Room temperature low threshold lasing of green GaNbased vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL)was demonstrated under continuous wave(CW)operation.By using self-formed InGaN quantum dots(QDs)as the active region,the VCSEL emitting at 524.0 nm has a threshold current density of 51.97 A cm^(-2),the lowest ever reported.The QD epitaxial wafer featured with a high IQE of 69.94%and theδ-function-like density of states plays an important role in achieving low threshold current.Besides,a short cavity of the device(~4.0λ)is vital to enhance the spontaneous emission coupling factor to 0.094,increase the gain coefficient factor,and decrease the optical loss.To improve heat dissipation,AlN layer was used as the current confinement layer and electroplated copper plate was used to replace metal bonding.The results provide important guidance to achieving high performance GaN-based VCSELs.

Stress redistribution in multi-stage hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells in shales

Multi-stage hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells is the main stimulation method in recovering gas from tight shale gas reservoirs, and stage spacing deter- mination is one of the key issues in fracturing design. The initiation and propagation of hydraulic fractures will cause stress redistribution and may activate natural fractures in the reservoir. Due to the limitation of the analytical method in calculation of induced stresses, we propose a numerical method, which incorporates the interaction of hydraulic fractures and the wellbore, and analyzes the stress distri- bution in the reservoir under different stage spacing. Simulation results indicate the following：（1） The induced stress was overestimated from the analytical method because it did not take into account the interaction between hydraulic fractures and the horizontal wellbore. （2） The hydraulic fracture had a considerable effect on the redis- tribution of stresses in the direction of the horizontal wellbore in the reservoir. The stress in the direction per- pendicular to the horizontal wellbore after hydraulic frac- turing had a minor change compared with the original in situ stress. （3） Stress interferences among fractures were greatly connected with the stage spacing and the distance from the wellbore. When the fracture length was 200 m, and the stage spacing was 50 m, the stress redistribution due to stage fracturing may divert the original stress pat- tern, which might activate natural fractures so as to generate a complex fracture network.

BACKGROUND Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma is extremely rare in clinical practice.These cells consist of both epithelial and mesenchymal cells.Patient-derived cell lines that maintain tumor characteristics are valuable tools for studying the molecular mechanisms associated with carcinosarcoma.However,cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma cell lines are not available in cell banks.AIM To establish and characterize a new extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma cell line,namely CBC2T-2.METHODS We conducted a short tandem repeat(STR)test to confirm the identity of the CBC2T-2 cell line.Furthermore,we assessed the migratory and invasive properties of the cells and performed clonogenicity assay to evaluate the ability of individual cells to form colonies.The tumorigenic potential of CBC2T-2 cells was tested in vivo using nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient(NOD/SCID)mice.The cells were injected subcutaneously and tumor formation was observed.In addition,immunohistochemical analysis was carried out to examine the expression of epithelial marker CK19 and mesenchymal marker vimentin in both CBC2T-2 cells and xenografts.The CBC2T-2 cell line was used to screen the potential therapeutic effects of various clinical agents in patients with cholangiocarcinoma sarcoma.Lastly,whole-exome sequencing was performed to identify genetic alterations and screen for somatic mutations in the CBC2T-2 cell line.RESULTS The STR test showed that there was no cross-contamination and the results were identical to those of the original tissue.The cells showed round or oval-shaped epithelioid cells and mesenchymal cells with spindle-shaped or elongated morphology.The cells exhibited a high proliferation ratio with a doubling time of 47.11 h.This cell line has migratory,invasive,and clonogenic abilities.The chromosomes in the CBC2T-2 cells were polyploidy,with numbers ranging from 69 to 79.The subcutaneous tumorigenic assay confirmed the in vivo tumorigenic ability of CBC2T-2 cells in NOD/SCID mice.CBC2T-2 cells and xenografts were posi

Five organic esters with different curing speeds: propylene carbonate(i.e. high-speed ester A); 1, 4-butyrolactone; glycerol triacetate(i.e. medium-speed ester B); glycerol diacetate; dibasic ester(DBE)(i.e. lowspeed ester C), were chosen to react with alkaline phenolic resin to analyze the application conditions of ester cured alkaline phenolic resin. The relationships between the curing performances of the resin(including pH value, gel pH value, gel time of resin solution, heat release rate of the curing reaction and tensile strength of the resin sand) and the amount of added organic ester and curing temperature were investigated. The results indicated the following:(1) The optimal added amount of organic ester should be 25 wt.%-30 wt.% of alkaline phenolic resin and it must be above 20 wt.%-50 wt.% of the organic ester hydrolysis amount.(2) High-speed ester A(propylene carbonate) has a higher curing speed than 1, 4-butyrolactone, and they were both used as high-speed esters. Glycerol diacetate is not a high-speed ester in alkaline phenolic resin although it was used as a high-speed ester in ester cured sodium silicate sand; glycerol diacetate and glycerol triacetate can be used as medium-speed esters in alkaline phenolic resin.(3) High-speed ester A, medium-speed ester B(glycerol triacetate) and low-speed ester C(dibasic ester, i.e., DBE) should be used below 15 °C, 35 °C and 50 °C, respectively. High-speed ester A or lowspeed ester C should not be used alone but mixed with medium-speed ester B to improve the strength of the resin sand.(4) There should be a suitable solid content(generally 45 wt.%-65 wt.% of resin), alkali content(generally 10 wt.%-15 wt.% of resin) and viscosity of alkaline phenolic resin(generally 50-300 mPa·s) in the preparation of alkaline phenolic resin. Finally, the technique conditions of alkaline phenolic resin preparation and the application principles of organic ester were discussed.

