Synthesis and characteriza-tion of two new types of oxovanadium complexes with pyrazole as ligand

At room temperature, two new different oxovanadium complexes with simple pyrazole (C3H4N2) as ligand were synthesized. VO(pz)4(SO4)? H2O (1) (pz: pyrazole) is a mono-nuclear oxovana- dium complex with pyrazole as terminal ligands. V2O2(μ-pz)(μ-OOSO2)(μ-OCH3)(pz)4 (2) is bi-nuclear oxovanadium complex containing three different bridges, which are pyrazolate, sulphate and methoxy, respectively. The two complexes were characterized by IR, elemental analyses, thermal analyses and X-ray diffraction. The crystal structural data of the complexes 1 and 2 are given as follows: Complex 1, orthorhombic, Pna21, a = 14.547(2) ?, b =10.895(2) ?, c =11.835(2) ?; α=β=γ=90°, V=1875.8(5) ?3, Z = 4, R1 = 0.0485, WR2 = 0.1092. Complex 2, triclinic, P1 , a =8.377(2) ?, b =9.928(2) ?, c = 16.527(3) ?, α = 85.54(3)°, β = 80.92(3)°, γ = 87.92(3)°, R1 = 0.1461, WR2 = 0.4444. The study of non-thermal kinetic de- composition shows that, for complex 1, the possible reaction mechanisms of the two steps are nucleation and growth n=1/3, and three-dimensional pervasion n=2, respectively, and the kinetic equations may be expressed as dα/dT = (A/β)exp(?E/RT){1/3(1?α) [?In(1?α)]?2} and dα/dT = (A/β)exp(?E/RT){3/2(1?α)2/3 [1?(1?α)1/3] ?1}, respectively; for complex 2, the pos- sible reaction mechanisms of the two steps are chemical reaction, and three-dimensional pervasion n=2, respectively; the kinetic equations may be ex- pressed as dα/dT = (A/β)exp(?E/RT)[(1?α)2], anddα/dT = (A/β)exp(?E/RT){3/2(1?α)2/3[1?(1?α)1/3] ?1}, respectively.

Dissolved inorganic carbon and its isotopic differentiation in cascade reservoirs in the Wujiang drainage basin

Three cascade reservoirs,built in different periods of time in the Wujiang drainage basin,were inves-tigated in this *** were taken at the surface and also at 20,40,60,80 m depths in front of the dams in April,July,October of 2006 and January of *** parameters were calculated and the concentrations of dissolved inorganic carbon DIC and its isotopic composition(δ13CDIC) were *** surface waters,the δ13CDIC values are high in summer and autumn and low in winter and spring,while the DIC concentrations are relatively low in summer and autumn and relatively high in winter and *** the water column,the DIC concentrations increase while δ13CDIC values decrease with water *** in various reservoirs is significantly different in isotopic composition from that in natural rivers,but is close to that in natural *** addition,in surface waters,the δ13CDIC values tend to become lower whereas the nutrition level tends to become higher with increasing age of the *** conclusion is that after dam blocking,changes took place in the hydrochemical properties of river water,and the impounding rivers developed toward lakes and *** addition,differentiation in DIC isotopic composition may be used to some extent to trace the evolution process of a reservoir.

Effects of pretreatment and HVOF sprayed cermet coating on fatigue properties of TC21 titanium alloy

