregation was also recorded outside the *** with a limited set of data,these results suggest that,at least temporarily,the most targeted species[and sizes]are still highly vulnerable to *** habitats in the adjacent area,that are apparently missing within the MPA,may support some of the results *** the limits of the Punta Francés MPA to include those habitats outside may be critical to ensure the effectiveness of this MPA in contributing to protect the most commercial species of the *** should be done together with efficient fisheries management measures in the region,such as the significantly increase of minimum legal sizes and temporal closures during spawning migrations.

Calcium signaling in cholangiocytes

Cytosolic Ca^2＋ is an important second messenger in virtually every type of cell. Moreover, Ca^2＋ generally regulates multiple activities within individual cells. This article reviews the cellular machinery that is responsible for Ca^2＋ signaling in cholangiocytes. In addition, two Ca^2＋-mediated events in cholangiocytes are discussed： bicarbonate secretion and apoptosis. Finally, emerging evidence is reviewed that Ca^2＋ signaling is involved in the pathogenesis of diseases affecting the biliary tree and that Ca^2＋ signaling pathways can be manipulated to therapeutic advantage in the treatment of cholestatic disorders.

Three-Dimensional Modeling of shallow shear-Wave Velocities for Las Vegas, Nevada, Using sediment Type

A three-dimensional model of near-surface shear-wave velocity in the deep alluvial basin underlying the metropolitan area of Las Vegas, Nevada （UsA）, is being developed for earthquake site response projections. The velocity dataset, which includes 230 measurements, is interpolated across the model using depth-dependent correlations of velocity with sediment type. The sediment-type database contains more than 1 400 well and borehole logs. sediment sequences reported in logs are assigned to one of four units. A characteristic shear-wave velocity profile is developed for each unit by analyzing closely spaced pairs of velocity profiles and well or borehole logs. The resulting velocity model exhibits reasonable values and patterns, although it does not explicitly honor the measured shear-wave velocity profiles. site response investigations that applied a preliminary version of the velocity model support a two-zone ground-shaking hazard model for the valley. Areas in which clay predominates in the upper 30 m are predicted to have stronger ground motions than the rest of the basin.

A novel approach is introduced for the detection of the location and direction of traffic congestion using GPs data from *** approach uses a dynamic model that conceptualizes events,processes,and *** states are the locations of the taxis,the processes are the motion of taxis,and the events are *** model is implemented as a graph database,which represents the relationships between states,events,processes,and things(such as points of interest and road grid).Algorithms for constructing and updating the relationships and taxi behaviors dynamic retrieval method in Neo4j are presented and are used to demonstrate the capabilities in dynamic expression and *** implementation of shanghai in 2015finally demonstrated the ability of congestion direction detection and the cause searching of traffic congestion.

Liver fibrosis and tissue architectural change measurement using fractal-rectified metrics and Hurst's exponent

AIM： To provide the accurate alternative metrical means of monitoring the effects of new antiviral drugs on the reversal of newly formed collagen. METHODs： Digitized histological biopsy sections taken from 209 patients with chronic C virus hepatitis with different grade of fibrosis or cirrhosis, were measured by means of a new, rapid, user-friendly, fully computeraided method based on the international system meter rectified using fractal principles. REsULTs： The following were described： geometric perimeter, area and wrinkledness of fibrosis; the collation of the Knodell, sheuer, Ishak and METAVIR scores with fractal-rectified metric measurements; the meaning of the physical composition of fibrosis in relation to the magnitude of collagen islets; the intra- and inter-biopsy sample variability of these parameters; the ＂staging＂ of biopsy sections indicating the pathway covered by fibrosis formation towards its maximum known value; the quantitative liver tissue architectural changes with the Hurst exponent. CONCLUsION： Our model provides the first metrical evaluations of the geometric properties of fibrosis and the quantitative architectural changes of the liver tissue. The representativeness of histological sections of the whole liver is also discussed in the light of the results obtained with the Hurst coefficient.

