Tailoring mechanical heterogeneity,nanoscale creep deformation and optical properties of nanostructured Zr-based metallic glass

Metallic glasses are spatially heterogeneous at the nanometer scale.However,the effects of external excitation on their structural and mechanical heterogeneity and the correlation to their properties are still unresolved.Nanoindentation,atomic force microscopy(AFM) and high-resolution transmis sion elec tron micro scopy(HRTEM) were carried out to explore the effects of cryogenic thermal cycling(CTC) on mechanical/structural heterogeneity,nano sc ale creep deformation and optical properties of nano structured metallic glass thin films(MGTFs).The results indicate that CTC treatment alters the distribution fluctuations of hardness/modulus and energy dissipation and results in an increase-then-decrease variation in mechanical heterogeneity.By applying Maxwell-Voigt model,it can be shown that CTC treatment results in a remarkable activation of more defects with longer relaxation time in soft regions but has only a slight effect on defects in hard regions.In addition,CTC treatment increases the transition time from primary-state stage to steady-state stage during creep deformation.The enhanced optical reflectivity of the MGTFs after 15 thermal cycles can be attributed to increased aggregation of Cu and Ni elements.The results of this study shed new light on understanding mechanical/structural heterogeneity and its influence on nanoscale creep deformation and optical characteristics of nanostructured MGTFs,and facilitate the design of high-performance nanostructured MGTFs.

In this work,the effect of Re alloying on the phase composition,crystal structure,and mechanical properties of NbMoTaWRe_(x) (x=0,0.27,0.57,0.92,1.33) refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) were systematically investigated by combining the calculation of phase diagram(CALPHAD),first-principle calculations and experiment.The theoretical predictions showed good consistency with the experimental results.As the increase in Re content,the theoretical results showed that all considered alloys have a single body-centered cubic (bcc) structure and the lattice constant and ductility were decreased,while the elastic moduli and hardness were improved.To avoid extreme brittleness,a strategic suggestion was given for the design of Re-containing RHEAs in the future.

Marginal donor liver versus standard donor liver: A single-center observational study

Background:The effectiveness and safety of marginal donor livers remain controversial.This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of marginal donor livers in patients with liver transplantation(LT).Methods:This study included 199 liver donors(including 16 split donors)and 206 liver recipients from January 1,2018 to January 27,2020,with case follow-up until July 31,2021.Clinical data of donors and recipients were retrospectively analyzed and were divided into the marginal donor and standard donor groups according to the criteria of marginal donor livers.Indices of liver and kidney functions,complications,and survival curves of the two groups were compared.Results:Compared with the standard donor group,the blood creatinine levels were significantly higher in the marginal donor group in the first week after operation(P0.05);there was no significant difference in the incidence of complications after LT(P>0.05);there was also no significant difference in the survival curve(P=0.335).Conclusions:There were no significant differences in liver and kidney function and survival curve between the standard donor and marginal donor groups.The marginal donor liver appears safe and reliable for LT and may be an important strategy to expand the donor pool and solve the shortage of organs.

Intermittent serrated flows of a novel ductile Fe60Ni20P13C7 bulk metallic glass（BMG）at variant strain rates were investigated by statistics analysis.Peak and clutter distribution of slip-avalanche magnitudes are displayed during stable plastic flows at strain rates of 2×10-4 s-1 and 5×10-5 s-1,respectively,which means that serration behavior depends on the strain rate.However,the remarkable agreement between measured slip-avalanche magnitudes and the scaling behavior,i.e.a universal complementary cumulative distribution function（CCDF）predicted by mean-field theory（MFT）model,indicates that the plasticity of the present Fe-based BMGs can be tuned by imposed strain rates：Smax^6）ε-λ.This tuned plasticity is elucidated with expended free-volume model.Moreover,the scaling behavior of serrated flows for other strain rates can be predicted as well.

Global gene expression analysis in liver of db/db mice treated with catalpol

Catalpol,a major bioactive component from Rehmannia glutinosa,which has been used to treat diabetes.The present study was designed to elucidate the anti-diabetic effect and mechanism of action for catalpol in db/db mice.The db/db mice were randomly divided into six groups(10/group) according to their blood glucose levels:db/db control,metformin(positive control),and four dose levels of catalpol treatment(25,50,100,and 200 mg·kg^(-1)),and 10 db/m mice were used as the normal control.All the groups were administered orally for 8 weeks.The levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG),random blood glucose(RBG),glucose tolerance,insulin tolerance,and glycated serum protein(GSP) and the globe gene expression in liver tissues were analyzed.Our results showed that catalpol treatment obviously reduced water intake and food intake in a dose-dependent manner.Catalpol treatment also remarkably reduce fasting blood glucose(FBG) and random blood glucose(RBG) in a dose-dependent manner.The RBG-lowering effect of catalpol was better than that of metformin.Furthermore,catalpol significantly improved glucose tolerance and insulin tolerance via increasing insulin sensitivity.Catalpol treatment significantly decreased GSP level.The comparisons of gene expression in liver tissues among normal control mice,db/db mice and catalpol treated mice(200 and 100 mg·kg^(-1)) indicated that there were significant increases in the expressions of 287 genes,whichwere mainly involved in lipid metabolism,response to stress,energy metabolism,and cellular processes,and significant decreases in the expressions of 520 genes,which were mainly involved in cell growth,death,immune system,and response to stress.Four genes expressed differentially were linked to glucose metabolism or insulin signaling pathways,including Irs1(insulin receptor substrate 1),Idh2(isocitrate dehydrogenase 2(NADP+),mitochondrial),G6pd2(glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase 2),and SOCS3(suppressor of cytokine signaling 3).In conclusion,catalpol ecerted significant hypoglycemic effect and remar

