Nasopalatine Canal Revisited: An Insight to Anterior Maxillary Implants

Purpose: The study was performed to evaluate variability in nasopalatine canal using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in relation to age and gender. The study also provides an insight while considering anterior maxillary implants. Materials and Methods: The study included 200 subjects aged between 19 and 67 years who were divided into the following 3 groups: 1) 19 - 34 years old;2) 35 - 49 years old;3) >50 years old. The male and female subjects were 104 and 96 respectively. After obtaining a prior consent, CBCT was performed using a standard exposure and patient positioning protocol. The CBCT volume was sliced in three planes (X, Y, and Z) and was sequentially analyzed for the location, morphology and morphometric dimensions of the nasopalatine canal. The correlation of age and gender with all the variables were evaluated. Results: The present study revealed statistically significant differences in the length of the nasopalatine canal based on the age group. The slanted and the cylindrical variety of the nasopalatine canal were commonly observed in the study. However, no statistical differences were noted in the other variables such as number of openings at the nasal fossa, diameter of the incisive fossa, angulation of the canal as viewed in the sagittal sections and antero-posterior dimensions of the canal in the sagittal sections. Conclusion: The present study demonstrates the variability observed in the anatomy and morphology of the nasopalatine canal which is an important landmark for placing dental implants in the anterior maxillary region.

Objectives: The present study was designed to assess the markers of atherosclerosis including Insulin resistance (IR) in na?ve patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Methods: Eighty consecutive na?ve patients with CRF were taken up for study. They were divided into non-diabetic group, Group A (N = 50) and diabetic group, Group B (N = 30). Twenty healthy individuals were taken as controls, Group C (N = 20). Patients undergoing renal replacement therapy, having chronic liver disease and with concomitant acute or chronic infection were excluded from the study. routine hemogram, fasting plasma glucose, fasting serum insulin ,lipid profile, renal function tests, C-reactive protein (CRP), serum uric acid levels, ultrasound of abdomen and ultrasound B scan for carotid intima medial thickness (CIMT) were done for all patients and control. The data collected were analyzed to inter-correlate the parameters using SPSS 16. Results: On comparing parameters between the three groups, values of HOMA-IR, CRP, uric acid, VLDL and CIMT were significantly higher in Groups A and B than Group C whereas values of HOMA-B, HDL and LDL were lower in both groups A and Bas compared to group C. HOMA-IR had significant negative correlation with creatinine clearance (Crcl) (r = -0.449, p = 0.01) in Group A and (r = -0.483, p = 0.007) in Group B. HOMA-IR had significant positive correlation with CIMT (r = 0.413, p = 0.03) in Group A and (r = 0.581, p = 0.001) in Group B. Crcl had significant negative correlation with CIMT(r = -0.375, p = 0.007) in Group A and (r = -0.705, p = 0.001) in Group B. Crclnegatively correlated with C-reactive protein (r = -0.460, p = 0.001) in Group A and (r = 0.431, p = 0.01) in Group B. HOMA-B positively correlated with Crcl (r = 0.667, p = 0.001) and also with CIMT (r = -0.531, p = 0.003) among Group B individuals. Spirulina is an edible algae and has a wide range of pharmaceutical applications in addition to its nutritional value. Isolation and identification of several Spirulina species were conducted in the western part of Mexico especially in the state of Jalisco. The purification strategy consisted of five optimized processing steps: 1) washing and centrifugation, 2) chemical treatment, 3) micromanipulation, 4) serial dilution, and 5) plating. Four species were isolated from different locations and two out of these four species were identified taxonomically up to the species level: Spirulina subsalsa and S. major. For short term conservation (30 days), the strains were maintained in liquid and solid agar medium at 10?C and 4?C. For medium term (few months), they were preserved in solid medium under a dried condition as agar flakes and for long term, cryopreservation was employed by using 5% and 10% DMSO, glycerol and methanol as osmoprotectants in liquid nitrogen. For short term preservation nearly 90% liquid and 100% agar recovered strains were viable after one month at both temperatures. In the case of the agar flakes, cells were viable after three months of conservation at room temperature. Cryopreservation did not give any suitable results after three months of conservation. Variable and two-step improved cryopreservation processes are now in progress for conservation.

目的探讨n-3多不饱和脂肪酸对小鼠骨折愈合的影响。方法构建了Fat-1转基因小鼠与野生小鼠的长骨骨折模型并使用髓内针固定。分别在造模后的2、3、4周通过组织学、影像学评估分析各组小鼠骨折愈合情况。结果结果显示,在造模后的2、3、4周,Fat-1转基因小鼠的骨折愈合速度显著快于野生小鼠对照组。此外,X线及小动物CT扫描结果显示,Fat-1转基因小鼠造模后的骨痂生长、骨重构均早于野生对照组小鼠。结论内源性的n-3多不饱和脂肪酸可以加速小鼠的骨折愈合。n-3多不饱和脂肪酸极有可能是促进骨折愈合的营养因素之一。

Foot-and-mouth disease(FMD) is a highly contagious and economically devastating disease of livestock, primarily affecting cattle, buffalo and pigs. FMD virus serotypes O, A and Asia1 are prevalent in India and systematic efforts are on to control and eventually eradicate the disease from the country. FMD epidemiology is complex due to factors like co-circulation, extinction, emergence and re-emergence of genotypes/lineages within the three serotypes, animal movement, diverse farm practices and large number of susceptible livestock in the country. Systematic vaccination, prompt diagnosis, strict biosecurity measures, and regular monitoring of vaccinal immunity and surveillance of virus circulation are indispensible features for the effective implementation of the control measures. Availability of suitable companion diagnostic tests is very important in this endeavour. In this review, the diagnostic assays developed and validated in India and their contribution in FMD control programme is presented.

