AIM To determine a potential relationship between serum undercarboxylated(uc Oc) concentration and cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes(T2D) patients and healthy subjects(HS).METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on 140 subjects classified into two groups, 70 with T2D and 70 HS. Medical history and physical examination with anthropometric measurements were obtained from all subjects. Body fat percentage was determined by bioelectrical impendency analysis. Serum uc Oc concentration was determined by enzyme immunoassay,while serum levels of insulin and hsc RP were obtained using high sensitivity enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Insulin resistance was determined using the homeostasis model assessment-IR. Lipid profile [triglycerides,total cholesterol(Tc), high-density lipoproteins(HDL-c),low density lipoproteins(LDL-c), very low-density lipoproteins] was determined by spectrophotometry and standard formulas when applicable. RESULTS The T2D patient group showed significantly higher values of waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood pressure(DBP),current smoking, and alcohol use when compared to the HS group(P cantly lower serum ucO c concentration in T2D than in HS(1.5 ± 1.4vs 2.3 ± 1.8, P cO c concentration was inversely correlated with body mass index(BMI)(r =-0.236, P cose(r =-0.283, P c(r =-0.255,P correlated with LDL-c/HDL-c ratio(r = 0.306, P c/HDL-c ratio(r =0.284, P c Oc concentration was inversely correlated with BMI(r =-0.310, P centage(r =-0.311,P correlated with DBP(r = 0.450,P correlation between serum levels of uc Oc and SBP(r = 0.277, P cONcLUSION Serum uc Oc is a potential marker for cardiovascular risk in Mex

Foliar persistence and residual activity of methoxyfenozide against beet armyworm （Lepidoptera： Noctuidae）

A greenhouse study was conducted to investigate the persistence of methoxyfenozide in pepper （capsicum annuum L.） foliage. An aqueous suspension of methoxyfenozide was sprayed on pepper plants at concentrations of 72 and 144 mg of active ingredient （a.i.）/L. Foliage was collected at different intervals of time （0, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 days） after the treatment, and the methoxyfenozide residue was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. The foliage was also used in bioas- says to determine the residual toxicity on and the consumption rate of the third-instar larvae of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua （Htibner）（Lepidoptera： Noctuidae）. The methoxyfenozide concentrations observed after 50 days had decreased to 19 and 69μg/g per sample, corresponding to a loss of 61% and 28% from the application concentrations of 72 and 144 mg a.i./L, respectively. When fitting a first-order kinetics degradation model, the half-life （DT50） of this compound was 76 days. Both application concentrations of methoxyfenozide caused a high mortality rate （〉97%） when the larvae were fed the pepper foliage collected at all of the time intervals. Lastly, at all of the time points, the consumption rate by the larvae was reduced to between 57% and 92% for both concentrations that were bioassayed. Our results indicate that, under the present greenhouse conditions, the degradation of methoxyfenozide was slower than that reported by other authors and that its residues were highly toxic to S. exigua larvae. The implications of these results for the management programs of this pest are discussed.

Behaviour of Structural carbon Steel at High Temperatures

The research develops an experimental study on two carbon steels used for construction of structures on civil works, S355NL and S460NL, to high temperatures with values ranging between 500 °c and 950 °c. In order to obtain experimental evidence of behavior of steels at elevated temperatures, the chemical and structural characterizations and tested steels were made, deducing the found microstructures and average grain sizes measured. Tensile tests at elevated temperatures were made and steels mechanical properties were deducted at different temperatures. Also hardness steels tests were made. creep and plastic deformation phenomena were observed from micrography and fractography studies.

Ni/carbon Hybrid Prepared by Hydrothermal carbonization and Thermal Treatment as Support for PtRu Nanoparticles for Direct Methanol Fuel cell

Ni/carbon was prepared in two steps： initially cellulose as carbon source and Nicl2·6H2O as catalyst of the carbonization process were submitted to hydrothermal treatment at 200 ℃ and further to thermal treatment at 900 ℃ under argon atmosphere. The obtained material contains Ni nanoparticles with face-centered cubic （fcc） structure dispersed on amorphous carbon with graphitic domains. PtRu/c electrocatalysts （carbon- supported PtRu nanoparticles） were prepared by an alcohol-reduction process using Ni/carbon as support. The materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and tested as anodes in single direct methanol fuel cell （DMFc）. The performances of PtRu/c electrocatalysts using Ni/carbon as support were superior to those obtained for PtRu/c using commercial carbon black Vulcan Xc72 as support.

