Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is a treasure of the Chinese nation,providing effective solutions to current medical *** spectral techniques are undergoing continuous development and provide new and reliable means for evaluating the efficacy and quality of *** spectral techniques are noninvasive,convenient,and sensitive,they have been widely applied to in vitro and in vivo TCM evaluation *** this paper,previous achievements and current progress in the research on spectral technologies(including fluorescence spectroscopy,photoacoustic imaging,infrared thermal imaging,laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy,hyperspectral imaging,and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy)are *** advantages and disadvantages of each technology are also ***,the future applications of spectral imaging to identify the origins,components,and pesticide residues of TCM in vitro are ***,the evaluation of the efficacy of TCM in vivo is *** future applications of spectral imaging is anticipated to promote medical research as well as scientific and technological explorations.

Atrial fibrillation （AF） remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the world which are related to palpita- tions, fainting, congestive heart failure or stroke. The mechanism for atria/fibrillation has been identified as electrical remod- eling, structure remodeling and intracellular calcium handling remodeling, microRNAs （miRNAs） have recently emerged as one of the important factors in regulating gene expression. So far, thousands of miRNA genes have been found in diverse ani- mals with the function of regulating cell death, cell proliferation, haematopoiesis and even participate in the processing of car- diovascular disease. In this review, we summarize the mechanism of AF and the association of microRNAs network with AF. We provide a potential perspective of miRNAs as the therapeutic target for AF.

Caveolae are a kind of specific cystic structures of lipid rafts in the cytoplasmic membrane and are rich in cholesterol and sphingolipids. In recent years, many researchers have found that both caveolins and caveolae play a role in the development of various human diseases, including coronary heart disease, hypertension, and nervous system disorders. The specific mechanisms by which caveolins induce diseases have been a topic of interest. However, a number of detailed molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. This article focuses on the relationship between caveolin proteins and human diseases and reviews the molecular mechanisms of caveolins in disease networks.

Abstract Pneumonic plague that originated in Russian Siberia broke out in Northeast China in October 1910- March 1911. On the basis of field visits, autopsy, bacteriological identification, and close collaboration with local authorities and international colleagues, Dr. Wu Lien-Teh implemented a series of efficient antiplague measures, which successfully controlled the development of an extraordinary epidemic plague. In his subsequent work, Dr. Wu demonstrated the respiratory transmission of pneumonic plague and tarbagans＇ role in this spread. Dr. Wu＇s academic and cultural contributions are valuable in the medical progress in China.

BACKGROUND ： Recent researches indicate that activation of potassium channel is likely to cause many kinds of cells to proliferate and differentiate; using chemical to block the potassium channel can restrain the proliferation of small lung-cancer cells, breast cancer, prostate cancer and human lymphocyte, etc. Previous researches proved that resveratrol （RE）, a selective estrogen receptor modulator （SERM）, could inhibit growth of GH3 cells, induce apoptosis, and resist tumor through interfering K^＋ channel. OBJECTIVE ： To investigate the effects of RE on voltage-dependent K^＋ current GH3 pituitary-tumor cells, DESIGN： Observational contrast study SETTING ： Department of Neurosurgery, the First Clinical Hospital of Harbin Medical University; Department of Microbiology, Harbin Medical University; Department of Pharmacology, Harbin Medical University. MATERIALS： GH3 pituitary-tumor cell line of rats was purchased from the American Type Culture Collection （ATCC）. RE and [3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide] （MTT） were obtained from Sigma Chemical Co, St Louis, USA; Ham＇s F-10 medium from Gibco BRL; Equine serum and fetal bovine serum from Hyclone Laboratones, Logan, UT; FACSCalibur flow cytometer from BD Company, USA, RE was dissolved in ethanol and stored at -20 ℃, It was diluted to different concentrations （10, 50, 100 μmol/L） with medium and extra cellular solution when needed, The final concentration of ethanol was less than 0.01%.METHODS： The experiment was carded out in the Department of Microbiology and Pharmacology of Harbin Medical University from March 2005 to January 2006, （1） Cell preparation： Proliferating indexes affected by 10, 50 and 100 μmol/L RE were measured with MTT, respectively. 0.000 1 volume fraction of ethanol was added into control group. HYD-PEP06,an endostatin-modified polypeptide,has been shown to produce effective anticolorectal carcinoma effects through inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT).However,whether HYD-PEP06 has similar suppressive effect on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) remained *** this study,HYD-PEP06 inhibited metastasis and EMT but not proliferation in *** finder pathway reporter array and Western blot analysis revealed that HYD-PEP06 suppressed HCCLM3 cell metastasis and EMT by inhibiting the PI3 K/AKT ***,HYD-PEP06 exerted antimetastasis effects in HepG2 cancer stem-like cells(CSCs) via suppressing the WNT/β-catenin signaling ***,in HCCLM3 tumor-bearing BALB/c nu/nu nude mice,HYD-PEP06 substantially suppressed tumor growth,lung metastasis and HCC *** results suggest that HYD-PEP06 inhibits the metastasis and EMT of HCC and CSCs as well,and thus has the potential as an agent for HCC treatment.

Disturbed cholesterol and glucose homeostasis play crucial roles in the development of various diseases such as cardiovascular diseases,cerebrovascular diseases,central nervous system diseases,and *** increasing number of studies have shown that excessive body fat accumulation is associated with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance in a vicious *** vicious cycle promotes the occurrence and development of the aforementioned ***,stabilizing the blood lipids and blood glucose of patients is the predominant strategy for improving the symptoms of patients with cardiovascular,cerebrovascular,and central nervous system *** Chinese medicine,mainly Chinese herbal medicine(CHM),has a history of more than 2000 years in China,which has established a unique theory and accumulated a great wealth of clinical ***,CHM has been widely used in China and other countries for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases,with the advantages of preventing and curing hyperlipidemia,diabetes,hypertension,and other ***,the use of CHM in Western countries remains rather limited,partly because of the incomplete understanding of multiple complex components and uncertain pharmacological ***,we review and discuss the benefits,molecular mechanisms,and clinical research progress of bioactive components of CHM and their preparations as therapeutics for hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia.

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death throughout the world. The demand for new thera- peutic interventions is increasing. Although pharmacological and surgical interventions dramatically improve the quality of life of cardiovascular disease patients, cheaper and less invasive approaches are always preferable. Biomaterials, both natural and synthetic, exhibit great potential in cardiac repair and regeneration, either as a carrier for drug delivery or as an extracellular matrix substitute scaffold. In this review, we discuss the current treatment options for several cardiovascular diseases, as well as types of biomaterials that have been investigated as potential therapeutic interventions for said diseases. We especially highlight investigations into the possible use of conductive polymers for correcting ischemic heart disease-induced conduction abnormalities, and the generation of biological pacemakers to im- orove the conduction oathwav in heart block.
