Leukemia is one of the ten types of cancer that causes the biggest death in the world.Compared to other types of cancer,leukemia has a low life expectancy,so an early diagnosis of the cancer is necessary.A new strategy has been developed to identify various leukemia biomarkers by making blood cancer biosensors,especially by developing nanomaterial applications so that they can improve the performance of the biosensor.Although many biosensors have been developed,the detection of leukemia by using nanomaterials with electrochemical and optical methods is still less carried out compare to other types of cancer biosensors.Even the acoustic and calorimetric testing methods for the detection of leukemia by utilizing nanomaterials have not yet been carried out.Most of the reviewed works reported the use of gold nanoparticles and electrochemical characterization methods for leukemia detection with the object of study being conventional cancer cells.In order to be used clinically by the community,future research must be carried out with a lot of patient blood objects,develop non-invasive leukemia detection,and be able to detect all types of blood cancer specifically with one biosensor.This can lead to a fast and accurate diagnosis thus allowing for early treatment and easy periodic condition monitoring for various types of leukemia based on its biomarker and future design controlable via internet of things(IoT)so that why would be monitoring real times.

Change in coral reef benthic communities in the Lembeh Strait and Likupang, North Sulawesi, Indonesia

Anthropogenic impacts and natural disturbances have been intense recently in the global scale, affecting the composition of coral reef benthic communities from coral to algal dominated reefs. However, this condition does not always occur considering corals are able to recover when the stressors falter. This study aims to investigate the change in coral reef benthic communities and the relationship among benthic categories. The study was carried out in 2014 and 2016 at five sites, three sites in the Lembeh Strait and two sites in Likupang, North Sulawesi Province. Underwater Photo Transect(UPT) was used at depth of around 4–6 m in slope areas. The result indicated that the benthic communities were slightly changing: the percent covers of hard corals, sponges, soft corals, macroalgae and substrate categories were not significantly different between the years but category of others, particularly seasonally growing hydroid, increased significantly, occupying the available substrates and overtopping other benthos surrounding. The study also found that there was a significant relationship between the change in benthic gradient and the number of hard coral colonies: when the composition becomes less complex, the number of colony declines. In contrast, the hard coral diversity remained unchanged, suggesting the coral reefs apparently have an ecological resilience(sustainable species diversity) against the change although ecological complexity declines. In addition, the hard coral cover was significantly correlated with soft coral and sponge covers, which did not change significantly among the years. In general, the coral reefs in North Sulawesi might experience a temporary blip due to the increasing percent cover of others, and be predicted to recover as there was no indication of soft corals and sponges to increase significantly. However, it is necessary to investigate the dynamic of benthic communities in different depth gradients to gain a comprehensive understanding as the communities respond differently to the light

Sequential alkaline-organic acid leaching process to enhance the recovery of rare earth elements from Indonesian coal fly ash

In this decade,coal fly ash(CFA) is considered a potential secondary source of rare earth elements(REEs).However,most REEs in coal fly ash are encapsulated in aluminosilicate glass,making it challenging to recover them through acid leaching.In this study,a sequential alkaline-organic acid leaching was developed for the recovery of REEs from CFA.The effect of alkaline leaching using NaOH solution on the destructive ability of aluminosilicate glass,as well as the mineralogy and morphology changes of the resulting coal fly ash,was first studied.Furthermore,the effectiveness of alkaline leaching on the recovery ability of REEs through organic acid leaching was evaluated.The results show that the maximum leaching efficiency for Si and Al,which was obtained at the optimum alkaline leaching conditions,namely NaOH concentration of 10 mol/L,reaction temperature of 65℃,liquid/solid(L/S) ratio of 10 mL/g,and reaction time of 90 min,is 28% and 32%,respectively.The digestion reaction with NaOH lixiviants also causes coal fly ash to become more porous,making it advantageous in the organic acid-leaching process at the REEs recovery stage.The utilization of the desilicated residue produced from the digestion process in acid leaching effectively increases the overall REEs recovery from 32.2% to 77.6%.

