3D-printed scaffolds with 2D hetero-nanostructures and immunomodulatory cytokines provide pro-healing microenvironment for enhanced bone regeneration

Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is driving forward the progresses of various engineering fields, including tissue engineering. However, the pristine 3D-printed scaffolds usually lack robust functions in stimulating desired activity for varied regeneration applications. In this study, we combined the two-dimensional (2D) hetero-nanostructures and immuno-regulative interleukin-4 (IL-4) cytokines for the functionalization of 3D-printed scaffolds to achieve a pro-healing immuno-microenvironment for optimized bone injury repair. The 2D hetero-nanostructure consists of graphene oxide (GO) layers, for improved cell adhesion, and black phosphorous (BP) nanosheets, for the continuous release of phosphate ions to stimulate cell growth and osteogenesis. In addition, the 2D hetero-nanolayers facilitated the adsorption of large content of immuno-regulative IL-4 cytokines, which modulated the polarization of macrophages into M2 phenotype. After in vivo implantation in rat, the immuno-functioned 3D-scaffolds achieved in vivo osteo-immunomodulation by building a pro-healing immunological microenvironment for better angiogenesis and osteogenesis in the defect area and thus facilitated bone regeneration. These results demonstrated that the immuno-functionalization of 3D-scaffolds with 2D hetero-nanostructures with secondary loading of immuno-regulative cytokines is an encouraging strategy for improving bone regeneration.

Climate change can alter the status quo of the world as we know *** resources may also be influenced by these plausible *** common perception is that these changes may exacerbate the situation of water resources in arid and semi-arid regions,such as the Middle-East,which are experiencing mild to severe water stress due to limited water availability and growing water *** that spirit,this study aims to investigate the possible impacts of climate change on surface water in Maharlou Lake basin,***,this basin has already shown some symptoms of the water-related crisis,which highlights the importance of conducting climate change studies in this *** CansESM2 model was employed to predict the basin’s climatic response under various climate change *** hydrologic response of the basin was,then,simulated using *** results have demonstrated a 4%decrease in average annual rainfall,a 2%increase in average annual temperature,and,finally,a 24%decrease in average annual streamflow of the basin in the(2010-2099)time *** the results suggest that recent water-related challenges in the basin might have caused by climate change,further in-depth studies are required to reveal the exact reasons.

Detection Tool for Unbalanced Bids

Unbalanced bidding is a cash flow management strategy that is recognized as an illegal/disqualifying practice by public owners;and unethical practice by most private owners. This practice provides the awarded bidder with unjustified advantages at the expense of the owner. Unfortunately, limited tools and techniques are currently available to identify and detect unbalanced bids during the evaluation process. This paper presents an innovative detection tool to identify unbalanced bids in unit price contracts during the bid evaluation process. The proposed technique develops BMDI graphs to visualize total markup variation patterns during the project lifetime to detect unbalanced bids. The proposed method also uses Monte Carlo simulation to take in consideration the impact of cost uncertainties and risks. An illustrative example was presented to show the capabilities and features of the proposed method in determining the status of submitted bids during the evaluation process.

针对光伏发电系统输出电压低、功率不稳定、电压波动等电能质量问题,提出了一种二阶低通滤波器和高增益FIBC变换器的组合结构。为了解决滤波器和变换器级联可能造成的谐振现象,设计了一种可有效抑制谐振发生的稳定器,能够在不增加系统体积重量和功率损耗的前提下,抑制系统的振荡和波形畸变。首先建立了系统的数学模型,并利用Lyapunov第一法对系统的稳定性能进行分析,证明了该方法的可行性。仿真结果验证了所提控制策略和拓扑结构的正确性和有效性。

Single-mode output by controlling the spatiotemporal nonlinearities in mode-locked femtosecond multimode fiber lasers

Development of a Simulation-Based Intelligent Decision Support System for the Adaptive Real-Time Control of Flexible Manufacturing Systems

This paper describes a simulation-based intelligent decision support system (IDSS) for real time control of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) with machine and tool flexibility. The manufacturing processes involved in FMS are complicated since each operation may be done by several machining centers. The system design approach is built around the theory of dynamic supervisory control based on a rule-based expert system. The paper considers flexibility in operation assignment and scheduling of multi-purpose machining centers which have different tools with their own efficiency. The architecture of the proposed controller consists of a simulator module coordinated with an IDSS via a real time event handler for implementing inter-process synchronization. The controller’s performance is validated by benchmark test problem.

