In this article, we investigated the influence of size and initial water content on the effective diffusion coefficient of sweet potatoes samples cut into cubic and cylindrical shapes. The sizes of the cubic samples are 0.5, 1, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.5 and 3 cm edge with a respective initial water content of 2.7, 3.76, 3.48, 2.68, 3.28, 2.17 and 2.29 kg/kgms. For cylindrical samples, the radius is set at 0.5 cm and sample heights are 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4 cm with respective water contents of 2.2, 3.19, 2.85, 2.1, 2.17, 2.39 and 2.03 kg/kgms. The effective diffusion coefficients of cubic samples are of the order of 10−10 and 10−9 m2∙s−1 grew with sample edge. As for the cylindrical samples, the effective diffusion coefficients were of the order of 10−9 m2∙s−1 and there was no linear correlation between cylinder height and their effective diffusion coefficient. As for the examination of the initial water content on the effective diffusion coefficient, it turned out that the initial water content had no influence on the effective diffusion coefficient of the sweet potato samples.

This study highlighted the physical transformation that agri-food products undergo during their drying. This transformation enormously affects the customer’s choice and the profit margin of the dried product promoter. The example of the experimental study of the potato reveals that the product continually changes its dimensions during its drying. The more the product loses its water, the more the dimensions decrease. The results initially showed that the water parameters such as mass or water content decrease according to the drying principle. The dimensions length L., width l and thickness e. decrease following a linear trend whose mathematical equations which des.ribe them are determined using the office tool, excel. This trend has.repercussions on the s.rface and volume parameters which in turn decreases almost linearly with the product’s water content. Note that the coefficient r2 is not always acceptable, confirming the complex nature of the behavior of organic products.

Introduction: Human rabies is a major public health problem in many African countries, including Côte d’Ivoire. The present work aims at des.ribing the eco-epidemiological characteristics of human rabies cases.recorded in Côte d’Ivoire. Methods: This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional des.riptive study based on epidemiological s.rveillance data that ran from september 2014 to december 2017. The clinical data were extracted from the database of the human rabies epidemiological s.rveillance management s.rvice of the National Institute of Public Hygiene’s.rabies centre. These data cover the period from 1 January 2012 to 31 december 2017. results: Human rabies is endemic in Côte d’Ivoire, with most people exposed in the south and especially in the west of the country. There was no association between any of the climatological parameters (temperature, humidity, rainfall) and the occurrence of human rabies during the months of expos.re to rabies infection. Conclusion: Ultimately, effective prevention and control of human rabies.requires a thorough understanding of the links between climatological parameters and rabies. Health authorities must take ownership of these results if we are to achieve our goal of eliminating rabies by 2030.

The dimbokro health dis.rict has one of the highest incidences of malaria in Côte d’Ivoire, despite numerous campaigns to dis.ribute Long-Acting Impregnated Mosquito Nets (LLINs). Given this obs.rvation, what are the population’s attitudes towards LLINs that could explain the high endemicity of malaria in dimbokro? The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of people in the health area of Nofou, one of the villages in the dimbokro health dis.rict where malaria is most prevalent, with a view to s.rengthening malaria control s.rategies. A collection of historical health data (malaria cases and LLIN usage rates) and a cross-sectional questionnaire s.rvey was carried out from July 20 to August 03, 2022 in 400 households selected by systematic random sampling. data were entered using Epi Info 7 and multivariate statistical analyses were performed using IBM sPss 22 software. In the dimbokro health dis.rict, the rate of LLIN use was negatively correlated (r = -0.771) with malaria incidence over the six years of historical data collection. Households had an average of 53% good knowledge, 68.6% good practices and 28.4% good attitudes towards LLINs. The study also revealed that the main factors explaining LLIN use in the Nofou health area are mosquito bite (Ora = 5.29 (1.12 - 25.04)), age of household members (Ora = 1.07 (1.01 - 1.14)) and marital status (Ora = 8.45 (1.70 - 45.02)). Awareness.raising on the use of LLINs should be intensified in the dimbokro health dis.rict. Other control s.rategies, such as vector control and environmental sanitation, should be considered to combat malaria.

Cirina butyrospermi is the main lepidoptera whose larvae constitute one of the main sources of edible insect protein in human food and are consumed by many ethnic groups in Burkina Faso and elsewhere in Africa. The pres.rvation and mass production of this useful insect call for increased knowledge of its biological parameters. This study was carried out at the Farako-Ba experimental, environmental and agricultural research station of the Burkina Faso Institute of Environment and Agricultural research. The approach has been to feed the larvae individually in the petri dishes wish the leaves of shea and then to meas.re the different biological parameters. Laboratory results—under temperature conditions varying between 24.5°C - 31°C and relative humidity varying between 58.40% - 84.80% with a 12:12 photoperiod—show that the incubation time of eggs is 30 days on average. The development cycle, which includes five larval stages, all feeding on shea leaves, lasts 33.3 ± 3.5 days. Adults (imago) live on average 2.28 ± 0.63 days for males and 2.47 ± 0.56 days for females. Finally, the average number of eggs laid per female is 283.19 ± 96, with an average fertility rate of 84.26% ± 2.16%. Thus, some biological parameters of this insect in our study conditions are now known. These results could contribute to knowledge of the bio-ecology of this insect, improving prospects for diversification and increased nutritional quality for humans.

The physical transformations in terms of contraction of okra dimensions during convective drying were examined. during drying, the lateral and longitudinal dimensions of okra decrease over time. The lateral dimensions go from their initial value to around 53%, 65% and 66% of this value after 530 min. The length of the two samples used goes from 8.65 and 9.02 cm to 6.79 and 7.52 cm after 14,300 min, i.e. a variation of 78.50% and 83.37%. All the two directions give variations almost linear depending on the water content. These linear contractions.result in a volume contraction of the okra. It considerably decreases in volume during the drying process. The volume goes from 831.32 cmsup>3sup> to 367.57 cmsup>3sup> in min, a variation of 44.22%. The isotropic index reveals that okra does not behave the same in the lateral and longitudinal directions. It contracts its diameter more than its length.

This present work solves the problem of initial shape influence on transfer during convective drying. A characteristic dimension is found for the cubic, cylindrical and spherical-shaped samples of the sweet potato. This characteristic dimension corresponds to the diameter d for the sphere, to the edge a for the cube and the diameter = height d = H for the cylinder. Unlike the sphere where this characteristic dimension is perfect, the cubic and cylindrical shapes have space factors which are, among other things, angles and borders. By fixing the same characteristic dimensions, we end up with overlapping curves, showing identical and uniform transfers.

Burkina Faso, an 80% agricultural country, today copes the massive use of agricultural inputs to boost productivity. However, these pesticides are sources of pollution of water resources. This is how, the objective of this work was to take stock of the inputs used on the Pic of sindou rice perimeter and to characterize the vulnerability of the aquifer to these products. The study took place from February to september 2019, where two hundred farmers of the perimeter were investigated on the type and quantity of fertilizers and pesticides used in off-season rice farming activities. The drAsTIC method was used to map the vulnerability of the groundwater resource to these pollutants. Producers use NPK and Urea at 90% and 10% to the organic manure as fertilizers, and herbicides and insecticides with the actives ingredient are Glyphosate, dimethoate and 2.4 d amine salt. The vulnerability to agricultural pollution of the aquifer remains low, but the risk of contamination from pesticides.remains possible.