Semiconductor vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers(VCSELs)with wavelengths from 491.8 to 565.7 nm,covering most of the‘green gap’,are demonstrated.For these lasers,the same quantum dot(QD)active region was used,whereas the wavelength was controlled by adjusting the cavity length,which is difficult for edge-emitting lasers.Compared with reports in the literature for green VCSELs,our lasers have set a few world records for the lowest threshold,longest wavelength and continuous-wave(CW)lasing at room temperature.The nanoscale QDs contribute dominantly to the low threshold.The emitting wavelength depends on the electron–photon interaction or the coupling between the active layer and the optical field,which is modulated by the cavity length.The green VCSELs exhibit a low-thermal resistance of 915 kW^(−1),which benefits the CW lasing.Such VCSELs are important for small-size,low power consumption full-color displays and projectors.

Optically pumped wavelength-tunable vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers(VCSELs)operating in the ultraviolet A(UVA)spectrum were demonstrated.The VCSELs feature double dielectric distributed brag reflectors and a wedge-shaped cavity fabricated using the substrate transfer technique and laser lift off,resulting in a graded cavity length in one device.A resonant period gain structure is used in the InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well active region to enhance the coupling between the cavity mode field and the active layers.The optical field inside the cavity is modulated by the cavity length;thus,tunable lasing at different wavelengths is realized at different points of a single VCSEL chip.The lasing wavelength extends from 376 to 409 nm,covering most of the UVA band below the band gap of GaN.The threshold pumping power density of the UVA VCSELs at different wavelengths ranges from 383 to 466 kW/cm^(2),which is among the lowest values for ultraviolet(UV)VCSELs.This study is promising for the development of small-footprint,power-efficient UV light sources.

Using first-principles calculations,we predict a new type of two-dimensional(2D)beryllium(Be)-decorated T-graphene named BeC_(2),where Be atoms are inserted into C–C bonds linking the carbon tetrarings of T-graphene.The band structure shows that BeC_(2)is metallic,thus,the possible phonon-mediated superconductivity is explored based on the Eliashberg equation.The calculated electron-phonon coupling(EPC)constantλis up to 4.07,and the corresponding superconducting critical temperature(Tc)is 72.1 K,approaching the liquid nitrogen temperature.The reason for the high Tc is the strong EPC.And it is proved to be an anisotropic single-gap superconductor by analyzing the superconducting gap?kof BeC_(2).The electronic susceptibility calculation shows strong nesting effect in BeC_(2).Since rare 2D superconductors show such a strong EPC constantλwhich originates from the coupling between electrons in C-pzorbital and in-plane vibrations of Be and C atoms,the predicted BeC_(2)provides a new platform for investigating strong EPC 2D superconductor.

Triclosan(TCS)has been manufactured as an antibacterial compound for half a century.Currently,it is widely used in various personal care products;however,its potential adverse effects raise a lot of attention.Here,we create a long-term oral administration mouse model and identify the corresponding hepatotoxicity of TCS.We discover that daily intragastric administration of 10 mg/kg TCS to mice for 12 weeks results in severe hepatic fibrosis.Further study displays that hepatic iron increased 18%,23%and 29%upon oral TCS treatment for4,8 and 12 weeks,respectively.Accompanied by hepatic iron variation,splenic and duodenal iron are increased,which indicates systemic iron disorder.Not only excessive iron accumulated in the liver,abnormal hepatic malondialdehyde,prostaglandin synthase 2 and glutathione peroxidase 4 are pointed to ferroptosis.Additional study uncovers that hepcidin expression increases 7%,10%,4%in serum and 2.4-,4.8-,and 2.3-fold on transcriptional levels upon TCS exposure for 4,8 and 12 weeks,individually.Taken together,the mice in the TCS-treated group show disordered systemic iron homeostasis via the upregulated hepatic hepcidin-ferroportin axis.Meanwhile,both hepatic iron overload(systemic level)and hepatocyte ferroptosis(cellular level)are accused of TCS-induced liver fibrosis.Ferriprox■,an iron scavenger,significantly ameliorates TCS-induced liver fibrosis.In summary,this study confirms the impact of TCS on liver fibrosis;a critical signal pathway is also displayed.The significance of the current study is to prompt us to reevaluate the“pros and cons”of TCS applications.

Testing Linearity in Functional Partially Linear Models

For the functional partially linear models including flexible nonparametric part and functional linear part,the estimators of the nonlinear function and the slope function have been studied in existing literature.How to test the correlation between response and explanatory variables,however,still seems to be missing.Therefore,a test procedure for testing the linearity in the functional partially linear models will be proposed in this paper.A test statistic is constructed based on the existing estimators of the nonlinear and the slope functions.Further,we prove that the approximately asymptotic distribution of the proposed statistic is a chi-squared distribution under some regularity conditions.Finally,some simulation studies and a real data application are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed test statistic.
