Mixed-dimensional composite structures using zero-dimensional(0D)quantum dots(QDs)and two-dimensional(2D)transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)materials are expected to attract great interest in optoelectronics due to the potential to generate new optical ***,we report on the unique optical characteristics of a devices with mixed dimensional vertically stacked structures based on tungsten diselenide(WSe_(2))/CdSeS QDs monolayer/molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))(2D/0D/2D).Specifically,it exhibits an ambipolar photoresponse characteristic,with a negative photoresponse observed in the 400-600 nm wavelength range and a positive photoresponse appeared at 700 nm *** resulted in the high negative responsivity of up to 52.22 mA·W^(−1)under 400 nm,which is 163 times higher than that of the photodetector without CdSeS *** also demonstrated the negative photoresponse,which could be due to increased carrier collision probability and non-radiative *** modeling and simulation reveal that Auger recombination among the types of non-radiative recombination is the main cause of negative photocurrent ***,we discovered ambipolar photoresponse near a specific wavelength corresponding to the energy of quantum *** study revealed interesting phenomenon in the mixed low-dimensional stacked structure and paved the way to exploit it for the development of innovative photodetection materials as well as for optoelectronic applications.

Inverse relationship between bioavailable testosterone and subclinical coronary artery calcification in non-obese Korean men

Although low testosterone levels in men have been associated with high risk for cardiovascular disease, little is known about the association between male sex hormones and subclinical coronary disease in men with apparently low cardiometabolic risk. This study was performed to investigate the association between male sex hormones and subclinical coronary artery calcification measured as coronary calcium score in non-obese Korean men. We examined the relationship of total testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, bioavai lable testosterone and free testosterone with coronary calcium score in 291 non-obese Korean men （mean age： 52.8--- 9.3 years） not having a history of cardiovascular disease. Using multiple linear regression, we evaluated associations between log （sex hormone） levels and log （coronary calcium score） after adjusting for confounding variables in 105 men with some degree of coronary calcification defined as coronary calcium score ~〉 1. In multiple linear regression analysis, bioavailable testosterone was inversely associated with coronary calcium score （P=0.046） after adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking status, alcohol consumption, regular exercise, mean blood pressure, resting heart rate, C-reactive protein, fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein （HDL） cholesterol, hypertension medication and hyperlipidernia medication, whereas total testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin and free testosterone were not （P=0.674, P=O. 121 and P=O. 102, respectively）. Our findings indicate that bioavailable testosterone is inversely associated with the degree of subclinical coronary artery calcification in non-obese men.

Friction stir welding of 5052 aluminum alloy plates

Friction stir welding between 5052 aluminum alloy plates with a thickness of 2 mm was performed. The tool for welding was rotated at speeds ranging from 500 to 3000 r/min under a constant traverse speed of 100 mm/min. The results show that at all tool rotation speeds, defect-free welds are successfully obtained. Especially at 1000, 2000 and 3000 r/min, the welds exhibit very smooth surface morphologies. At 500, 1000, and 2000 r/min, onion ring structure is clearly observed in the friction-stir-welded zone (SZ). In addition, the onion ring structure region becomes wider as the tool rotation speed is increased. The gain size in the SZ is smaller than that in the base metal, and is decreased with a decrease of the tool rotation speed. In all tool rotation speeds, the SZ exhibits higher average hardness than the base metal. Especially at 500 r/min, the average hardness of the SZ reaches a level about 33% greater than that of the base metal. At 500, 1 000 and 2 000 r/min, the tensile strength of the friction stir welded (FSWed) plates is similar to that of the base metal (about 204 MPa). The elongation of the FSWed plates is lower than that of the base metal (about 22%). However, it is noticeable that the maximum elongation of about 21% is obtained at 1 000 r/min.

Associations of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol with metabolic syndrome and its components in Korean children and adolescents: the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys 2008–2014

Background In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between single-gender Korean references for non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in childhood. Methods A total of 5742 Korean children aged 10–18 years who participated in a national survey were included. The sub-jects were classified into three groups based on single-gender non-HDL-C levels as follows: <120 mg/dL (desirable), ≥120 and <150 mg/dL (borderline high), and ≥150 mg/dL (high). Results Males in the borderline high non-HDL-C group had odds ratios (ORs) of 2.86 (95% confidence interval, 2.30–3.56) for elevated triglycerides (TG), 1.73 (1.08–1.79) for reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and 1.73 (1.08–2.78) for MetS compared with males in the desirable non-HDL-C group after adjusting for covariates. Males in the high non-HDL-C group had ORs of 1.65 (1.14–2.41) for elevated blood pressure (BP), 6.21 (4.27–9.05) for elevated TG, and 3.29 (1.49–7.26) for MetS compared with males in the desirable non-HDL-C group. Females in the borderline high non-HDL-C group had ORs of 3.03 (2.43–3.76) for elevated TG, 1.63 (1.13–2.35) for reduced HDL-C, and 4.53 (2.47–8.31) for MetS compared with females in the desirable non-HDL-C group. Females in the high non-HDL-C group had ORs of 1.43 (1.00–2.04) for elevated BP, 6.36 (4.45–9.08) for elevated TG, and 7.64 (3.65–15.96) for MetS compared with females in the desirable non-HDL-C group. Conclusion Our results suggest that, in a Korean population, a non-HDL-C level of 120 mg/dL for males and 150 mg/dL for females is the threshold between borderline high and high risk for MetS.

