Effect of natural and anthropogenic acidifi cation on aluminium distribution in forest soils of two regions in the Czech Republic

To elucidate the dynamics of aluminium(Al),an element potentially toxic and strongly aff ected by acidifi cation processes,in soils,we selected two regions that were similar in relief,soil types,and vegetation cover but diff ered markedly in their history of acid precipitation:the JizerskéMountains(anthropogenically acidifi ed)and the novohradskéMountains(naturally acidifi ed)in the Czech *** levels of Al forms(exchangeable and organically bound)associated with diff erent environmental impacts were measured and univalent,divalent and trivalent Al species were quantifi ed using HPLC/*** and organically bound Al concentrations were higher in the anthropogenically acidifi ed *** the concentrations of the leastdangerous species,the univalent,in organic soil horizons were similar for both *** concentrations of exchangeable Al forms were correlated with Ca concentrations and with pH in the organic *** known relationship of Al with soil pH was stronger in the mineral *** of exchangeable Al forms concentrations with sulphur concentrations or even more with the sulphur calcium molar ratio were found only in the JizerskéMountains,not in the novohradské.Generally,the obtained results support the hypothesis that mechanisms diff ered between natural and anthropogenic acidifi cation.

The boron-oxide coated iron nanocapsules have been prepared by arc-discharge in a mixture of diborane and nitrogen,and then the boron-nitride coated iron nanocapsules by a subsequent annealing under a nitrogen atmosphere at 1100 ℃.After the arc-discharge,the boron-oxide coated iron nanocapsules form,which show an amorphous surface layer of B2O3 （and/or B） and a core of γ-Fe,α-Fe,FeB *** being annealed,part of the α-Fe phase transforms to the γ-Fe phase,and the FeB phase decomposes while the Bn phase *** Bn shell structure formed in the Bn encapsulating iron nanocapsules is *** properties of the boron-oxide coated and the boron-nitride coated iron nanocapsules were compared and discussed in terms of the particles sizes,the phase components,and the surface structures.

The detailed groundwater flow and water chemistry to illustrate landscape structure of the infertile peatless mire by using piezometers and groundwater wells were measured. The instruments were installed in lines through a small spring-fed wetland underlying little peat from the hillslope to the valley bottom in southwestern Japan. Flow net and EC data clearly indicated that the wetland was situated in a high-EC groundwater upspring area. The low-productivity graminous vegetation was related with four hydrological factors such as: (1) high water level; (2) low-EC(ndwater; (3) weakly upward hydraulic gradient; and (4) overflowing of negatively pressured groundwater. In other words, the “old or deep groundwater” constructed the foundation of slope-wetland, and maintained the high groundwater level. In contrast, overflowing “youthful groundwater” is supplied from head of slope-wetland preferentially through the shallow substratum. The plant communities of the peatless mire in southwestern Japan are similar to those of raised bog in northern cool temperate Japan. There have been some reports verifying that the underlying mineral substrata of such wetlands were quartzile rocks such as granite, rhyolite, chart and well-leached sand. Results showed (1) low cation availability affects the water acidity; (2) upward seepage of high-EC groundwater composed the foundation of the investigated peatless mire; and (3) the poor mineral condition seems to play a similar role to northern ombrotrophic(rain-fed) condition.

Objective: The objective was to study umbilical care practices and risks in Parakou (north Benin). Patients and method: It was a cross-sectional and descriptive study carried out within a community from June 1 to August 31, 2013. It focused on all the infants born at the maternity of Parakou Health Center and their mothers. Results: Two hundred and ten newborns were included i.e. 101 boys and 109 girls. In 80.9% of cases, inappropriate substances had been applied to umbilical cord. Umbilical cord care quality was adjudged as poor, acceptable and good in 58.6%, 31.9% and 9.5% of cases respectively. A bacterial umbilical infection had been noted in 59.5% of newborns. Only 4.8% had sterile umbilical wound. The commonest bacteria were: Staphylococcus aureus (58.1%), Staphylococcus saprophiticus (53.3%), Escherichia coli (44.8%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (14.3%). The factors associated with umbilical infection were: low educational status of mother (p = 0.026), low-income occupation of mother (p = 0.021), customary practices to accelerate umbilical cord fall off (p = 0.007), short time to cord falling off lower than 6 days (p = 0.015). Conclusion: Umbilical cord care involves high risk for bacterial infection in our context. Strong actions must be taken within the community in order to reduce that risk.