In this work, with the purpose to explore the coordination chemistry of calcium complexes which could work as a partial model of manganese-calcium cluster, a spectrophotometric study to evaluate the stability of the complexes: calcium(Ⅱ)-1,2-ethylendiamine, calcium(Ⅱ)-1,3-propanediamine and calcium(Ⅱ)-1,4-butanediamine in acetonitrile, were carried on. By processing the spectrophotometric data with the HypSpec program allows the determination of the formation constants. The logarithmic values of the formation constants obtained for calcium(Ⅱ)-1,2-ethylendiamine, calcium(Ⅱ)-1,3-propanediamine and calcium(Ⅱ)-1,4-butanediamine were log β_(110) = 4.69, log β_(110)= 5.25 and log β_(110) = 4.072, respectively.

Factors Influencing Serum Amyloid Type A (Saa) concentrations in Horses

The acute phase response (APR) is the reaction that occurs in animals in response to disturbances in hemostasis following tissue damage. In horses, the APR is manifested in a variety of pathological processes of various origins, such as infections caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, arthritis, burns, chemicals, trauma surgery and stress. Acute phase proteins (APPs) are considered those proteins that modify its plasma concentration at least 25% in inflammatory and infectious processes. In adult horses, various respiratory inflammatory processes, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive organs and musculoskeletal system are accompanied by increased levels of a specific APP, so-called serum amyloid type A (SAA). SAA is the most important major APP in the horse. This paper provides a review of physiological factors affecting SAA levels and their role in horses in defense of natural mechanisms, the pathways involved and their material components.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection training with pig models in a Western country

AIM:To test a strategy for endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) training in animal models designed to overcome the initial learning ***:ESD was attempted in ex vivo and in vivo pig *** ESD procedures were attempted in the esophagus(n=9) or the stomach(n=21).The ex vivo model was used until initial competence was *** the in vivo model,several ESD procedures were performed in up to 3 *** following variables were analyzed:specimen size,complete and en bloc resection rate,time for circumferential incision,time for submucosal dissection,total ESD duration,and ***:complete resection was achieved in 28 cases(en bloc 27);2 could not be completed(one perforation,one technical diff iculty).The mean ± SD time for circumferential incision was 36.2±16.8 min(range:8-87 min),and the mean±SD time for submucosal dissection was 45.1±35.7 min(range:9-196 min).The mean±SD size of the resected specimens was 45.2±17.8 *** mean±SD total resection time was signif icantly increased for the gastric cases performed in the f irst half of the study(n=13) than in the second half(n=8)(98.9±62.4 min vs 61.7±17.6 min,P=0.04),although the specimen size did not ***:Training in animal models could help endoscopists overcome the learning curve before starting ESD in humans.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors located in the alimentary tract. Its usual manifestation is gastrointestinal bleeding. However, small asymptomatic lesions are frequently detected as incidental finding. characteristically, most GISTs(> 95%) are positive for the KIT protein(cD117) by IHc staining and approximately 80%-90% of GISTs carry a mutation in the c-KIT or PDGFRA genes. Mutational analysis should be performed when planning adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapy, due to its possible resistance to conventional treatment. The arise of tyrosine kinase inhibitor has supposed a revolution in GISTs treatment being useful as adjuvant, neoadjuvant or recurrence disease treatment. That is why a multidisciplinary approach to this disease is required. The correct characterization of the tumor at diagnosis(the diagnosis of recurrences and the evaluation of the response to treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors) is fundamental for facing these tumors and requires specialized Endoscopist, Radiologists and Nuclear Medicine Physician. Surgery is the only potentially curative treatment for suspected resectable GIST. In the case of high risk GISTs, surgery plus adjuvantImatinib-Mesylate for 3 years is the standard treatment. Neoadjuvant imatinib-mesylate should be considered to shrink the tumor in case of locally advanced primary or recurrence disease, unresectable or potentially resectable metastasic tumors, and potentially resectable disease in complex anatomic locations to decrease the related morbidity. In the case of Metastatic GIST under Neoadjuvant treatment, when there are complete response, stable disease or limited disease progression, complete cytoreductive surgery could be a therapeutic option if feasible.
