Application of plasma chemistry for gas cleaning is gaining prominence in recent years, mainly from an energy efficiency point of view. In this paper we conducted a comparative study of NO/NOx removal using two different types of dielectric barrier discharge electrodes, wire- cylinder reactor, pipe-cylinder reactor. Investigations were first carried out with synthetic gases to obtain the baseline information on the NO/NOx removal with respect to the two geometries studied. Further, experiments were carried out with raw diesel exhaust under loaded condition. A high NOx removal efficiency of 90% was observed for the pipe-cylinder reactor as compared to that of 53.4% for the wire-cylinder reactor. Furthermore, for the same energy consumed per NO molecule （about 73 eV/NO molecule）, the removal efficiency increased from 67% for the wire- cylinder to about 98% for the pipe-cylinder which was quite appreciable.

studies on lactobionic acid introduced as a synergist in the presence of phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid （PbTC） and zinc ions for corrosion control of carbon steel in aqueous environment are presented. The investigations revealed that lactobionic acid （LbA） acts as an excellent synergist in corrosion inhibition. Optimum concentrations of all the three components of the ternary formulation are established by gravimetric studies. Potentiodynamic polarization studies indicate that the new ternary system is a mixed inhibitor. Impedance studies show that a protective film is formed on the metal surface in the presence of the inhibitor formulation. The film is found to exhibit its protective nature even at higher temperatures up to 60 ~C. Analysis of the protective film by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPs） and reflection absorption Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy infers the presence of Zn（OH）2, oxides and hydroxides of iron and the inhibitor molecules in the surface film probably in the form of a complex, [Zn（II）-PbTC-LbA]. The morphological studies by scanning electron microscopy （sEM） and the topographical studies by atomic force microscopy （AFM） also indicate the presence of protective film on the metal surface. A plausible mechanism of corrosion inhibition is proposed.

The gases of the interstellar medium(IsM) possess orders of magnitude more mass than those of all the stars combined and are thus the prime component of the baryonic Universe. With L-band surface sensitivity even better than the planned phase one of the square Kilometre Array(sKA1), the Five-hundredmeter Aperture spherical radio Telescope(FAsT) promises unprecedented insights into two of the primary components of IsM, namely, atomic hydrogen(HI) and the hydroxyl molecule(OH). Here, we discuss the evolving landscape of our understanding of IsM, particularly, its complex phases, the magnetic fields within, the so-called dark molecular gas(DMG), high velocity clouds and the connection between local and distant IsM. We lay out, in broad strokes, several expected FAsT projects, including an all northern-sky high-resolution HI survey(22 000 deg2, 3′FWHM beam, 0.2 km s^(-1)), targeted OH mapping, searching for absorption and maser signals, etc. Currently under commissioning, the commensal observing mode of FAsT will be capable of simultaneously obtaining HI and pulsar data streams, making large-scale surveys in both science areas more efficient.

A356 aluminum alloys reinforced with carbon nano-tubes (CNTs) were produced by stir casting and compocasting routes and their microstructural characteristics and hardness were *** order to alleviate the problems associated with poor wettability, agglomeration and gravity segregation of CNTs in the melt, CNTs were introduced into the melts by injection of CNT deposited aluminum particles instead of raw *** particles with mean diameters of less than 100 μm were first deposited by CNTs using Ni-P electroless plating technique and then injected into the melt agitated by a mechanical *** slurry was subsequently cast at temperatures corresponding to full liquid as well as 0.15 and 0.30 solid *** results show that addition of CNTs to A356 matrix can significantly refine both full liquid and semi-solid cast *** of the samples is also significantly increased by addition of CNTs and A356-CNT composite cast at 0.3 solid fraction produces the highest hardness.

Detailed experimental investigations were carried out for microwave pre-treatment of high ash Indian coal at high power level(900 W) in microwave oven. The microwave exposure times were fixed at60 s and 120 s. A rheology characteristic for microwave pre-treatment of coal-water slurry(CWs) was performed in an online bohlin viscometer. The non-Newtonian character of the slurry follows the rheological model of Ostwald de Waele. The values of n and k vary from 0.31 to 0.64 and 0.19 to 0.81 Pa·sn,respectively. This paper presents an artificial neural network(ANN) model to predict the effects of operational parameters on apparent viscosity of CWs. A 4-2-1 topology with Levenberg-Marquardt training algorithm(trainlm) was selected as the controlled ANN. Mean squared error(MsE) of 0.002 and coefficient of multiple determinations(R^2) of 0.99 were obtained for the outperforming model. The promising values of correlation coefficient further confirm the robustness and satisfactory performance of the proposed ANN model.

We propose a new ion-trap geometry to carry out accurate measurements of the quadrupole shifts in the （171）Yb *** trap will minimize the quadrupole shift due to the harmonic component of the confining potential by an order of *** will be useful to reduce the uncertainties in the clock frequency measurements of the 6s 2s（1/2）→4f（13）6s2 2F（7/2）and 6s 2s（1/2）→5d2D（3/2） transitions,from which we can deduce the precise values of the quadrupole moments（0s） of the 4f（13）6s2 2F（7/2） and 5d2D（3/2） ***,it may be able to affirm the validity of the measured 0 value of the4f（13）6s22F（7/2） state,for which three independent theoretical studies defer almost by one order of magnitude from the *** also calculate 0s using the relativistic coupled-cluster（RCC） *** use these 0 values to estimate the quadrupole shift that can be measured in our proposed ion trap experiment.

Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (Abs), with and without calcium carbonate (calcite) particles,was used as the matrix for reinforcement with as-received short-glass fibres (were originallytreated by the manufacturer) and sized short-glass fibres with two amino-silane coupling *** calcite particle content is 0, 11.7 and 23.5 vol. pct for the matrices. The glass fiber contentis 0, 10 and 15 vol. pct. The matrix materials and corresponding composites were compoundedusing a twin screw extruder and dumbbell-shaped tensile bars were prepared with an injectionmolding process. The tensile and flexural properties as well as the unnotched and notchedCharpy impact energies of short glass fibre/calcite/Abs composites were studied in this *** effects of fibres, fibre surface treatments and particles on these mechanical properties ofthe composites were discussed in detail. An importarit information was obtained, which is thatthe tensile and flexural strengths of hybrid sGF/calcite/Abs composites are the same as thoseof corresponding fibre composites when the ratio of the interfacial adhesion strength betweenparticles and matrix to that between fibres and matrix is higher than certain value. otherwise theformer are lower than the latter.

structure with a significant reduction in casting porosity, while the texture changed to sharp basaMeasured mechanical properties of the forged alloy showed that strength did not change, howductility improved by 75%. The analysis of the fracture surface of the forged alloy under tension rea ductile fracture with dimple morphology, while the as-cast alloy displayed a brittle fracture with pores.
