Peyronie's disease:a silent consequence of diabetes mellitus

Aim： To investigate the clinical characteristics of patients with Peyronie＇s disease （PD） and diabetes mellitus （DM）. Methods： During an 8-year period, a total of 307 men seen at our outpatient clinic were diagnosed with PD. Clinical characteristics, penile deformities and the erectile status of patients with PD and DM together （n = 102） were retrospectively analyzed and compared to patients with PD alone with no risk factors for systemic vascular diseases （n = 97）. Results：The prevalence of PD among men with DM and sexual dysfunction was 10.7 %. The mean age of diabetic patients with PD was （55.9 ± 8.9） years; in the no risk factor group it was （48.5 ± 9.0） years （P 〈 0.05）. The median duration of DM was 5 years. The majority of diabetic patients with PD （56.0 %） presented in the chronic phase （P 〈 0.05）, and they were more likely to have a severe penile deformity （〉 60°） than the no risk factor group （P 〈 0.05）. In the diabetic group, the most common presenting symptom was penile curvature （81.4%）, followed by a palpable nodule on the shaft of the penis （22.5%） and penile pain with erection （14.7%）. A total of 19.6% of patients were not aware of their penile deformities in the diabetic group. Erectile function, provided by history and in response to intracavernosal injection and a stimulation test, was significantly diminished in patients with PD and DM （P 〈 0.05）. Conclusion： DM probably exaggerates the fibrotic process in PD. Diabetic patients with PD have a higher risk of severe deformity and erectile dysfunction （ED）. PD seems to be a silent consequence of DM and should be actively sought in diabetic men. （Asian JAndrol 2006 Jan; 8： 75-79）

Polypropylene(PP)fiber-reinforced cement-based tailings backfill(FRCTb)is a green compound material with superior crack resistance and has good prospects for application in underground ***,FRCTb exhibits susceptibility to dynamic events,such as impact ground pressure and blast *** paper investigates the energy and crack distribution behavior of FRCTb under dynamic impact,considering the height/diameter(H/D)*** Hopkinson pressure bar,industrial computed tomography scan,and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)experiments were carried out on six types of *** outcomes confirmed fiber aggregation at the bottom of *** H/D was less than 0.8,the proportion of PP fibers distributed along theθangle direction of80°-90°*** the total energy,all samples presented similar energy absorption,reflectance,and ***,a rise in H/D may cause a rise in the energy absorption rate of FRCTb during the peak phase.A positive correlation existed between the average strain rate and absorbed energy per unit *** increase in H/D resulted in a decreased crack volume fraction of *** the H/D was greater than or equal to 0.7,the maximum crack volume fraction of FRCTb was observed close to the incidence *** cracks were present only in the FRCTb with an H/D ratio of *** with H/D ratios of 0.5 and 0.6 showed similar distributions of weakly and heavily damaged *** fibers can limit the emergence and expansion of cracks by influencing their *** observations revealed considerable differences in the bonding strengths between fibers and the *** that adhered particularly well to the substrate were attracted together with the hydration products adhering to *** results show that FRCTb is promising as a sustainable and green backfill for determining the design properties of mining with backfill.

Cemented tailings backfill(CTb)not only boosts mining safety and cuts surface environmental pollution but also recovers ores previously retained as pillars,thereby improving resource *** use of alternative reinforcing products,such as steel fiber(SF),has continuously strengthened CTb into *** approach prevents strength decreases over time and reinforces its long-term durability,especially when mining ore in adjacent underground *** this study,various microstructure and strength tests were performed on SFCTb,considering steel fiber ratio and electromagnetic induction strength *** findings show that combining steel fibers and their distribution dominantly influences the improvement of the fill’s ***’s strength rises by fiber insertion and has an evident correlation with fiber insertion and magnetic induction *** magnetic induction strength is 3×10^(-4) T,peak uniaxial compressive stress reaches 5.73 MPa for a fiber ratio of 2.0vol%.The cracks’expansion mainly started from the specimen’s upper part,which steadily expanded downward by increasing the load until damage *** doping of steel fiber and its directional distribution delayed crack *** the doping of steel fiber was 2.0vol%,SFCTbs showed excellent ductility *** energy required for fills to reach destruction increases when steel-fiber insertion and magnetic induction strength *** study provides notional references for steel fibers as underground filling additives to enhance the fill’s durability in the course of mining operations.

