Natural Walls of Anatolia: formation and development of Diş Kayalıkları as a structural landform (Sivas, Türkiye)

The Diş Kayalıkları is one of the largest and most striking examples of crests in the world and is located between Eskidere and Boğazören villages of the İmranlı district of the Sivas province in Turkey. The crests, which resemble castle walls when viewed from afar, have a real wall pattern due to the right-angled crack system of the bedrock when viewed closely. This study aims at investigating the geomorphological features of the Diş Kayalıkları and determining how the geological and geomorphological evolution of the Diş Kayalıkları took place and how the current formation mechanism continues. In the region, the mid-latitude continental climate prevails with cold humid winters and warm dry summers. The bedrock consists of Miocene bedded deposits of different resistance, folded by young tectonic movements. Diş Kayalıkları was formed by selective erosion of less resistant terrain around a pack of resistant rock on the steeper southern slope of an asymmetrical anticline. It has a length of 4750 m in the approximately northwest-southeast direction, a maximum height of 30 m, and a width varying between 5 and 8 m. In the present morphological appearance of the Diş Kayalıkları, it can be stated that the structure formed after the tectonic formation process was eroded under the control of the local climate and crest formation was realized. In the following process, the crest experienced a polycyclic process where different landforms were formed. There are smaller landforms such as karren, cave and rock window on Diş Kayalıkları, and macrofossil beds in some places. This highly attractive geomorphosite, unknown to wider public, should be investigated from various scientific aspects and should be brought to regional tourism by making the necessary infrastructure and promotion studies.

Study on the Impact of Elements in Water on the Diversity of Water Mites(Acari,Hydrachnidia)Species

In this study the distribution and relationships of element levels in water and water mite species (Acari, Hydrachnidia) selected as model organisms have been examined in two different lakes. Water samples from Eber and Karamik Lakes were analyzed with ICP (ICP-OES Instrument Spectro Genesis Fee, Germany) equipment to determine the element levels in the water. That impact level of these elements on the distribution of species was discussed. Change in the lake water composition was not a significantly determining factor in the number of species and diversities of water mites. However, eutrophication was observed to be a determining factor on the distribution of species.

Shape Analysis of Agricultural Parcels for Land Consolidation Priorities in Tekirdag Province,Turkey

Shape irregularity,a sub-factor of parcel fragmentation is a problem that hinders sustainable agriculture and is solved using land consolidation *** of the parcel shape degree contributes significantly to spatial prioritization where there is also a high probability of achieving positive effects of consolidation *** study aims to determine the shape degree of the agricultural parcels both at singular and rural county scales in Tekirdag Province,Turkey in 2020 by combining the parcel shape index(PSI) with the minimum bounding geometry index(MBG) to improve parcel ***-spot zones of the highly irregular and near optimum parcels were also determined using Getis-Ord G_(i)^(*) *** parcel degrees were classified into four categories,namely highly irregular,irregular,regular and near *** obtained unweighted scores of the parameters exhibit deviations from the expected *** weighting by pairwise comparison,the values approached ideal *** 346 740 parcels,53% were highly irregular and irregular and 47% were regular and near optimum shapes after weighting whereas these were 70% and 30%,respectively before *** average parcel degree of 63 rural counties was regular while the average parcel degree of the remaining 264 rural counties was *** combined use of PSI and MBG index improved the correctness of the parcel shape *** could be suggested to use as a tool in land consolidation prioritization.

AIM:To investigate the effect of lacidipine,thiamine pyrophosphate(TPP)and the combination of lacidipine and TPP against oxidative and inflammatory eye damage induced by bilateral common carotid artery ligation in ***:Male albino Wistar rats were categorized as those who underwent sham surgery(SG),right and left common carotid cross-clamping and unclamping procedure(CCU),lacidipine+CCU(LCCU),TPP+CCU(TCCU),and combination of lacidipine and TPP(LTC)+CCU(LTCCU).One hour before anesthesia,the LCCU(n=6)received lacidipine(4 mg/kg,orally)and the TCCU(n=6)received TPP(20 mg/kg,intraperitoneally).The SG(n=6)and CCU(n=6)received the same volume of distilled water from the same *** anesthesia(60 mg/kg ketamine,intraperitoneally),the necks of the rats were opened in the *** was created for 10min by placing clips on the right and left common carotid *** in the SG only underwent subcutaneous *** 10min,the clips were removed and reperfusion was achieved for six ***,the animals were euthanized(120 mg/kg ketamine,intraperitoneally)and the levels of oxidant,antioxidant and proinflammatory cytokines in the eye tissues were *** retinal tissue of the eye was also examined ***:Lacidipine,TPP,and LTC significantly prevent the increase in malondialdehyde,tumor necrosis factoralpha,interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and IL-6 levels,decrease in total glutathione levels,superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and histopathological retinal damage in eye tissue induced by bilateral common carotid artery ligation in *** impact of these drugs on protection is determined to be LTC>lacidipine>***:As a result of the study,it is concluded that LTC may be more effective than lacidipine and TPP alone in treating ocular ischemic syndrome.

