Analysis of intrahepatic sarcomatoid cholangiocarcinoma:Experience from 11 cases within 17 years

BACKGROUND Intrahepatic sarcomatoid chonalgiocarcinoma(s-CCC) is an extremely rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of hepatobiliary system malignancies, and its pathophysiology is not well known. On the hypothesis that its clinical, serologic,or radiologic diagnosis are not fully understood and its prognosis is poor, we investigated the distinguishing features of s-CCC compared with those of intrahepatic bile duct adenocarcinoma [cholangiocellular carcinoma(CCC)] in patients from a single *** To analyze the clinical, serologic, imaging, and histopathologic characteristics of intrahepatic s-CCC patients diagnosed in a single *** The clinical, serologic, imaging, and histopathologic features of 227 patients diagnosed with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(IHCC) in a single medical center during the last 17 years were analyzed. The characteristics of 11 patients with s-CCC were compared with those of 216 patients with *** The number of patients with s-CCC who presented fever and abdominal pain and past history of chronic viral hepatitis or liver cirrhosis(LC) was higher than that of patients with CCC. In imaging studies, patients with s-CCC showed relatively aggressive features. However, no clear distinction was observed between s-CCC and CCC based on other clinical, serologic or radiologic examination results. An accurate diagnosis could be made only via a histopathologic examination through immunohistochemical staining. The clinical course of s-CCC was generally aggressive, and patients had a relatively poor *** In patients with s-CCC, early diagnosis through biopsy and aggressive treatment,including surgical resection, are important.

Phase-pure Na3V2(PO4)2F3 embedded in carbon matrix through a facile polyol synthesis as a potential cathode for high performance sodium-ion batteries

In this study,a pseudo-layered Na super-ionic conductor of Na3V2(PO4)2F3 (NVPF)/C cathode for sodium-ion batteries is prepared successfully using a facile polyol refluxing process without any impurity *** X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement results confirm that NVPF possesses tetragonal NASICON-type lattice with a space group of P42/*** this preparative method,polyol is utilized as a solvent as well as a carbon *** presence of nanosized NVPF particles in the carbon network is confirmed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM).The existence of carbon is analyzed by Raman scattering and elemental *** applied as a Na-storage material in a potential window of 2.0-4.3 V,the electrode exhibits two flat voltage plateaus at 3.7 and 4.2 V with an electrochemically active V^3+/V^4+ redox *** addition,Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C composite achieved a retention capacity of ~ 88% even after 1,500 cycles at 15 ***,at high current densities of 30 and 50 C,Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C cathode retains the specific discharge capacities of 108.4 and 105.9 mAh·g-1,respectively,revealing the structural stability of the material prepared through a facile polyol refluxing method.

Transcription factor IRF8 controls Thl-like regulatory T-cell function

Recent studies have suggested that regulatory T （Treg） cells comprise a heterogeneous population that regulates various aspects of the immune response, and that Treg cells use the factors that are expressed in their target cells to regulate them. We searched for factors that regulate Thl response in Treg cells using a meta-analysis. In the process, we discovered that transcription factor interferon regulatory factor 8 （I RF8） was selectively expressed in Treg and Th I cells. IRF8-deficient Treg cells showed defective expression of CXCR3 and aberrant expression of the 114 and 1117genes. Upon treatment with alpha galactosyI-C18-ceramide （aGaI-C18-Cer）, IRF8-deficient mice showed defective Treg cell recruitment in the liver. Eliciting Thl immune response by anti-CD40 antibody injection in mice induced IRF8 expression in Treg cells. The expression of IRF8 was induced by Foxp3 in Treg cells, IRF8 had no effect on T-bet expression in Treg and vice versa. Thus, our results strongly suggest that IRF8 controls Thl immune response in Treg cells independent of T-bet.

Experimental Investigation of Flexible Hawkmoth-like Wings on the Wing-wake Interaction in Hovering Flight

To study wing-wake interaction for various wing flexibilities, force measurements and digital particle image velocimetry were carried out on flapping hawkmoth-like wings in a water tank. Wing thickness was employed as a design variable for the wing flexi- bility distributions. Abrupt flap-down and phase delay in flexible wings influenced the behaviors of the Leading-Edge Vortex （LEV） and Trailing-Edge Vortex （TEV）, generated by the previous stroke. While the rigid wing exhibited a detached LEV at the end of the stroke, wing with specific flexibilities obtained attached LEVs. The attached LEVs induced a relatively rapid flow toward the wing surface as a result of encountering the TEV, and the flow caused a higher lift peak. On the other hand, the wings with larger wing deformations generated distinctive changes in LEV and TEV behaviors. The flap-down helped the TEV form closer to the wing surface, and it thus caused a downwash rather than wing-wake interaction. Furthermore, the most flexible wing had a newly-formed pair of LEVs above the wing during the wing reversal, thereby being not able to generate the wing-wake interaction. These results help to understand the different vortex structures generated by flexible wings during the wing reversal and the corresponding effects of wing-wake interaction.

