Class switch recombination(CSr)occurs at the IgH locus and replaces the immunoglobulin(Ig)isotype expressed fr.m.Igm to IgG,IgE or IgA,endowing the B cell receptor with novel effector *** is triggered by activation-induced cytidine deaminase(AID),1 an enzyme that deaminates cytosines to uracils in single-stranded DNA exposed by *** distinct antibody isotypes are encoded in the IgH locus in individual transcription units composed of a cytokine-inducible pr.m.ter,an intronic exon,and a switch region(Sx),followed by the exons encoding the constant region(Cx)(Fig.S1a).During CSr,the choice of recombination to a particular isotype is determined by the stimulation-dependent activation of specific pr.m.ters,triggering the generation of noncoding germline transcripts(GLTs).2 Thus far,the transcriptional regulation of the IgH locus is known to be controlled by the Eμenhancer,located downstream of the variable region and upstream of the donor switch region(Sμ),and the 3′regulatory region(3′rr)super-enhancer located downstream of Cα.

The incidence of type 1 diabetes(T1D) among youth is steadily increasing across the world. Up to a third of pediatric patients with T1 D present with diabetic ketoacidosis, a diagnosis that continues to be the leading cause of death in this population. Cerebral edema is the most common rare complication of diabetic ketoacidosis in children. Accordingly, treatment and outcome measures of cerebral edema are vastly researched and the pathophysiology is recently the subject of much debate. Nevertheless, cerebral edema is not the onlysequela of diabetic ketoacidosis that warrants close monitoring. The medical literature details various other complications in children with diabetic ketoacidosis, including hypercoagulability leading to stroke and deep vein thr.m.osis, rhabdomyolysis, pulmonary and gastrointestinal complications, and long-term memory dysfunction. We review the pathophysiology, reported cases, management, and outcomes of each of these rare complications in children. As the incidence of T1 D continues to rise, practitioners will care for an increasing number of pediatric patients with diabetic ketoacidosis and should be aware of the various systems that may be affected in both the acute and chronic setting.

AIm To explore the association between metacognitive beliefs, r.m.nation and shyness in a non-clinical sample of adults. mETHODS One hundred and three healthy subjects fr.m.the general population were enrolled in the study. Shyness was evaluated using the revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale, r.m.nation was assessed using the r.m.native response Scale, metacognition was evaluated using the metaCognitions Questionnaire 30, and anxiety levels were measured using the State Trait Anxiety Inventory form Y. Correlation analyses, mediation models and 95% bias-corrected and accelerated(BCaCI) bootstrapped analyses were performed. mediation analyses were adjusted for sex and anxiety. rESULTS Shyness, r.m.nation and metacognition were significantly correlated(P relationship between metacognition and shyness was fully mediated by r.m.nation(Indirect effect: 0.20; 95% BCaCI: 0.08-0.33).CONCLUSION These findings suggest an association between metacognition and shyness. r.m.nation mediated the relationship between metacognition and shyness, suggesting that r.m.nation could be a cognitive strategy for shy people. Future research should explore the relationship between these constructs in more depth.

Austenite formation kinetics in two high-strength exper.m.ntal microalloyed steels with different initial microstructures comprising bainite-martensite and ferrite-martensite/austenite microconstituents was studied during continuous heating by dilatometric analysis. Austenite formation occurred in two steps：（1） carbide dissolution and precipitation and （2） transformation of residual ferrite to austenite. Dilatometric analysis was used to determine the critical temperatures of austenite formation and continuous heating transformation diagr.m. for heating rates ranging fr.m.0.03°C.s^-1 to 0.67°C.s^-1. The austenite volume fraction was fitted using the Johnson-mehl-Avr.m.-Kolmogorov equation to determine the kinetic par.m.ters k and n as functions of the heating rate. Both n and k par.m.ters increased with increasing heat- ing rate, which suggests an increase in the nucleation and growth rates of austenite. The activation energy of austenite formation was determined by the Kissinger.m.thod. Two activation energies were associated with each of the two austenite formation steps. In the first step, the austenite growth rate was controlled by carbon diffusion fr.m.carbide dissolution and precipitation; in the second step, it was controlled by the dissolution of residual ferrite to austenite.