Zinc-ion hybrid fiber supercapacitors(FSCs)are promising energy storages for wearable electronics owing to their high energy density,good flexibility,and weavability.However,it is still a critical challenge to optimize the structure of the designed FSC to improve energy density and realize the continuous fabrication of super-long FSCs.Herein,we propose a braided coaxial zinc-ion hybrid FSC with several meters of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_x MXene cathode as core electrodes,and shell zinc fiber anode was braided on the surface of the Ti_(3)C_(2)T_x MXene fibers across the solid electrolytes.According to the simulated results using ANSYS Maxwell software,the braided structures revealed a higher capacitance compared to the spring-like structures.The resulting FSCs exhibited a high areal capacitance of 214 mF cm^(-2),the energy density of 42.8μWh cm^(-2)at 5 mV s^(-1),and excellent cycling stability with 83.58%capacity retention after 5000 cycles.The coaxial FSC was tied several kinds of knots,proving a shape-controllable fiber energy storage.Furthermore,the knitted FSC showed superior stability and weavability,which can be woven into watch belts or embedded into textiles to power smart watches and LED arrays for a few days.

New Type Austenite Dynamic Recrystallization of Microalloyed Forging Steels 38MnVS During Forging Process

Hot compression tests of microalloyed forging steels 38MnVS were carried out on the Gleeble-3800 thermo-mechanical simulator at the deformation temperatures from 950 to 1 150 ℃ with the strain rates ranging from 0.1 to 10 s^（-1）. The effects of the deformation temperature and strain rate on the austenite dynamic recrystallization and microstructural changes were researched. The experimental results show that the dynamic recrystallization accelerated with the increase of the deformation temperatures and the decrease of the strain rate. The activation energy of dynamic recrystallization was calculated, which was about 275.453 kJ/mol. The relation between the dynamic recrystallization and the Z-parameter was investigated, and the state chart of the dynamic recrystallization of the microalloyed forging steel 38MnVS was made according to the experimental data and the deformation parameters.

Nanostructured lipid carrier based topical gel of Ganoderma Triterpenoids for frostbite treatment

The objective of this study was to prepare nanostructured lipid carrier(NLC)-based topical gel of Ganoderma Triterpenoids(GTs) and evaluate their effects on frostbite treatment. GT-NLCs was prepared by the high pressure homogenization method and then characterized by morphology and analyses of particle size, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency(EE), and drug loading(DL). The NLCs was suitably gelled for skin permeation studies in vitro and pharmacodynamic evaluation in vivo, compared with the GT emulgel. The GT-NLC remained within the colloidal range and was uniformly dispersed after suitably gelled by carbopol preparation. Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) study showed GT-NLCs was spherical in shape. The EE(%) and DL(%) could reach up to(81.84 ± 0.60)% and(2.13 ± 0.12)%, respectively. The result of X-ray diffractograms(XRD) showed that GTs were in an amorphous state in the NLC-gel. In vitro permeation studies through rat skin indicated that the amount of GTs permeated through skin of GT-NLCs after 24 h was higher than that of GT emulsion, and GT-NLCs increased the accumulative amounts of GTs in epidermis 7.76 times greater than GT emulsion. GT-NLC-gel was found to possess superior therapeutic effect for frostbite, compared with the GT emulgel. The NLC based topical gel of GTs could improve-their therapeutic effect for frostbite.

Formulation of dried lignans nanosuspension with high redispersibility to enhance stability,dissolution,and oral bioavailability

Herpetospermum caudigerum lignans(HTL), one of the potential drugs with anti-hepatitis B virus and hepatoprotective effects, has limited clinical applications because of poor aqueous solubility and low bioavailability. Both herpetrione(HPE) and herpetin(HPN) are the most abundant ingredients in HTL and exhibit weak acidity. The purpose of the present study was to produce dried preparations of HTL(composed of HPE and HPN) nanosuspensions(HTL-NS) with high redispersibility using lyophilization technology. The HTL-NS was prepared by utilizing precipitation-combined homogenization technology based on acid-base neutralization reactions, and critical formulation and process parameters affecting the characteristics of HTL-NS were optimized. The resultant products were characterized by particle size analysis, SEM, XRD, stability, solubility, dissolution and in vivo bioavailability. HTL-NS showed near-spherical-shaped morphology and the size was 243 nm with a narrow PDI value of 0.187. The dried preparations with a relatively large particle size of 286 nm and a PDI of 0.215 were achieved by using 4%(W/V) mannitol as cryoprotectants, and had a better stability at 4 or 25 oC for 2 months, compared to HTL-NS. In the in vitro test, the dried preparations showed markedly increased solubility and dissolution velocity. Besides, in the in vivo evaluation, it exhibited significant increases in AUC0–t, C_(max), MRT and a decrease in T_(max), compared to the raw drug.. In conclusion, our results provide a basis for the development of a drug delivery system for poorly water-soluble ingredients with p H-dependent solubility.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)-induced multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children(MIS-C)is a life-threatening illness that has been reported in the United States and Europe.It affects multiple organ systems and often requires patient admission to an intensive care unit.Although some features of MIS-C overlap with Kawasaki disease,MIS-C is more common among older children and adolescents,more often affects cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems,and more frequently presents with elevated inflammatory markers.Rapid and complete clinical recovery is possible in nearly all patients following immunomodulation therapy.Thus far,MIS-C pathophysiology and long-term prognosis are not sufficiently clear;further studies are needed.