Development of single-action,two-step clinching system using finite element analysis

Traditional manufacturing processes for bending and combining the upper and lower heat insulation plates for a car catalytic converter need two kinds of bending dies. This study was carried out to develop a single-action, two-step clinching system for clinching heat insulation plates. To design the operating mechanism for this clinching system, finite element analysis was used to estimate the bending load needed and to predict the bent shape of the heat insulation plate. Then a recovery and cushioning system was designed for the bending die. It is expected that this new process will improve the manufacturing quality of heat insulation plates and will reduce manufacturing cost. And a higher value-added technique for mold and pressing systems was introduced.

In optics,the refractive index of a material and its spatial distribution determine the characteristics of light ***,exploring both low-and high-index materials/structures is an important consideration in this *** cavities,which are defined as low-index bases,exhibit a variety of unusual or even unexplored optical characteristics and are used in numerous functionalities including diffraction gratings,localised optical antennas and low-loss *** this report,we discuss the fabrication of hollow cavities of various sizes(O.2-5μm in diameter)that are supported by conformal dielectric/metal shells,as well as their specific applications in the ultraviolet(photodetectors),visible(light-emitting diodes,solar cells and metalenses),near-infrared(thermophotovoltaics)and mid-infrared(radiative coolers)*** findings demonstrate that hollow cavities tailored to specific spectra and applications can serve as versatile optical platforms to address the limitations of current optoelectronic ***,hollow cavity embedded structures are highly elastic and can minimise the thermal stress caused by high *** such,future applications will likely include high-temperature devices such as thermophotovoltaics and concentrator photovoltaics.

Enhancing the efficiency and scalability of perovskite solar cells through pseudo-halide salt addition

Organic-inorganic halide perovskites have significant potential for application in next-generation solar ***,their applications are limited by challenges associated with large-area processability and long-term stability owing to the presence of pinholes and defect ***,we incorporated cesium formate in a perovskite active layer using a sequential perovskite fabrication process to eliminate the defect sites of perovskites and improve the film processability via roll-to-roll(R2R)*** addition of cesium formate salt to the PbI2 layer influences the perovskite crystal formation behavior as well as increases the perovskite crystallinity and decreases the defect ***,cesium formate addition eliminated small PbI2 grains and smoothed the perovskite surface,resulting in a large crystal grain *** formate ions interact with the PbI2 component and passivate halide vacancy defects,reducing nonradiative recombination and improving charge ***,the treated perovskite films were highly stable in air,exhibiting improved efficiency retention over time and achieving a power conversion efficiency(PCE)of>22%compared to the ***,the additive-treated perovskite film was processed using the R2R method,achieving a high PCE of>14%with minimal hysteresis.

The latest developments in bio-inspired neuromorphic vision sensors can be summarized in 3 keywords:smaller,faster,and smarter.(1)Smaller:Devices are becoming more compact by integrating previously separated components such as sensors,memory,and processing *** a prime example,the transition from traditional sensory vision computing to in-sensor vision computing has shown clear benefits,such as simpler circuitry,lower power consumption,and less data redundancy.(2)Swifter:Owing to the nature of physics,smaller and more integrated devices can detect,process,and react to input more *** addition,the methods for sensing and processing optical information using various materials(such as oxide semiconductors)are evolving.(3)Smarter:Owing to these two main research directions,we can expect advanced applications such as adaptive vision sensors,collision sensors,and nociceptive *** review mainly focuses on the recent progress,working mechanisms,image pre-processing techniques,and advanced features of two types of neuromorphic vision sensors based on near-sensor and in-sensor vision computing methodologies.

Specific oceanographic characteristics and phytoplankton responses influencing the primary production around the Ulleung Basin area in spring

The East Sea(Sea of Japan)is a marginal,semi-closed sea in the northwestern *** Ulleung Basin area,which is located near the subpolar front of the East Sea,is known to have high primary production and good fisheries in spring *** episodic wind-driven events during the spring of 2017,horizontal and vertical profiles of physical chemical biological factors were investigated at 29 stations located in the Ulleung Basin *** addition,growth responses of phytoplankton communities to nutrient additions were evaluated by bioassay experiments to understand the fluctuation of phytoplankton *** of strong northwestern wind,phytoplankton biomass was scattered and upwelling phenomenon might be suppressed in this *** phytoplankton abundances in the coastal stations were significantly higher than offshore and island *** contrast,the nutrient and chlorophyll a(Chl a)concentrations and the phytoplankton biomass were quite low in all *** was dominated group(>75.1%for coastal,40.0%for offshore and 43.6%for island stations).In the algal bioassays,the phytoplankton production was stimulated by N *** in vivo Chl a values in the+N and+NP treatments were significantly higher than the values in the control and the+P *** on the field survey,the higher nutrients in coastal waters affected the growth of diatom assemblages,however,little prosperity of phytoplankton was observed in the offshore waters despite the injection of sufficient nutrients in bioassay *** growth of phytoplankton depended on the initial cell *** of results indicated that a dominant northwestern wind led to a limited nutrients condition at euphotic layers,and the low level of biomass supply from the coasts resulted in low primary *** supplying nutrients and introducing phytoplankton through the currents are critical to maintain the high productivity in the Ulleung Basin area of the East Sea.