Background and Objectives: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is more common in diabetic patients. There are limited studies on clinical, biochemical and histological features of NAFLD patients who are diabetic. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes in a cohort of NAFLD patients and to compare anthropometry, biochemical and metabolic parameters and hepatic histology of diabetic NAFLD patients with non-diabetic NAFLD patients. Methods: 515 consecutive NAFLD patients diagnosed by abdominal ultrasound and 100 healthy controls were subjected to detailed anthropometric measurements and biochemical assays including blood sugars, LFT, lipid profile and HOMA. Diabetes and prediabetes were defined according to WHO criteria. Patients were categorized and compared according to the presence or absence of diabetes. Liver biopsy was performed in 240 NAFLD patients and the liver histology was also compared between the two groups. Statistical analysis was performed on SPSS 16. Results: 124 out of the 515 (24.08%) NAFLD patients were diabetics, 118 out of 515 (22.9%) were pre-diabetics, while only 3 out of 100 controls had impaired glucose tolerance. Diabetic patients were older. NAFLD patients with diabetes had significantly higher waist circumference [98.02 ± 12.01 vs 93.89 ± 8.8, p = 0.000] as compared to the NAFLD patients without diabetes. Fasting blood sugar [124 ± 46.3 vs 90.8 ± 10.2, p = 0.000], triglyceride level [218.4 ± 17.6 vs 192 ± 9, p = 0.03] and HOMA-IR [2.6 ± 0.36 vs 1.84 ± 0.2, p < 0.001] were significantly higher in NAFLD-diabetes group. Hypertension [35% vs 11.7%, p = 0.000] was commoner in diabetic NAFLD patients. Histopathology in the diabetic patients revealed steatosis alone in 34.2% cases, borderline NASH in 31.4% and definite NASH in 34.2%. Fatty change alone was noted in 16.5% cases, borderline NASH in 34.1%, while 49% had definite NASH on liver biopsy of NAFLD patients without diabetes. Fibrosis was noted

对于固体推进剂火箭燃烧可采用一维模型预测固体推进剂火箭发动机的侵蚀燃烧特性。用取决于不同燃烧速率的速度来表示固体推进剂的侵蚀燃烧。数值积分控制偏微分方程就可得到分析结果。使用非定常公式预测固体推进剂侵蚀燃烧特性。计算了各种不同药形的复合推进剂和双基推进剂的侵蚀燃烧特性。测出了各种不同药形装填密度(药柱初始通孔面积与喉面积之比)对压力时间曲线的影响。现有分析指出,装填密度是确定某一特定药形及化学成分的推进剂侵蚀燃烧特性的最重要参数之一。研究表明低燃速推进剂比高燃速推进剂反映出具有较大的侵蚀燃烧效应。同时也表明长方药形与圆柱药形相比具有较大的初始压力峰,相反压力很快就稳定到一般与装填密度无关的平衡压力。

Lichen exploration of West Kameng district and Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh state,India located in the Eastern Himalayas reveal seventy nine lichens represented primarily by foliose(73%),a few fruticose(15%),dimorphic(8%),leprose(2%)and crustose(1%)*** these,seventeen species,one fruticose,sixteen foliose growth forms,belonging to 12 genera and 5 families are recorded as new additions to the lichen flora of Arunachal Pradesh *** lichens were sampled at an elevation ranging from 1618 meter to 4509 *** diagnostic features of new additions to macrolichens of Arunachal Pradesh based on the phytogeographic affinities and distribution of species is briefly described.

我们建立了孩性氧气转炉(BOF)殊钢过程的动力学模型,用来定量地损述吹炼过程中的精炼动力学和热流的变化。以前的研究已经开发了通用模型来指述转炉炼钢过程的动力学和反应机型。对精炼期间热流的了解有助子从能源消耗和减少整体过剧热量(热损失)的角度优化工巴。目前的工作旨在开发一种方法,一旦知道了精炼曲线,就可以知道吹炼期间的热流。在本研究中,解时热是根据Cicutti等人的工业试验和Imphos的试验工厂数据所对应的精炼曲线计算照。我们开发的模型揭示了,通过识别总体过刻热量形成的时间技,来进行过积优化的各种可能压。通过分杯Cicui的数据,可知,在6到14分钟的吹炼期间,平均产生7.5MJ/min/铁水的过剧热量,此外,本研究表明,废钢量、助效剂添加量和氧气流量等因数对精炼过程中整体过剂热量的优化利用起着重安作用。