Understanding layer interplay is the key to utilizing layered heterostructures formed by the stacking of different two-dimensional materials for device applications. Boron nitride has been demonstrated to be an ideal substrate on which to build graphene devices with improved mobilities. Here we present studies on the morphology and optical response of annealed few-layer hexagonal boron nitride flakes deposited on a silicon substrate that reveal the formation of linear wrinkles along well-defined crystallographic directions. The wrinkles formed a network of pr.m.rily threefold and occasionally fourfold origami-type junctions throughout the sample, and all threefold junctions and wrinkles formed along the armchair crystallographic direction. Furthermore, molecular dynamics simulations yielded, through spontaneous symmetry breaking, wrinkle junction morphologies that are consistent with both the exper.m.ntal results and the proposed origami-folding model. Our findings indicate that this morphology may be a general feature of several two-dimensional materials under proper stress-strain conditions, resulting in direct consequences in device strain engineering.

AIm： TO determine the prevalence and clinical relevance of isolated antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen as the only marker of infection （“anti-HBc alone”） among human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） type-1 infected patients. Occult hepatitis B infection frequency was also evaluated. mETHODS： Three hundred and forty eight histories fr.m.2388 HIV-positive patients were randomly reviewed. Patients with serological markers of hepatitis B virus （HBV） infection were classified into three groups： past hepatitis, ＂anti-HBc alone＂ and chronic hepatitis. Determination of DNA fr.m.HBV, and rNA and genotype fr.m.hepatitis C virus （HCV） were performed on ＂anti-HBc alone＂ patients. rESULTS： One hundred and eighty seven （53.7%） HIV-positive patients had markers of HBV infection： 118 past infection （63.1%）, 14 chronic hepatitis （7.5%） and 55 ＂anti-HBc alone＂（29.4%）. Younger age [2.3-fold higher per every 10 years younger; 95% confidence intervals （Cl） 1.33-4.00] and antibodies to HCV infection [odds ratio （Or） 2.87; 95% CI 1.10-7.48] were factors independently associated with the ＂anti-HBc alone＂ pattern. No differences in liver disease frequency were detected between both groups. Ser.m.levels of anti-HBs were not associated with HCV infection （nor viral replication or HCV genotype）, or with HIV replication or CD4 level. No ＂anti-HBc alone＂ patient tested positive for HBV DNA. CONCLUSION：＂Anti-HBc alone＂ prevalence in HIm- positive patients was similar to previously reported data and was associated with a younger age and with antibodies to HCV infection. In clinical practice, HBV DNA determination should be performed only in those patients with clinical or analytical signs of liver injury,

What is the value of eucalyptus monocultures for the biodiversity of the Atlantic forest? A multitaxa study in southern Bahia, Brazil

Eucalyptus plantations are increasing in Brazil, frequently replacing pastures, but there is still scarce information about its capacity to maintain the fauna of neighbor forest r.m.ants. In this study, we compared descriptors of the communities of leaf litter organisms （lizards, anurans, myriapods, arachnids, orthopterans, coleopterans, and ants） between a large r.m.ant of pr.m.ry Atlantic Forest and an adjacent eucalyptus monoculture （phase 1）. Then, we compared the same descriptors for leaf litter lizards and anurans, Euglossini bees, and frugivorous butterflies among the largest r.m.ant, small r.m.ants at intermediate regeneration stage, and eucalyptus monocultures that were not adjacent to the largest r.m.ant （phase 2）. monocultures were sampled immediately before logging. In phase 1, we detected significant differences in structure between the forest and the monoculture in six out of seven communities sampled. Ca. 81% of the species of the landscape were recorded in the forest, but only 54% of these were found also in the monoculture. In phase 2, the structure of two out of four forest communities was significantly different fr.m.the structure of small r.m.ants and monocultures. On average, 76% of the species found in the whole landscape were sampled in the forest. Out of this subset, on average 74% of the species were also sampled in small r.m.ants and 68% in monocultures. Findings of the present study point out a moderate capacity of eucalyptus monocultures to harbor species of the forest fauna even when fully grown but highlights the opportunity that they might offer for increasing connectivity in anthropogenic forest landscapes depending on their.m.nagement.
