This is an exploratory investigation to search for the presence of an acceleration in global sea surface temperature rise, which is essential to identify anthropogenic contributions to the climate change during the 20 th century. A weighted statistical model with an acceleration parameter was built progressively to reconstruct the variations in the global sea surface temperature data considering statistically significant confounders and autoregressive disturbances in the process. From the preliminary residual analysis of a weighted regression model, emerged a parsimonious model with first order autoregressive disturbances with a deterministic trend, acceleration and periodicity of 69 yr and its 138 yr subharmonic. The final model solution, selected from 29 alternative combinations of the model parameters using Mallows' s Cp metric, revealed a statistically significant deterministic trend, 0.40 ± 0.03C/c(p < 0.01), and acceleration, 0.67 ± 0.11C/c^2(p < 0.01) explaining 33% of the global sea surface temperature variations. The combined yearly trend and acceleration in global sea surface temperature as predicted by the model,exhibit a strong correlation with the yearly increase in the global CO^2 concentrations observed during the 20th century.

Objective: To assess and compare the cytotoxic, genotoxic, apoptotic and reactive oxygen species(ROS) generating effects of naringenin(NG) and its new derived compound naringenin-oxime(NG-Ox) on MCF-7, HT-29, PC-12 cancer and L-929 normal cell ***: The cells were incubated with different doses of NG-Ox and NG(50–1 000 mmol/L) for 24 h. The cell viability was assessed based on ATP cell viability *** accumulation of ROS was determined using the fluorescent probes 2070-dichlorodihydrofluorescin diacetate. Genotoxic effects were evaluated by alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis assay(comet assay) and, the apoptotic effect was evaluated by acridine orange staining at below the IC50 ***: Both NG-Ox and NG exhibited cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects and resulted in increased ROS values in a dose-dependent manner. The effects were more pronounced on cancer cell lines. The cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects of NG-Ox were higher than that of NG in all cell lines. Significant correlations were observed between cell viability, DNA damage, apoptosis and ROS, in all cell lines exposed to either NG-Ox or ***: This study showed that both NG-Ox and NG possess cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic activities through the production of ROS on cells, NG-Ox being the more effective one. Therefore, derived compound of NG might be used as antiproliferative agents for the treatment of cancer.

INTRODUCTION Synthetic cannabinoids are increasingly used all over the world as marijuana substitutes. They have various names such as spice and bonzai in different countries. Cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events associated with cocaine, heroin and amphetamine abuse have been frequently reported. However, stroke associated with the synthetic cannabinoids use is rarely reported. There are only a few case reports in association with synthetic cannabinoids use. Bernson-Leung et al described 2 cases that introduce a previously unreported association between synthetic cannabinoids use and ischemic stroke in young adults. Here, we report two patients with stroke that occured shortly after synthetic cannabinoids use.

Bilateral visual impairment has important impacts on health-related quality of life and its physical and psychological consequences are proposed to be comparable to other important chronic medical illnesses . Therefore in monocular patients, an unsuccessful surgical intervention that might lead to permanent visual loss would have some negative reflections on life quality of the patient.

A reciprocating extrusion （RE） process was used to improve the mechanical properties of Al-based composite manufactured using cast and powder metallurgy （PM）. AA 6063 cast and AA 6061 powders were used as the matrix materials, and the matrix was reinforced by 5% SiC （volume fraction） particles. The hardness and grain size of extruded samples decrease with increasing the number of extrusion pass, while the toughness and ductility increase. As the tensile strength of the samples decreases, the elongation of the extruded samples increases. Consequently, reciprocating extrusion is an effective method for improving the mechanical properties of metal matrix composites （MMC）.

AIM:To evaluate the outcome of anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha(anti-TNFα) therapy in outpatients with ulcerative colitis at a tertiary referral ***:All patients with a confirmed diagnosis of ulcerative colitis undergoing therapy with infliximab and/or adalimumab at the outpatient clinic for inflammatory bowel diseases at the University Hospital Heidelberg between January 2011 and February 2014 were retrospectively *** with a followup period of less than 6 mo from start of anti-TNFα therapy were *** records of all eligible individuals were carefully ***-free clinical remission of a duration of at least 3 mo,colectomy rate,duration of anti-TNFα therapy,need for anti-TNFα dose escalation,and the occurrence of adverse events were evaluated as the main outcome ***:Seventy-two patients were included(35 treated with infliximab,17 with adalimumab,20 with both consecutively).Median follow-up was 27 mo(range:6-87 mo).Steroid-free clinical remission was achieved by 22.2% of the patients(median duration:21 mo until end of follow-up; range:3-66 mo).Patients attaining steroid-free clinical remission displayed lower hemoglobin and albumin blood levels at the start of treatment than those who did not achieve *** overall colectomy rate was 20.8%.Nearly 50% of the patients underwent anti-TNFα dose escalation during the follow-up *** both the infliximab and the adalimumab treated patients,non-response to anti-TNFα therapy was the major reason for treatment discontinuation.18.2% of the infliximab-treated patients and 13.5% of the adalimumab-treated patients had to discontinue their therapy due to adverse ***:Real-life remission rates of ulcerative colitis under anti-TNFα are overall low,but some patients have a clear long-term benefit.

Poly (3-hydroxy alkanoate)s, PHAs, have been very attractive as biomaterials due to their biodegradability and biocompatibility. These hydrophobic natural polyesters, PHAs, need to have hydrophilic character particularly for drug delivery systems. In this manner, poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophilic functional groups such as amine, hydroxyl, carboxyl and sulfonic acid have been introduced into the PHAs in order to obtain amphiphilic polymers. This review involves in the synthesis and characterization of the amphiphilic PHAs.
