Physical and chemical characteristics of PM_(2.5) and its toxicity to human bronchial cells BEAS-2B in the winter and summer

With the increasing occurrence of haze during the summer, the physicochemical characteristics and toxicity differences in PM2.5 in different seasons are of great concern. Hangzhou is located in an area that has a subtropical monsoon climate where the humidity is very high during both the summer and winter. However, there are limited studies on the seasonal differences in PM2.5 in these weather conditions. In this test, PM2.5 samples were collected in the winter and summer, the morphology and chemical composition of PM2.5 were analyzed, the toxicity of PM2.5 to human bronchial cells BEAS-2B was compared, and the correlation between PM2.5 toxicity and the chemical compo- sition was discussed. The results showed that during both the winter and summer, the main compounds in the PM2.5 samples were water-soluble ions, particularly SO4^2-, NO3^-, and NH4^＋, followed by organic components, while heavy metals were present at lower levels. The higher the mass concentration of PM2.5, the greater its impact on cell viability and ROS levels. However, when the mass concentration of PM2.5 was similar, the water extraction from the summer samples showed a greater impact on BEAS-2B than that from the winter samples. The cytotoxicity of PM2.5 was closely associated with heavy metals and organic pollutants but less related to water-soluble ions.

Quantitative estimation of global mean precipitation throughout the Phanerozoic era

Quantitatively estimating the global mean precipitation(GMP)throughout Earth's history is crucial for enhancing our understanding of long-term climate evolution and the hydrological ***,currently there is no established methodology for estimating global mean ***,we present the first study that estimates GMP in the Phanerozoic *** relationship between GMP and global mean surface temperature(GMST)is investigated by analyzing data from 23 models in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6(CMIP6).The result reveals consistent and significant impact of temperature on precipitation,with a sensitivity range of 2–3%K^(-1).Additionally,we propose a method for accessing latitudinal variations in precipitation caused by land area distributions and paleo-Koppen climatic *** climatic belts are determined based on geological indicators such as coals,evaporites,and glacial *** GMP is thus quantitatively estimated by combining variations in GMST,land area distributions,and paleo-koppen climatic belts,spanning from 540 Ma to the present *** quantitative GMP curve demonstrates fluctuations in GMP about 500 mm yr^(-1),with values ranging from 948 to1442 mm yr-1over the Phanerozoic *** curve aligns closely with findings derived from numerical *** presented paleoprecipitation variations facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of the interconnected geological and paleoclimatic developments.

Research progress of slippage characteristic and gas film stability enhancement methods on biomimetic hydrophobic surfaces

The biomimetic hydrophobic surface is a potentially efficient underwater drag reduction method and the drag reduction mechanism of this kind of surface comes from the interfacial *** now,it is a hotspot to grasp the slippage characteristic and explore slippage enhancement *** paper not only summarizes our numerical simulation and experimental results of slippage characteristic at the solid-liquid interface(SLI)of hydrophobic surfaces(HS)and the gas-liquid interface(GLI)of superhydrophobic surfaces(SHS)in recent years,but also introduces some innovative methods that can effectively improve the gas film stability and drag reduction effect of ***,we used the molecular dynamics(MD)simulation method to figure out the effect of the solid-liquid interaction strength,the system temperature and the shear rate on the slippage of SLI,and expound their action mechanism from molecular ***,by MD and multibody dissipative particle dynamics(MDPD)method,the slippage behavior at the GLI was studied under the influence of the microstructure size and the flow driving *** proposed a new kind of hybrid slip boundary condition model to describe the slippage characteristic on *** addition,we found through experiment that a three-dimensional backflow will appear on the GLI under the interfacial adsorption of surfactants,and the backflow direction will reverse with the change of GLI ***,we put forward the wettability step structure and gas injection method to enhance the stability and drag reduction effect of the gas film on SHS.

A Facile Li_(2)TiO_(3) Surface Modification to Improve the Structure Stability and Electrochemical Performance of Full Concentration Gradient Li-Rich Oxides

Full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides are catching lots of interest as the next generation cathode for lithium-ion batteries due to their high discharge voltage,reduced voltage decay and enhanced rate performance,whereas the high lithium residues on its surface impairs the structure stability and long-term cycle ***,a facile multifunctional surface modification method is implemented to eliminate surface lithium residues of full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides by a wet chemistry reaction with tetrabutyl titanate and the post-annealing *** realizes not only a stable Li_(2)TiO_(3)coating layer with 3D diffusion channels for fast Li^(+)ions transfer,but also dopes partial Ti^(4+)ions into the sub-surface region of full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides to further strengthen its crystal ***,the modified full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides exhibit improved structure stability,elevated thermal stability with decomposition temperature from 289.57℃to 321.72℃,and enhanced cycle performance(205.1 mAh g^(-1)after 150 cycles)with slowed voltage drop(1.67 mV per cycle).This work proposes a facile and integrated modification method to enhance the comprehensive performance of full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides,which can facilitate its practical application for developing higher energy density lithium-ion batteries.