Spirooxindole is a compound with a unique framework and broad bioactivities in medicine.In this study,we have reviewed various approaches or methods in synthesizing spirooxindole derivatives focused on green synthesis.Synthesis of spirooxindoles is mainly carried out through multicomponent reactions combined with various green approaches such as the use of heterogeneous catalysts(nano-sized,magnetic,metal-complex,and metal-organic framework catalysts),deep eutectic solvent,solvent-free reactions,catalyst-free reactions,as well as the use of ultrasonic and microwaves irradiation.The green method is carried out in addition to obtaining high yields,it also offers reductions in the use of hazardous chemicals,energy use,purification processes,and waste generation.As a result,green synthesis methods in the synthesis of spirooxindole derivatives are more environmentally friendly.

Adding chitosan nanoparticles of green tea extract in diluent and thawing temperatures ameliorate the post-thawed quality of Boer buck semen

Objective:To improve the quality of post-thawing Boer buck semen for artificial insemination by adding green tea extract chitosan nanoparticles to skimmed egg yolk diluent,and the proper thawing temperature.Methods:The ejaculate of Boer buck was added to skimmed egg yolk diluent without(the control group)and with adding 1μg of chitosan nanoparticles of green tea extract per mL of diluent(the treatment group).Then,the diluted semen was filled in French mini straws containing 60×106 live sperm per straw,frozen in a standard protocol,and stored as frozen semen at−196℃for a week.Six replicates from each group were diluted for 30 s at 37℃or 39℃sterile water to evaluate the semen quality.Results:Post-thawing(at 37℃or 39℃)of live sperm,progressive motility,and plasma membrane integrity were lower compared to those of the pre-freezing stage(P0.05).The live sperm,progressive motility,and plasma membrane of the treatment group in the pre-freezing stage,and post-thawed at 39℃were higher compared to those of the control group(P0.05).Conclusions:Higher quality post-thawing Boer buck semen is achieved by adding 1μg/mL of chitosan nanoparticles of green tea extract to the skimmed egg yolk diluent and thawing at 39℃.

Liberica coffee as an alternative cropping system for sustainable farming on Indonesian Peatlands

Indonesian peatlands are a fragile ecosystem,and to protect it,growing Liberica coffee is a promising way for both the environment and the economy.This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the liberica coffee on peatland with different water tables and develop an improved cultivation system in this ecosystem.The study area was in Tanjung Jabung Barat District,Jambi Province,Indonesia.The plant age is greater than 15 years and the average plant density was about 1000 trees/hm2.The study was conducted in two stages.The 1st stage was a survey to identify and characterize smallholder liberica coffee farming at three peatland zones,namely 0-100 m,200-300 m,and>400 m from the principal drainage canal,and the 2nd stage was a field experiment to test the effectiveness of amendments in improving liberica coffee growth and improving degraded peatland.The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications,including manure(M),at the rate of 10 t/hm^(2);lime(L),3 t/hm^(2);peat surface elevation(P),and a farmer’s practice(Control)without manure and/or lime as a control.This research revealed that liberica coffee can not tolerate high water table as it may stimulate disease incidence and cause low-quality yield.However,recycling of organic C of about 17.14 t/(hm^(2)·a)through cherry residue application and litter compensated part of the loss of organic C through CO_(2)emissions,coffee bean removal,and maintaining peat fertility for sustainable farming.The low yield of(0.70±0.12)t/(hm^(2)∙a)coffee bean could be increased to(0.87±0.24)and(0.94±0.14)t/(hm^(2)∙a)by adding 3 t/(hm^(2)∙3a)of lime or 10 t/(hm^(2)∙a)of manure,respectively.This research revealed that water table management and amendments are two main factors in liberica coffee farming on peatlands.It is of great significance to study the cultivation technology of coffee in peatland.

Interleukin-15 is a significant predictor of sarcopenia in human immunodeficiency virus infected patients on antiretroviral therapy:A cross-sectional study

Objective:To identify the relationship between interleukin(IL)-15 levels and sarcopenia in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-infected patients who have received antiretroviral therapy.Methods:This study was a cross-sectional design with 70 participants conducted from January to March 2021.All the participants were assessed for sarcopenia and the IL-15 levels.Sarcopenia was established based on the the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia(AWGS)2019 criteria.Plasma IL-15 was determined.This analysis was carried out by means of 2×2 tabulation and the statistical test used is Chi-square.Results:Seventy patients received antiretroviral therapy>6 months and showed a good clinical response.Among them,36(51.4%)took zidovudine-based antiretroviral therapy with a median duration of illness of 5 years.The proportion of sarcopenia in patients with HIV infection was 32.9%.The median CD4 cell count was 395.5 cells/L(range:203-937 cells/L).Logistic regression analysis revealed that age>50 years(aOR 8.3,95%CI 1.6-44.5),underweight(aOR 7.7,95%CI 1.5-40.5),IL-15≥150.5 ng/L(aOR 4.9,95%CI 1.3-19.0)and female(aOR 4.8,95%CI 1.2-18.3 were significant and independent adverse predictors of sarcopenia in subjects with HIV infection.Conclusions:There is an association between high levels of IL-15 and sarcopenia in HIV-infected patients on antiretroviral therapy for more than 6 months with good clinical response.

