Pentatricopepetide repeat （PPR） proteins are a large family of RNA-binding proteins involved in RNA meta- bolism in plant organelles. Although many PPR proteins have been functionally studied, few of them are identified with a function in mitochondrial RNA stability. By using a reverse genetic approach, we characterized the role of the mitochondrion-targeted PPR78 protein in nad5 mature mRNA stability and maize （Zea mays） seed development. Loss of PPR78 function leads to a dramatic reduction in the steady-state level of mitochondrial nad5 mature mRNA, blocks the assembly of complex I in the electron transport chain, and causes an arrest in embryogenesis and endosperm development. Characterization of a second strong allele confirms the function of PPR78 in nad5 mRNA accumulation and maize seed development. The generation of mature nad5 requires the assembly of three distinct precursor RNAs via transsplicing reactions, and the accumulation ofnad5T1 precursor is reduced in the ppr78 mutants. However, it is the instability of mature nad5 rather than nad5T1 causing loss of the full-length nad5 transcript, and degradation of nad5 losing both translation start and stop codons is enriched in the mutant. Our data imply the assembly of mature nad5 mRNA precedes the protection of PPR78.

RNA helicases participate in nearly all aspects of RNA metabolism by rearranging RNAs or RNA–protein complexes in an adenosine triphosphatedependent *** to the large RNA helicase families in plants,the precise roles of many RNA helicases in plant physiology and development remain to be ***,we show that mutations in maize(Zea mays)DEAD-box RNA helicase48(Zm RH48)impair the splicing of mitochondrial introns,mitochondrial complex biosynthesis,and seed *** of Zm RH48 function severely arrested embryogenesis and endosperm development,leading to defective kernel *** RH48 is targeted to mitochondria,where its deficiency dramatically reduced the splicing efficiency of five cis-introns(nad5 intron 1;nad7 introns 1,2,and 3;and ccm Fc intron 1)and one trans-intron(nad2 intron 2),leading to lower levels of mitochondrial complexes I andⅢ.Zm RH48 interacts with two unique pentatricopeptide repeat(PPR)proteins,PPR-SMR1 and SPR2,which are required for the splicing of over half of all mitochondrial ***-SMR1 interacts with SPR2,and both proteins interact with P-type PPR proteins and Zm-m CSF1 to facilitate intron *** results suggest that Zm RH48 is likely a component of a splicing complex and is critical for mitochondrial complex biosynthesis and seed development.

In mitochondria and chloroplasts of higher plants,the loss of self-splicing activity of degenerate group II introns results in recruitment of intron splicing factors encoded in the nucleus. One family of such factors is the pentatricopeptide repeat proteins(PPR) which are implicated in editing,splicing,end maturation and regulation of translation in organellar transcripts. PPR proteins belong to a large family with more than 500 members in flowering plants. Because of its large size and frequent embryo lethality in KO mutants,functions of many PPR proteins remain unknown. Here we report the function identification of PPR17 and PPR20 and their physical interactions with Chloroplast RNA Spl icing 1(CRS1) in maize. Null mutation of PPR17 and PPR20 showed similar arrest in embryogenesis at the transition stage. Both PPR17 and PPR20 are P-type PPR proteins with 11 and 17 PPR motifs respectively. Subcellular localization revealed that both proteins are localized in the chloroplast. PPR17 and PPR20 are expressed in all the tissues examined. Analysis of chloroplast transcripts revealed that loss of either the PPR17 or the PPR20 function abolishes the splicing of the atp F and rpl2 introns,suggesting that PPR17 and PPR20 are required for atp F and rpl2 intron splicing. Previous studies have identified that CRM protein CRS1 is also required for atp F intron splicing(Jenkins et al.,1997;Till et al.,2001). Yeast two hybridization,Pull-down and Bi FC analyses indicated that PPR17,PPR20 and CRS1 interact physically. Domain deletion analysis showed that the first four PPR motifs of PPR17 interact with the first two CRM domains of CRS1 and PPR20,and the C-terminal region of CRS1 interacts with PPR20. These results demonstrate that PPR17,PPR20 and CRS1 mediate the atp F intron splicing by forming a complex in maize chloroplasts.

With the development of quantum computing technology, quantum public-key cryptography is gradually becoming an alternative to the existing classical public-key cryptography. This paper designs a quantum trapdoor one-way function via EPR pairs and quantum measurements. Based on this, a new quantum public-key cryptosystem is presented, which offers forward security,and can resist the chosen-plaintext attack and chosen-ciphertext attack. Compared with the existing quantum public-key cryptos,eavesdropping can be automatically detected in this new quantum public-key cryptosystem under a necessary condition, which is also detailed in the paper.

In this work, we provide a comprehensive review on the formation, evolution, properties, and effects of supercritical geofluid. In Earth's interior, enhanced miscibility between H2O and silicate by the addition of special components or by the increase of pressure and temperature gives rise to supercritical geofluid with a significant amount of both H2O and silicate *** formation of supercritical geofluid in magmatic-hydrothermal systems, typified by pegmatite system, is governed by meltfluid critical curve. The formation of supercritical geofluid in metamorphic systems, typified by subducted slab, is governed by the second critical end point. Experimental results suggest that the presence of boron and fluorine in pegmatite system makes it possible to form supercritical geofluid at crustal depths, but the release of supercritical geofluid from subducted slab is withheld until almost 100 km depth. A major presence of both H2O and depolymerized structural units（monomers, dimers, etc.） endows supercritical geofluid with unique physical properties including low density, low elastic moduli, low viscosity, high diffusivity,and high electrical conductivity. Supercritical geofluid can effectively mobilize a variety of elements even including high field strength elements and heavy rare earth elements. The chemical signatures of supercritical geofluid can be inherited by metasomatized mantle and mantle-derived melts, and this could give an explanation of the oxidation of arc magmas. Phase separation of supercritical geofluid through the mechanism of spinodal decomposition leads to formation of a melt network. Multiphase fluid inclusions recovered from subduction zone rocks and pegmatites are possible relics of supercritical geofluid. Supercritical geofluid can cause electrical anomaly and low seismic velocity near the top of subducted slab, and can be linked with intermediate-focus earthquakes.