The study examines the problem of noise pollution in the wake of its ill effect on the life of the people. However, female population is affected by religious noise a little more than male population. Major effects of noise pollution include interference with communication, sleeplessness, and reduced efficiency. The extreme effects e.g. deafness and mental breakdown neither is ruled out. Generally, a request to reduce or stop the noise is made out by the aggrieved party. However, complaints to the administration and police have also been accepted as a way of solving this menace. Public education appears tobe the best method as suggested by the respondents. However, government and nGOs can play a significant role in this process.

AIM： To estimate the characteristics of Color doppler findings and the results of hepatic radionuclide angiography （Hra） in secondary Hodgkin＇s hepatic lymphoma. METHOdS： The research included patients with a diagnosis of Hodgkin＇s lymphoma with metastatic focal lesions in the liver and controls. Morphologic characteristics of focal liver lesions and hemodynamic parameters were examined by pulsed and Color doppler in the portal, hepatic and splenic veins were examined. Hepatic perfusion index （HPI） estimated by Hra was calculated. was observed. Lesions were mostly hypoechoic and mixed, solitary or multiple. Some of the patients presented with dilated splenic veins and hepatofugal blood flow. A pulse wave was registered in the centre and at the margins of lymphoma. The average velocity of the pulse wave was higher at the margins （P 〉 0.05）. A continuous venous wave was found only at the margins of lymphoma. There was no linear correlation between lymphoma size and velocity of pulse and continuous wave （r = 390, P 〈 0.01）. HPI was significantly lower in patients with lymphomas than in controls （P 〈 0.05）, pointing out increased arterial perfusion in comparison to portal perfusion. COnCLUSIOn： Color doppler ultrasonography is a sensitive method for the detection of neovascularization in Hodgkin＇s hepatic lymphoma and estimation of its intensity. Hepatic radionuclide angiography can additionally help in the assesment of vascularisation of liver lesions.

Secondary tropical forests sequester atmospheric CO 2 at relatively faster rates in vegetation and in soil than old-growth primary *** understanding of biomass and carbon stocks in different plant functional types of these forests is ***,diversity,composition,soil features and carbon stocks in six distinct plant functional types,namely:Moist Mixed-deciduous Forest,Peninsular Sal Forest(PSF),Semi-Evergreen Forest(SEF),Planted Teak Forest,bamboo Brakes(BB),and degraded Thorny Shrubby Forest were quantified as secondary tropical deciduous forests of the Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary,Eastern Ghats of Odisha,***-one species≥10 cm Girth at breast height(GBH)were recorded,belonging to 38 families and 65 ***-ground biomass carbon and soil organic carbon ranged from 2.1–72.7 Mg C ha^(−1) and 20.6–67.1 Mg C ha^(−1),respectively,among all plant functional *** organic carbon and important value index were positively correlated with above-ground biomass *** carbon allocation was in SOC pool(51–91%),followed by the above-ground biomass pool(9–52%),indicating SOC is one of the major carbon sinks in secondary dry *** results highlight the importance of secondary tropical deciduous forests in biodiversity conservation and ecological importance in reducing greenhouse gases.

Purpose:This study explores the contributions and effectiveness of the Jockey Club“Giftedness into Flourishing Talents”Project(Project GIFT)in supporting learner diversity in gifted education,including meeting the educational and psychological needs of highly capable and gifted students in Hong ***/Approach/Methods:This study investigates the effectiveness of Project GIFT in supporting the development of diversity in learning in 20 project *** close cooperation with project schools,Project GIFT comprised six developmental areas:school development,curriculum development,teachers’professional development,parent empowerment,student development,and financial *** further assess the usefulness of the school-based support provided by Project GIFT,this study examines the implementation of school-based gifted education in two project schools based on the aforementioned *** program in gifted education that intervened at both Level 1(whole class)and Level 2(pullout)of the three-tiered policy stipulated by the Hong Kong Education *** of the few gifted education programs implemented in Asia,Project GIFT focused on six key components to specifically support high-ability and gifted students with diverse educational and affective *** study shows that Project GIFT significantly enhanced diversity in learning,its collaboration with two key schools resulting in the successful enhancement of school development,professional development,curriculum development,student development,parent empowerment,and financial ***/Value:The article fills the research gap by examining the effectiveness of a schoolbased gifted education program focused on enriching and differentiating curricula for different regular and pull-out *** doing so,this article attests to the success of the program in addressing the educational and psychosocial needs of gifted students at local schools in Hong Kong.
