The advancement in cellular communications has enhanced the special attention given to the study of resource allocation *** study is to enhance communications to attain efficiency and thereby offers fairness to all users in the face of congestion experienced anytime a new product is rolled *** comparative analysis was done on the performance of Enhanced Proportional Fair,Qos-Aware Proportional Fair and Logarithmic rule scheduling algorithms in Long Term Evolution in this *** algorithms were simulated using LTE system toolbox in MATLAB and their performances were compared using Throughput,Packet delay and Packet Loss *** results showed Qos-Aware Proportional Fair has a better performance in all the metrics used for the evaluation.

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is designed to revolutionize mobile broadband technology with key considerations of higher data rate, improved power efficiency, low latency and better quality of service. This work analyzes the impact of resource scheduling algorithms on the performance of LTE (4G) and WCDMA (3G) networks. In this paper, a full illustration of LTE system is given together with different scheduling algorithms. Thereafter, 3G WCDMA and 4G LTE networks were simulated using Simulink simulator embedded in MATLAB and performance evaluations were carried out. The performance metrics used for the evaluations are average system throughput, packet delay, latency and allocation of fairness using Round Robin, Best CQI and Proportional fair Packet Scheduling Algorithms. The results of the evaluations on both networks were analysed. The results showed that 4G LTE network performs better than 3G WCDMA network in all the three scheduling algorithms used.

The growth in wireless technologies applications makes the necessity of providing a reliable communication over wireless networks become *** real time communication in wireless medium poses a significant challenge due to its poor delivery *** this study,a recovery and redundancy model based on sequential time division multiple access(S-TDMA)for wireless communication is *** media access control(MAC)layer of the S-TDMA determines which station should transmit at a given time slot based on channel state of the *** of the system models were carried out using MATLAB SIMULINK *** blocks from the signal processing and communication block sets were used to model the communication *** S-TDMA performance is evaluated with total link reliability,system throughput,average probability of correct delivery before deadline and system *** evaluation results displayed in graphs when compared with instant retry and drop of frame were found to be reliable in recovering loss packets.

Groundwater Evolution, Hydrochemical Facies and Quality Evaluation for Irrigation Use in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria

Hydrochemical facies, groundwater evolution, and physicochemical reactions between soil or rock and water are of considerable importance when evaluating or predicting the nature of anthropogenic impacts on groundwater quality. In this respect a total of 67 ground water samples were collected randomly in Akure, southwestern, Nigeria from hand pump/dug wells and analyzed for major cations and anions. The domination of cations and anions was in the order of Ca2+ > K+ > Na+ > Mg2+ and ?> Cl- > ?> ?respectively. The pH and Eh of the water samples show an acidic condition, with low salinity hazard (generally less than 250 μS/cm). The Piper classification for hydrogeochemical facies indicates carbonate hardness (secondary alkalinity) exceeds 50% that is by alkaline earths and weak acids, with Ca2+ + Mg2+ + ?water-type. This also suggests a meteoric origin of water quality caused by rock-water interaction. The ratio of ?and Cl- is greater than 1 and implies recharge area or upper water flow course of carbonate rocks (interaction of water with aquifer material). The Na+:Cl- is less than 0.7 signifying loss of Na+ through precipitation of evaporating water;the water is Ca2+ rich and Na+ depleted with Mg2+:Ca2+ less than 0.5 and Na+:K+ less than 15. The Na+:Ca2+ (<1) indicates reverse ionic exchange. The Ca2+:?+ ?for the samples is less than 1.0 suggestive of flow of water through the normal hydrological cycle. The calculated range of values of sodium absorption ratio (1.89 - 26.42), permeability index (42.67 - 170.24), residue sodium carbonate (-1 to 5), magnesium ratio (4 - 53), Kelly ratio (0.04 - 0.84), percent sodium (0.41 - 3.45) suggest good water suitable for irrigation purposes. In addition, the Wilcox plot shows that 98% of the water samples belong to “good to permissible category” for irrigation use.

Objective:Stress is becoming an unavoidable threat in recent times,there has been increasing interest by researchers in the use of naturally occurring biologically active compounds with medicinal value to cure body *** present work was carried out to investigate the effect of methanol extract of Basella alba leaves on stress in Wistar rats(Rattus norvegicus).Methods:A total of 35 male rats were used in this *** were grouped into seven groups of five rats *** 1(normal control)was received 10 m L/kg normal *** 2 contained restraint stress rats *** 3 contained forced swim stress rats *** 4 and 5 were treated with 60 mg/kg of *** extract(BAE)thereafter subjected to restraint and forced swim stresses *** 6 and 7 were treated with 120 mg/kg of BAE thereafter subjected to restraint and forced swim stresses *** procedures were carried out at the end of first and third ***:In the stressed rats,there were significant increases(P<0.05)in fasting blood glucose and white blood cell count while there were significant decreases in superoxide dismutase activity and glutathione concentration when compared to group *** were significant decreases(P<0.05)in blood glucose and white blood cell count and significant increases in superoxide dismutase and glutathione concentrations in BAE treated rats when compared to group 2 and *** of the significant differences were either dose or duration ***:In conclusion,results from this research suggest that BAE alleviates hyperglycaemia,chronic activation of immune system and generation of free radicals due to stress in Wistar rats.

Survey of food handlers in bukas (a type of local restaurant) in Lagos, Nigeria about typhoid fever

Purpose: The study was conducted to survey the knowledge and behavioural practices of food handlers in bukas (a type of local restaurant) in Nigeria with the aim of assessing the hygiene practices of food handlers and whether they were knowledgeable about typhoid fever and its mode of transmission. Methods: One hundred and seventy four (174) Respondents were ad- ministered questionnaires on their sociode- mographic characteristics, behavioural practices and knowledge of typhoid fever. Results: Ma- jority of the food handlers drank pure water (32.1%), borehole water (32.6%) and public tap water (31.1%) at the about the same frequecy. More than half (62.2%) washed their hands with water only before eating while 27.7% did not wash their hands always before preparing food. After using toilets, 71.9% washed their hands with soap and water while 28.1% washed their hands with only water. When asked if they had heard about typhoid fever 90% said they had heard, out of which15.6% did not know how it was contracted while the others had partial knowledge. Conclusion: Food handlers play a prominent role in the transmission of typhoid fever and so it is important that the food handlers are well informed about their hygiene status and the causes of typhoid fever trans- mission and ways by which typhoid fever spread is prevented. This will go a long way to help reduce the incidence of typhoid fever in the country.