Under optimal process conditions,pyrolysis of polyolefins can yield ca.90 wt%of liquid product,i.e.,combination of light oil fraction and heavier *** this work,the experimental findings reported in a selected group of publications concerning the non-catalytic pyrolysis of polyolefins were collected,reviewed,and compared with the ones obtained in a continuously operated bench-scale pyrolysis *** process parameters were used for the pyrolysis of waste and virgin counterparts of high-density polyethylene,low-density polyethylene,polypropylene and a defined mixture of those(i.e.,25:25:50 wt%,respectively).To mitigate temperature drops and enhance heat transfer,an increased feed intake is employed to create a hot melt plastic *** 1.5 g·min^(-1) feed intake,1.1 L·min^(-1) nitrogen flow rate,and a moderate pyrolysis temperature of 450℃,the formation of light hydrocarbons was favored,while wax formation was limited for polypropylene-rich *** of virgin plastics yielded more liquid(maximum 73.3 wt%)than that of waste plastics(maximum 66 wt%).blending polyethylenes with polypropylene favored the production of liquids and increased the formation of gasoline-range *** products were mainly composed of C3 hydrocarbons,and no hydrogen production was detected due to moderate pyrolysis temperature.

轨枕垫(USP)因其良好的减震性能已广泛应用于铁路轨道结构,现有研究大多集中于USP对轨道结构刚度和振动响应的影响,但对有砟道床横向阻力影响的研究很少。为深入分析USP对道床横向阻力的影响并揭示其作用机理,建立轨枕-USP-有砟道床-路基三维系统的精细化离散元-有限差分(DEM-FDM)耦合数值模型,采用典型重载铁路有砟道床横向阻力现场实测结果对模型进行标定和验证,进而模拟分析不同工况组合下USP对轨枕不同位置处(枕底、枕侧和枕端)的横向阻力、道砟颗粒运动和粒间接触力等宏微观指标的影响机制。研究结果表明:在相同的轨枕横向位移下,相较于无USP的轨枕,带USP的轨枕其枕底道砟颗粒运动范围更大,横向阻力也更大,且横向阻力增加部分主要来源于枕底USP的不平整性;USP刚度越大,道床横向阻力也越大;采用USP可增加枕底的横向剪应力和最大法向接触力,且两者数值均随USP刚度的增大而增大。

black hole shadows in Einstein-bel-Robinson gravity

Gravity models given by higher-order scalar curvature corrections are believed to bear important consequences. Einstein-bel-Robinson (EbR) gravity with quartic curvature modification motivated Sajadi et al. to explore static spherically symmetric black hole solutions using perturbative methods. In this study, inspired by their work, we investigate AdS black hole shadows in EbR gravity and demonstrate how the gravity parameter alters the energy emission rate. Finally, we address the same problem in the presence of plasma, because the black holes are thought to be surrounded by a medium that changes the geodesic of photons.

Soils in extraterrestrial space: Need for studies under microgravity

With the increased interest of plants in space, gravity cannot be ignored when studying soil-plant-water relations. Therefore, it is important to understand the water relations of soils under zero gravity in space or under reduced gravity on the Moon or Mars. This paper outlines the problems of moving water in soils under zero gravity or microgravity, as well as growing plants in these soils. It is suggested that microgravity experiments could be done on Earth using both soils and plants. Results from such experiments could be used to grow plants when mankind establishes bases on the Moon and Mars.

CompactChain:an efficient stateless chain for UTXO-model blockchain

In this work,we propose a stateless blockchain called CompactChain,which compacts the entire state of the UTXO(Unspent Transaction Output)based blockchain systems into two RSA *** first accumulator is called Transaction Output(TXO)commitment which represents the TXO *** second one is called Spent Transaction Output(STXO)commitment which represents the STXO *** this work,we discuss three algorithms:(i)To update the TXO and STXO commitments by the *** miner also provides the proofs for the correctness of the updated commitments;(ii)To prove the transaction’s validity by providing a membership witness in TXO commitment and non-membership witness against STXO commitment for a coin being spent by a user;(iii)To update the witness for the coin that is not yet spent;The experimental results evaluate the performance of the CompactChain in terms of time taken by a miner to update the commitments and time taken by a validator to verify the commitments and validate the *** compare the performance of CompactChain with the existing state-of-the-art works on stateless *** shows a reduction in commitments update complexity and transaction witness size which inturn reduces the mempool size and propagation latency without compromising the system throughput(Transactions per second(TPS)).