Taxonomical and Biogeochemical Investigation of Elements in Holocene Mollusk Shells in the South and Southwestern Marmara Basin,Turkey

Concentrations of some heavy metals and trace elements such as Cr, Ga, Ni, Zn, Mo, Cu, Pb, Yb, Y, Nb, Ti, Sr, Ba, Mn, Sc, Co, V, Zr, Fe, Al, W, Se, Bi, Sb, As, Cd in recent mollusk shells and factors affecting their distribution and deposits collected from various depths in the southern and southwestern parts of the Marmara Sea are investigated. The distribution of the elements in the shells is categorized into four groups. Of these, concentrations of 12 elements （As, Bi, Cd, Co, Ga, Mo, Nb, Sb, Se, Sc, W and Yb） are below zero [（0.053-0.79）×10^-6]; concentrations of seven elements （Cr, Ni, Pb, V, Y, Zr and Cu） are （1.0-6.0）×10^-6; concentrations of four elements （Ti, Mn, Ba and Zn） are 10- 20×10^-6; and concentrations of five elements （Si, Al, Fe, Mg and Sr） are （47.44-268.11）×10^-6. The taxonomic characteristics of the 29 elements were studied separately in mollusk shells such as Chamalea gallina （Linn6）, Pitar rudis （Poli）, Nassarius reticulatus （Linn6）, Venerupis senescens （Coocconi）, Mytilus galloprovincialis （Lamarck）, Mytilaster lineatus （Gemelin in Linne） and Chlamys glabra. It was found that, in mollusk taxonomy, the elements have unique values. In other words, element concentrations in various mollusk shells depend mainly on the taxonomic characteristics of mollusks. In various bionomic environments different element distributions of the same species are attributed to the different geochemical characters of the each environment. Data obtained in this study indicate that the organisms are the most active and deterministic factors of the environment.

Digoxin intoxication： An old enemy in modern era

Objectives Although development of new treatment modalities limited digoxin usage, digoxin intoxication is still an important issue which could be easily overlooked. In this report, we analyzed a case series definitively diagnosed as digoxin intoxication in the modern era. Methods We analyzed 71 patients hospitalized with digoxin intoxication confirmed by history, complaints, clinical and electrocardiograph （ECG） findings, and serum digoxin levels 〉 2.0 ng/mL, during a five year period. The demographic and clinical data, indications for digoxin use, digoxin dosage, concurrent medications, laboratory data, hospital monitoring, and ECG findings were obtained from all patients. Results Thirty-eight of 71 patients （53.5%） had symptoms of heart failure during admission or later. Sixty-four percent of patients were older than 75 years. The percentage of females was 67%. Atrial fibrillation, hypertension and gastrointestinal complaints were more frequent in the females （64% in females, 30% in males, P = 0.007; 81% in female, 52% in males, P = 0.01; 50% in female, 17.3% in males, P = 0.008, respectively）. The mortality rate during the hospital course was 7%. Conclusions This report demonstrated the reduced mortality rates in patients with digoxin intoxication over the study period. Gastrointestinal complaints are the most common symptoms in this population.

An Improved Genetic Algorithm for Crew Pairing Optimization

Crew pairing is a sequence of flights beginning and ending at the same crewbase. Crew pairing planning is one of the primary processes in airline crew scheduling;it is also the primary cost-determining phase in airline crew scheduling. Optimizing crew pairings in an airline timetable helps minimize operational crew costs and maximize crew utilization. There are numerous restrictions that must be considered and just as many regulations that must be satisfied in crew pairing generation. The most important regulations—and the ones that make crew pairing planning a highly constrained optimization problem—are the the limits of the flight and the duty periods. Keeping these restrictions and regulations in mind, the main goal of the optimization is the generation of low cost sets of valid crew pairings which cover all flights in the airline’s timetable. For this research study, We examined studies about crew pairing optimization and used these previously existing methods of crew pairing to develop a new solution of the crew pairing problem using genetic algorithms. As part of the study we created a new genetic operator—called perturbation *** traditional genetic algorithm implementations, this new perturbation operator provides much more stable results, an obvious increase in the convergence rate, and takes into account the existence of multiple crewbases.