Ultra-efficient and parameter-free computation of submicron thermal transport with phonon Boltzmann transport equation

Understanding thermal transport at the submicron scale is crucial for engineering applications,especially in the thermal management of electronics and tailoring the thermal conductivity of thermoelectric *** the submicron scale,the macroscopic heat diffusion equation is no longer valid and the phonon Boltzmann transport equation(BTE)becomes the governing equation for thermal ***,previous thermal simulations based on the phonon BTE have two main limitations:relying on empirical parameters and prohibitive computational ***,the phonon BTE is commonly used for qualitatively studying the non-Fourier thermal transport phenomena of toy *** this work,we demonstrate an ultra-efficient and parameter-free computational method of the phonon BTE to achieve quantitatively accurate thermal simulation for realistic materials and *** properly integrating the phonon properties from first-principles calculations,our method does not rely on empirical material properties *** can be generally applicable for different materials and the predicted results can match well with experimental ***,by developing a suitable ensemble of advanced numerical algorithms,our method exhibits superior numerical *** full-scale(from ballistic to diffusive)thermal simulation of a 3-dimensional fin field-effect transistor with 13 million degrees of freedom,which is prohibitive for existing phonon BTE solvers even on supercomputers,can now be completed within two hours on a single personal *** method makes it possible to achieve the predictive design of realistic nanostructures for the desired thermal *** also enables accurately resolving the temperature profiles at the transistor level,which helps in better understanding the self-heating effect of electronics.

Oral infectious diseases caused by a variety of pathogenic bacteria seriously affect the quality of ***,these diseases remain a clinical challenge because of the lack of simple,safe,and universal *** address these limitations,we synthesize CuO_(x)nanodots(CuO_(x)NDs)with excellent Fenton-like reaction activity and utilize them in the treatment of oral bacterial *** from other complicated approaches,CuO_(x)NDs are rationally prepared using a facile one-pot aqueous *** the presence of H_(2)O_(2),these well-developed CuO_(x)NDs can efficiently catalyze the generation of hydroxyl radicals(·OH)around oral pathogens,leading to the death of various ***,results of biosafety indicate the high biocompatibility and extremely low toxicity of these CuO_(x)*** understanding the admirable in vitro antibacterial effect of CuO_(x)NDs in the presence of H_(2)O_(2),we further explore their in vivo antibacterial performance on several classical animal models including oral mucosal wound model,intragingival bacteria-infected model,and the periodontal infection *** expected,these CuO_(x)NDs with wide-spectrum antibacterial activity can serve as high-performance antibacterial reagents for the treatment of various oral bacterial infections with the help of H_(2)O_(2).In brief,current nanoplatform can act as efficient antibiotics against oral pathogens with broadening the biomedical applications of copper-based nanomaterials.

Evaluation of teplizumab's efficacy and safety in treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus:A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Islets of langerhans beta cells diminish in autoimmune type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM).Teplizumab,a humanized anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody,may help *** long-term implications on clinical T1DM development,safety,and efficacy are *** To assess the effectiveness and safety of teplizumab as a therapeutic intervention for individuals with *** A systematic search was conducted using four electronic databases(PubMed,Embase,Scopus,and Cochrane Library)to select publications published in peerreviewed journals written in *** odds ratio(OR)and risk ratio(RR)were calculated,along with their 95%*** assessed heterogeneity using Cochrane Q and I2 statistics and the appropriate P *** There were 8 randomized controlled trials(RCTs)in the current meta-analysis with a total of 1908 T1DM patients from diverse age cohorts,with 1361 patients receiving Teplizumab and 547 patients receiving a *** was found to have a substantial link with a decrease in insulin consumption,with an OR of 4.13(95%CI:1.72 to 9.90).Teplizumab is associated with an improved Cpeptide response(OR 2.49;95%CI:1.62 to 3.81)and a significant change in Glycated haemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)levels in people with type 1 diabetes[OR 1.75(95%CI:1.03 to 2.98)],and it has a RR of 0.71(95%CI:0.53 to 0.95).CONCLUSION In type 1 diabetics,teplizumab decreased insulin consumption,improved C-peptide response,and significantly changed HbA1c levels with negligible side *** appears to improve glycaemic control and diabetes management with good safety and efficacy.

Impacts of Future Changes in Heavy Precipitation and Extreme Drought on the Economy over South China and Indochina

Heavy precipitation and extreme drought have caused severe economic losses over South China and Indochina(INCSC)in recent *** the areas with large gross domestic product(GDP)in the INCSC region are distributed along the coastline and greatly affected by global warming,understanding the possible economic impacts induced by future changes in the maximum consecutive 5-day precipitation(RX5day)and the maximum consecutive dry days(CDD)is critical for adaptation planning in this *** on the latest data released by phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP6),future projections of precipitation extremes with bias correction and their impacts on GDP over the INCSC region under the fossil-fueled development Shared Socioeconomic Pathway(SSP5-8.5)are *** indicate that RX5day will intensify robustly throughout the INCSC region,while CDD will lengthen in most regions under global *** changes in climate consistently dominate the effect on GDP over the INCSC region,rather than the change of *** only considering the effect of climate change on GDP,the changes in precipitation extremes bring a larger impact on the economy in the future to the provinces of hunan,Jiangxi,Fujian,Guangdong,and Hainan in South China,as well as the Malay Peninsula and southern Cambodia in ***,timely regional adaptation strategies are urgent for these ***,from the sub-regional average viewpoint,over two thirds of CMIP6 models agree that maintaining a lower global warming level will reduce the economic impacts from heavy precipitation over the INCSC region.