CARVING-DETC: A network scaling and NMS ensemble for Balinese carving motif detection method

Balinese carvings are cultural objects that adorn sacred buildings. The carvings consist of several motifs,each representing the values adopted by the Balinese people. Detection of Balinese carving motifs ischallenging due to the unavailability of a Balinese carving dataset for detection tasks, high variance,and tiny-size carving motifs. This research aims to improve carving motif detection performance onchallenging Balinese carving motifs detection task through a modification of YOLOv5 to support adigital carving conservation system. We proposed CARVING-DETC, a deep learning-based Balinesecarving detection method consisting of three steps. First, the data generation step performs dataaugmentation and annotation on Balinese carving images. Second, we proposed a network scalingstrategy on the YOLOv5 model and performed non-maximum suppression (NMS) on the modelensemble to generate the most optimal predictions. The ensemble model utilizes NMS to producehigher performance by optimizing the detection results based on the highest confidence score andsuppressing other overlap predictions with a lower confidence score. Third, performance evaluation onscaled-YOLOv5 versions and NMS ensemble models. The research findings are beneficial in conservingthe cultural heritage and as a reference for other researchers. In addition, this study proposed a novelBalinese carving dataset through data collection, augmentation, and annotation. To our knowledge,it is the first Balinese carving dataset for the object detection task. Based on experimental results,CARVING-DETC achieved a detection performance of 98%, which outperforms the baseline model.

Quantifying social costs of coal-fired power plant generation

Coal has been dominating the electricity supply in Indonesia,especially in long-term power generation from fossil energy.This dominance is due to lower production costs in coal-fired power plant generation.However,this low price is only based on monetary costs and ignores the social costs.Therefore,this study aims to quantify the social costs of coal-fired generation.Using QUERI-AirPacts modeling,the present study quantifies the social costs resulting from the Tenayan Raya coal-fired generation in Riau,Indonesia.It includes the levelized cost of electricity and health costs into the generation costs.After that,this study calculates the net present value,internal rate return,and project payback period.The study found that as much as$50.22/MWh was the levelized cost of electricity.While$15.978/MWh or$0.015978/kWh was the social cost that was not included in the generating cost.At the electricity production level of 1,380,171.69 MWh per year,there is an expected extra cost of$22,052,383.30 uncounted when externalities are included.For instance,the net present value(NPV)is lower and even negative when external costs are included(-$24,062,274.19)compared to$176,108,091.52 when externalities are not considered.The internal rate of return(IRR)is much higher when the social costs are not considered.The payback period is also shorter when the social costs are excluded than when the externalities are included.This global number indicates that the inclusion of external costs would impact NPV,IRR,and the payback period.This result implies that the government should internalize the external cost to stimulate the electricity producers to conduct cost-benefit analyses.The cost-benefit analysis mechanism would lead the producers to be more efficient.

Diesel generator exhaust heat recovery fully-coupled with intake air heating for off-grid mining operations:An experimental,numerical,and analytical evaluation

The customarily discarded exhaust from the fossil fuel-based power plants of the off-grid mines holds the thermal potential to fulfill the heating requirement of the underground operation.This present research fills in an important research gap by investigating the coupling effect between a diesel exhaust heat recovery and an intake air heating system employed in a remote mine.An integrative approach comprising analytical,numerical,and experimental assessment has been adapted.The novel analytical model developed here establishes the reliability of the proposed mine heating system by providing comparative analysis between a coupled and a decoupled system.The effect of working fluid variation has been examined by the numerical analysis and the possible improvement has been identified.Experimental investigations present a demonstration of the successful lab-scale implementation of the concept and validate the numerical and analytical models developed.Successful deployment of the fully coupled mine heating system proposed here will assist the mining industry on its journey towards energy-efficient,and sustainable mining practices through nearly 70%reduction in fossil fuel consumption for heating intentions.