The effects of grit blasting (GB),shot peening (SP) pretreatment and high velocity oxygen fuel(HVOF) sprayed WC-17Co cermet coating on the fatigue properties of the novel ultra-high strength TC21 titanium alloy were investigated with a rotating bending fatigue test *** basic properties and surface integrity of the coating were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD),surface roughness meter,microscopic hardness tester,scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray stress test *** results showed that the residual compressive stress could be introduced into the surface of TC21 alloy by GB and SP pretreatment,and that HVOF sprayed WC-17Co coating was compactly bonded with TC21 alloy substrate and it significantly improved the surface hardness of the ***,there was a certain residual tensile stress in the sublayer of the *** could significantly increase fatigue resistance of TC21 alloy due to the surface residual compressive *** was no significant effect on fatigue resistance by GB treatment due to the offset between the influence of surface residual compressive stress and the surface notch *** fatigue resistance of TC21 alloy was significantly reduced by HVOF WC-17Co coating prepared with GB *** could be attributed to the relaxation of surface residual compressive stress during the HVOF heating process,pore defects and residual tensile stress distribution in the WC-17Co coating with low toughness,and the surface notch induced by *** fatigue resistance of TC21 alloy was slightly reduced by HVOF WC-17Co coating prepared with SP *** was attributed to the offset between the advantage effect by SP and disadvantageous effect of WC-17Co coating and high temperature factor during the HVOF process.

A breathable, designable and flexible leather–heater used in wearable thermotherapy

Flexible heaters with personal thermal management capabilities have great potential in thermal therapy applications due to their excellent flexibility, low power consumption, and portability. However, manufacturing wearable heating devices that are breathable, wear resistant and conformal for long-term use is still challenging. To address these issues, we designed a leather heater using breathable, biocompatible, and tailorable leather as the substrate through a simple in-situ polymerization polypyrrole strategy. This heater exhibits excellent heating and mechanical properties(reaching 64℃ at a voltage of 5 V with efficient Joule heat generation of 2286 W/m^(2)and uniform temperature distribution, and functioning properly after 1000 cycles of bendability tests). In addition, this heater displays better wear resistance and water vapor permeability rate(38.04 g/(m^(2)h)). The cuttable and sewable of leather gives the strategy ability to be flexibly designed to mold the heater to the specific requirements of different body parts, providing a new approach to wearable thermal therapy.

New equation to decipher the relationship between carbon isotopic composition of methane and maturity of gas source rocks

Current influenza vaccines need to be updated annually owing to constant antigenic drift in the globular head of the viral surface hemagglutinin(HA)*** immunogenic subdominant stem domain of HA is highly conserved and can be recognized by antibodies capable of binding multiple HA ***,the HA stem antigen is a promising target for the design of universal influenza *** the basis of an established lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated mRNA vaccine platform,we designed and developed a novel universal influenza mRNA vaccine(mHAs)encoding the HA stem antigen of the influenza A(H1N1)*** tested the efficacy of the mHAs vaccine using a mouse *** vaccine induced robust humoral and specific cellular immune responses against the stem region of ***,two doses of the mHAs vaccine fully protected mice from lethal challenges of the heterologous H1N1 and heterosubtypic H5N8 influenza ***-nated mice had less pathological lung damage and lower viral titers than control *** results suggest that an mRNA vaccine using the conserved stem region of HA may provide effective protection against seasonal and other possible influenza variants.

Effect of Nozzle Inclination Angle on Fuel-Air Mixing and Combustion in a Heavy Fuel Engine

Heavy-fuel engines are widely used in UAVs(Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles)because of their reliability and high-power *** this study,a combustion model for an in-cylinder direct injection engine has been imple-mented using the AVL FIRE *** effects of the angle of nozzle inclination on fuel evaporation,mixture distribution,and combustion in the engine cylinder have been systematically studied at 5500 r/min and consider-ing full load cruise *** to the results,as the angle of nozzle inclination increases,the maximum combustion explosion pressure in the cylinderﬁrst increases and then it *** the angle of nozzle incli-nation is less than 45°,the quality of the mixture in the cylinder and the combustion performance can be improved by increasing the *** the angle of nozzle inclination is greater than 45°,however,the mixture unevenness increases slightly with the angle,leading to a deterioration of the combustion *** the angle of nozzle inclination is between 35°and 55°,the overall combustion performance of the engine is rela-tively *** the angle of nozzle inclination is 45°,the combustion chamber’s geometry and the cylinder’s airﬂow are well matched with the fuel spray,and the mixture quality is the *** with 25°,the peak heat release rate increases by 20%,and the maximum combustion burst pressure increases by 5.5%.