Modulation of immune responses of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus （Insecta： Coleoptera）induced by the entomopathogenic nematode steinernema carpocapsae （Nematoda： Rhabditida）

Aim of this study was to investigate relationships between the red palm weevil （RPW） Rhynchophorusferrugineus （Olivier） and the entomopathogenic nematode stein- ernema carpocapsae （EPN）; particularly, the work was focused on the immune response of the insect host in naive larvae and after infection with the EPN. Two main immunological processes have been addressed： the activity and modulation of host prophenoloxidase- phenoloxidase （proPO） system, involved in melanization of not-self and hemocytes recog- nition processes responsible for not-self encapsulation. Moreover, immune depressive and immune evasive strategies of the parasite have been investigated. Our results suggest that RPW possess an efficient immune system, however in the early phase of infection, s. carpocapsae induces a strong inhibition of the host proPO system. In addition, host cell- mediated mechanisms of encapsulation, are completely avoided by the parasite, the elusive strategies ors. carpocapsae seem to be related to the structure of its body-surface, since induced alterations of the parasite cuticle resulted in the loss of its mimetic properties. s. carpocapsae before the release of its symbiotic bacteria, depress and elude RPW immune defenses, with the aim to arrange a favorable environment for its bacteria responsible of the septicemic death of the insect target.

Chromium Content in the Human Hip Joint Tissues

Objective Chromium has many important functions in the human body. For the osseous tissue, its role has not been clearly defined. This study was aimed at determining chromium content in hip joint tissues. Methods A total of 91 hip joint samples were taken in this study, including 66 from females and 25 from males. The sample tissues were separated according to their anatomical parts. The chromium content was determined by the AAs method. The statistical analysis was performed with U Mann-Whitney＇s non-parametric test, P〈0.05. Results The overall chromium content in tissues of the hip joint in the study subjects was as follows： 5.73 μg/g in the articular cartilage, 5.33 μ/g in the cortical bone, 27.86 μ/g in the cancellous bone, 5.95 μg/8 in the fragment of the cancellous bone from the intertrochanteric region, and 2.28 μ/g in the joint capsule. The chromium contents were observed in 2 group patients, it was 7.04 μ/g in people with osteoarthritis and 22.59 μ/g in people with fractures. Conclusion The observed chromium content was highest in the cancellous bone and the lowest in the joint capsule. Chromium content was significantly different between the people with hip joint osteoarthritis and the people with femoral neck fractures.

Obligatory parthenogenesis and TE load： Bacillus stick insects and the R2 non-LTR retrotransposon

Transposable elements （TEs） are selfish genetic elements whose self-replication is contrasted by the host genome. In this context, host reproductive strategies are predicted to impact on both TEs load and activity. The presence and insertion distribution of the non- LTR retrotransposon R2 was here studied in populations of the strictly bisexual Bacillus grandii maretimi and of the obligatory parthenogenetic Bacillus atticus atticus. Further- more, data were also obtained from the offspring of selected B. a. atticus females. At the population level, the gonochoric B. g. maretimi showed a significantly higher R2 load than the obligatory parthenogenetic B. a. atticus. The comparison with bisexual and unisexual Bacillus rossius populations showed that their values were higher than those recorded for B. a. atticus and similar, or even higher, than those of B. g. maretimi. Consistently, an R2 load reduction is scored in B. a. atticus offspring even if with a great variance. On the whole, data here produced indicate that in the obligatory unisexual B. a. atticus R2 is active and that mechanisms of molecular turnover are effective. Furthermore, progeny analyses show that, at variance of the facultative parthenogenetic B. rossius, the R2 activ- ity is held at a lower rate. Modeling parental-offspring inheritance, suggests that in B. a. atticus recombination plays a major role in eliminating insertions rather than selection, as previously suggested for unisexual B. rossius progeny, even if in both cases a high variance is observed. In addition to this, mechanisms of R2 silencing or chances of clonal selection cannot be ruled out.