Surface-modified liposomes for syndecan 2-targeted delivery of edelfosine

Here, we report that the modification of liposome surfaces with AG73 peptides enhances delivery of the lipophilic anticancer drug, edelfosine, to tumor cells overexpressing the cellsurface receptor, syndecan 2. To test the effect of liposomal surface density of AG73 peptides on cellular uptake, we synthesized AG73 peptide-conjugated polyethylene glycol(MW 2000)lipid and incorporated it into fluorescence dye-labeled anionic liposomes with different ligand densities(1, 2, or 5 mol% of total lipids). Cellular uptake of AG73-peptide–modified liposomes gradually increased in proportion to the surface ligand density. The percentages of cells positive for AG73-modified, fluorescent-dye–labeled liposomes were 19.8 ± 2.0%, 23.1 ± 5.0%,and 99.2 ± 1.0%, for ligand mole percentages of 1, 2, and 5, respectively. The cell-targeting ability of AG73-modified liposomes was not significantly altered by the serum content of culture media. In keeping with the observed enhanced cellular uptake, AG73-peptide–modified liposomes entrapping edelfosine exhibited greater cancer cell-killing effects compared with unmodified liposomes. Following intravenous administration into tumor-bearing mice,AG73-peptide–modified liposomes showed 2.1-fold greater accumulation in tumors than unmodified liposomes. These results support the feasibility of using syndecan 2–directed liposomes for delivery of edelfosine.

Distribution of Electromagnetic Force of Square Working Coil for High-Speed Magnetic Pulse Welding Using FEM

Magnetic pulse welding process, one of high speed welding processes, uses electromagnetic force from discharged current through a working coil which develops a repulsive force between the induced currents flowing parallel and in the opposite direction in the pipe to be welded. For achieving the successful weldment and using this process, the design of working coil is the most important factor, because working coil has to generate a high-intensity magnetic field on the surface of the workpiece during the process. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the distribution of electromagnetic force of square working coil for magnetic pulse welding. For this, FE-model has been developed to analyze the distribution of electromagnetic force;after that, distribution of electromagnetic force, results of numerical analysis and experimental results for verifying the developed FE-model were compared. A 3-dimensional electromagnetic FE-model has been developed using a general commercial computer program, ANSYS/EMAG code. The shape and material of square working coil were decided through literature surveys. For the experiment, an MPW equipment W-MPW manufactured by WELDMATE Co., Ltd. was employed;also the materials were the Al 1070, SM45C for Al and Steel square pipe and rod respectively. After the experiment, leakage test was used to verify the weldability. Also weld joints were observed on longitudinal cross-section by microscope. The electromagnetic force generated was the greatest one at the center adjacent to square working coil, decreasing as moving into the edge. As the result of Al/Steel welding experiment, weldment of square Al pipe was not completed at the corner of weldment. These results are similar to the output data from developed electromagnetic FE-model where electromagnetic force decreases as moving into the corners of square working coil.

mitochondrial-targeting moieties to anticancer drugs, antioxidants and sensor molecules. Among them, the most widely applied mitochondrial targeting moiety is triphenylphosphonium(TPP), which is a delocalized cationic lipid that readily accumulates and penetrates through the mitochondrial membrane due to the highly negative mitochondrial membrane potential. Other moieties, including short peptides,dequalinium, guanidine, rhodamine, and F16, are also known to be promising mitochondrial targeting agents. Direct conjugation of mitochondrial targeting moieties to anticancer drugs, antioxidants and sensors results in increased cytotoxicity, anti-oxidizing activity and sensing activity, respectively,compared with their non-targeting counterparts, especially in drug-resistant cells. Although many mitochondria-targeted anticancer drug conjugates have been investigated in vitro and in vivo, further clinical studies are still needed. On the other hand, several mitochondria-targeting antioxidants have been analyzed in clinical phases I, II and III trials, and one conjugate has been approved for treating eye disease in Russia. There are numerous ongoing studies of mitochondria-targeted sensors.