Genome-wide identification of endogenous retrovirus elements and their active transcription in mink genome

Mammalian endogenous retroviruses(ERVs)are ancient retroviruses that have been integrated into *** were believed to be inactive until the discovery of ERV transcription in the mouse ***,the transcription level and function of ERV elements in mammalian genomes are not well *** this study,we performed the first genome‐wide scanning of ERV loci in the American mink(Neogale vison)genome(NeoERV)followed by transcriptomic analysis to detect actively transcribed NeoERV elements.A total of 365,791 NeoERV loci were identified,and161,205(44%)of these loci were found to be actively transcribed based on transcriptomic data from three types of tissues(amygdala,trachea and lung).More than one third of the actively transcribed NeoERV loci were tissue‐***,some of the active loci were associated with host gene transcription,and the level of NeoERV transcription was positively correlated with that of host genes,specifically when active loci were located in overlapped gene *** in‐depth analysis of the envelope protein coding env gene showed that,in general,its transcription level was higher than that of NeoERVs,which is believed to be associated with host immunity.

Nitrous oxide (N_2O) emissions from a mesotrophic reservoir on the Wujiang River,southwest China

Aquatic ecosystems have been identified as a globally significant source of nitrous oxide(N_2O) due to continuous active nitrogen involvement, but the processes and influencing factors that control N_2O production are still poorly understood, especially in reservoirs. For that, monthly N_2O variations were monitored in Dongfeng reservoir(DFR)with a mesotrophic condition. The dissolved N_2O concentration in DFR displayed a distinct spatial–temporal pattern but lower than that in the eutrophic reservoirs. During the whole sampling year, N_2O saturation ranging from 144% to 640%, indicating that reservoir acted as source of atmospheric N_2O. N_2O production is induced by the introduction of nitrogen(NO_3^-, NH_4^+) in mesotrophic reservoirs, and is also affected by oxygen level and water temperature. Nitrification was the predominate process for N_2O production in DFR due to well-oxygenated longitudinal water *** values of estimated N_2O flux from the air–water interface averaged 0.19 μmol m^(-2)h^(-1) with a range of 0.01–0.61 μmol m^(-2)h^(-1). DFR exhibited less N_2O emission flux than that reported in a nearby eutrophic reservoir, but still acted as a moderate N_2O source compared with other reservoirs and lakes worldwide. Annual emissions from the water–air interface of DFR were estimated to be 0.32×10~5 mol N–N_2O, while N_2O degassing from releasing water behind the dam during power generation was nearly five times greater. Hence, N_2O degassing behind the dam should be taken into account for estimation of N_2O emissions from artificial reservoirs, an omission that historically has probably resulted in underestimates. IPCC methodology should consider more specifically N_2O emission estimation in aquatic ecosystems, especially in reservoirs, the default EF5 model will lead to an overestimation.

Effects of river damming on biogenic silica turnover:implications for biogeochemical carbon and nutrient cycles

Rivers link terrestrial ecosystems and marine ecosystems, and they transport large amounts of substances into oceans each year, including several forms of silicon(Si), carbon(C), and other nutrients. However, river damming affects the water flow and biogeochemical cycles of Si, C, and other nutrients through biogeochemical interacting processes. In this review, we first summarize the current understanding of the effects of river damming on the processes of biogeochemical Si cycle, especially the source, composition, and recycling process of biogenic silica(BSi). Then, we introduce dam impacts on the cycles of C and some other nutrients. Dissolved silicon in rivers is mainly released from phytolith dissolution and silicate weathering. BSi in suspended matter or sediments in most rivers mainly consists of phytoliths and mainly originates from soil erosion. However, diatom growth and deposition in many reservoirs formed by river interception may significantly increase the contribution of diatom Si to total BSi, and thus significantly influence the biogeochemical Si,C, and nutrient cycles. Yet the turnover of phytoliths and diatoms in different rivers formed by river damming is still poorly quantified. Thus, they should be further investigated to enhance our understanding about the effects of river damming on global biogeochemical Si, C and nutrient cycles.