Effect of solution treatment on corrosion characteristics of biodegradable Mg-6Zn alloy

A binary Mg-6Zn biodegradable alloy was solution treated to evaluate the effects of resulting microstructure changes on the alloy＇s degradation rate and mechanisms in-vitro. The treatment was conducted at 350 °C for 6-48 h. Optical and scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to analyze the as-cast and treated samples. Immersion and electrochemical tests were performed in simulated body fluid at 37 °C to assess the samples corrosion resistance. To confirm the results of the corrosion tests, p H measurement was carried out. It is found that over 24 h solution treatment dissolves intermetallic phases in matrix and produces an almost single phase microstructure. Decreasing the intermetallic phases results in lower cathode/anode region ratios and lowers corrosion rates. The results of the electrochemical and mass loss tests reveal that extended solution treatment improves the corrosion resistance of the alloy. The results also show that solution at 350 °C for 24 h enhances the corrosion resistance of the as-cast alloy more than 60%. In addition, decreasing intermetallic phases in the microstructure accompanied a lower p H rise reduced corrosion rate. Solution treatment is suggested as a corrosion improving process for the application of Mg-Zn alloys as biodegradable implant materials.

The reports of lesions in kidney and intestine of apparently normal cultured silver carp (<i>Hypophtalmictys molitrix</i>)

Among fresh water fishes, silver carp because of fast growth rate and desired meat quality, is a dominant species in polyculture systems in Iran. This fish mainly feed on phytoplankton. In present survey kidney and intestine of 120 silver carp (Hypophtalmictys molitrix) from 4 regions in Khuzestan province-Iran have been studied. Tissue samples were provided from kidney and intestine and sectioned by routine method after paraffin embedding and finally stained with hematoxilin and eosin (H & E). The microscopic results were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Microscopical analysis showed that kidney tissue had lesions including: edema, necrosis, uroliths, hemorrhage and degeneration. In different regions, fishes showed different prevalence of lesions. Edema and urolith were the most prevalent lesions (30 and 25 percent respectively). In histometric analysis the diameter of layers of intestine in some of the fish farms were significantly higher than the other regions. This increase was because of increase in muscular layer. The intensity of all lesions was estimated as light according to distribution of lesions. The probable cause of these lesions may be the high stocking density, intoxication, water quality problem such as excessive carbon dioxide. The only lesion in intestine was the excessive proliferation of mucus cells that this lesion may be created due to the improper plankton diet.

The Role of Architectural Considerations in Seismic Performance of Buildings： A Case Study in Iran

Experience from recent earthquakes such as Gilan, Zanjan, Bam and Lorestan earthquakes in Iran indicated that the constructed buildings are vulnerable against earthquake. Vulnerability of these structures is due to various reasons such as designing without considering seismic regulations, problems of regulations （design goals）, implementation problems, changing of the building occupancy class, increasing the weight of building stories, adding new stories to the building and changing in architecture of building without considering structural system. So the main objective of this research is to examine the features of building configuration and their effects as for the damages to buildings in past earthquakes. For this purpose, initially four occurred earthquakes in Iran are selected as case study. Then three types of buildings （steel structure, concrete structure and masonry buildings） are analyzed with details. Results showed that the most of damages are occurred in the old steel structures and masonry buildings which their ages are more than 25 years. The study showed that most of the buildings in the study area are steel structure and masonry buildings while concrete structures are infrequent which most of them had no or slight damages. Therefore, the importance and need to enhance the performance of available buildings against earthquake forces by rehabilitating methods would be more important than before. Also results indicated that the decisions related to architectural plan which have significant effect on seismic performance of buildings, can be divided into three categories： configuration of building, restrictive formal architectural plan and dangerous structural components, as these categories are not obstacle of each other, it is possible that each category has an influential effect on others. So organizing the design decisions in this way is very important so as to manage their effects and interdependencies.