Gene expression and histopathological evaluation of thiamine pyrophosphate on optic neuropathy induced with ethambutol in rats

AIM： To compare the effects of thiamine pyrophosphate（TPP） and thiamine（TM） in oxidative optic neuropathy in rats induced by ***： The animals were divided into four groups：a control group（CG）,an ethambutol control（ETC） group,TM plus ethambutol group（TMG）,and TPP plus ethambutol group（TPPG）.One hour after intraperitoneal administration of TM 20 mg/kg to the TMG group and TPP 20 mg/kg to TPPG group,30 mg/kg ethambutol was given via gavage to all the groups but the *** procedure was repeated once daily for 90 *** that period,all rats were exposed to high levels of anaesthesia in order to investigate the gene expression of malondialdehyde and glutathione in removed optic nerve tissue and histopathologically to examine these tissues. RESULTS： Malondialdehyde gene expression significantly increased,whereas glutathione gene expression significantly decreased in the ETC group compared to the *** could not prevent the increase of malondialdehyde gene expression and the decrease of glutathione,while TPP significantly could ***,significant vacuolization in the opticnerve,single-cell necrosis in the glial cells,and a decrease in oligodendrocytes were observed in the ETC *** in the optic nerve,a decrease in oligodendrocytes and single-cell necrosis were found in the TMG group,while no pathological finding was observed in the TPPG group except for mild ***： TPP protects the optic nerve against the ethambutol-induced toxicity but TM does *** can be beneficial in prophilaxis of optic neuropathy in ethambutol therapy.

AIM：To determine the effects of Rutin on methanol induced optic neuropathy and compare the results with the effects of ***：Totally 30 rats were divided into 5 groups,with 6 rats in each group as follows：healthy controls（C）,methotrexate（MTX）,methotrexate＋methanol（MTM）,methotrexate＋methanol＋ethanol（MTME） and methotrexate＋ methanol＋Rutin（MTMR）.In all rabbits except those of the control group,MTX,diluted in sterile serum physiologic,0.3 mg/kg per oral was applied for 7 d by the aid of a *** this procedure to the rats of MTM,MTME and MTMR groups,20% methanol with a dose of 3 g/kg per oral was given by the aid of a *** MTME group,4 h after the application of methanol,20% ethanol was applied by the same way with a dose of 0.5 g/*** the other hand,in MTMR group 4 h after the application of methanol,Rutin,which was dissolved in distilled water,was applied by the same way with a dose of 50 mg/***：There were statistically significant differences in tissue 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanine（8-OHdG）,interleukin-1β（IL-1β）,tumor necrosis factor-alpha（TNF-α）,malondialdehyde（MDA）,myeloperoxidase（MPO）.glutathione peroxidase（t GSH） and superoxide dismutase（SOD） levels between groups（P〈0.001）.In MTMR group tissue 8-OHdG,IL-1β,MDA,and MPO levels were similar with the healthy controls but significantly different than the other *** histopathological evaluations,in MTX group there was moderate focal destruction,hemorrhage and decrease innumber of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTM group there was severe destruction and edema with decrease in number of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTME group there was mild hemorrhage,mild edema,mildly dilated blood vessels with congestion while in MTMR group,optic nerve tissue was resembling the healthy ***：Rutin may prevent methanol-induced optic neuropathy via anti-inflammatory effects and decreasing the oxidative *** treatment options are warranted in this disease to avoid loss of vision in pat

Effects of Home Laundering on Electrical Resistance of Signal Transmission Lines on Colored E-Textiles

The aim of this work was to investigate the electrical resistance change of electro-textiles manufactured using cotton fabrics with stainless steel and silver plated PA yarns incorporation after being subjected to home laundering, i.e. detergent washing and silicone softening. Electrical resistances of conductive yams inside the fabric structure were compared and discussed statistically before and after washing and softener application. Greatest changes in electrical resistances were observed with samples including silver plated PA yams. After five washing cycles with detergent, silicone softening agent is removed from yarns by washing, and thus conductivity increases. Further washing of e-textiles with detergent for five more cycles causes decrease in conductivity, because of chemical effects of detergent and mechanical effects of washing process such as abrasion due to friction. Detergent which has negative reactive sites bonds with metal ions reduces conductivity.
