Numerical investigations of arc behaviour in gas metal arc welding using ANSYS CFX

Current numerical models of gas metal arc welding（GMAW）are trying to combine magnetohydrodynamics （MRD） models of the arc and voiume of fluid （VoF） models of metal transfer They neglect vaporization and assume an argon atmosphere for the arc region, as it is common practice for models of gas tungsten arc welding, These models predict temperatures above 20 000K anda temperature distribution similar to tungsten inert gas （TIG） arcs： However. current spectroscopic temperature measuretemperatures. In contrast to TIG arcs temperature distrbution. The paper vapour and which is in a yery good res, Futhermore; the model is abile to predict the local central minimum in the radial temperature and the radial electric current density distributions for the first time. The axially symmetric model of the welding torch, the work piece, the wire and the arc （fluid domain） implements MHD as well as turbulent mixing and thermal demixing of metal vapour in argon. The mass fraction of iron vapour obtained from the simulation shows an accumulation in the arc core and another accumulation on the fringes of the arc at 2000 to 5000 K. The demixing effects lead to very low concentrations of iron between these two regions. Sensitive analyses demonstrate the influence of the transport and radiation properties of metal vapour, and the evaporation rate relative to the wire feed. Finally the model predictions are compared with the measuring results of Zielihska et al.

Methyl-eugenol （ME）（1,2-dimethoxy-4-（2-propenyl）benzene）, a natural phy- tochemical, did enhance male bactrocera carambolae Drew ＆ Hancock （Diptera： Tephri- tidae） mating competitiveness 3 d after ingestion. Enhanced male mating competitiveness can significantly increase the effectiveness of the sterile insect technique （SIT）. ME appli- cation to mass reared sterile flies by feeding is infeasible. ME application by aromatherapy however, would be a very practical way of ME application in fly emergence and release facilities. This approach was shown to enhance mating competitiveness ofb. carambolae 3 d posttreatment （DPT）. Despite this added benefit, every additional day of delaying re- lease will reduce sterile fly quality and will add cost to SIT application. The present study was planned to assess the effects of ME-aromatherapy on male b. carambolae mating competitiveness 1DPT and 2DPT. ME aromatherapy 1DPT or 2DPT did enhance mating competitiveness of b. carambolae males whereas ME feeding 1DPT and 2DPT did not. Male mating competitiveness was enhanced by the ME aromatherapy irrespective if they received 1DPT, 2DPT or 3DPT. ME aromatherapy, being a viable approach for its applica- tion, did enhance mating competitiveness of male b. carambolae 1 d posttreatrnent as ME feeding did 3 d after ingestion.

Diperoxo Complexes of Vanadium（V） Containing Mannich base Ligands

The vanadium（V） peroxo complexes containing Mannich base ligands having composition Na[VO（O2）2（L-L）]·H2O [where L-L=morpholinobenzyl acetamide （MbA）, piperidinobenzyl acetamide （PbA）, morpholinobenzyl benzamide （Mbb）, piperidinobenzyl benzamide （Pbb）, morpholinomethyl benzamide （MMb）, piperidinomethyl benzamide （PMb）, morpholinobenzyl formamide （MbF）, piperdinobenzyl formamide （PbF）] have been reported. The complexes have been prepared by stirring vanadium pentoxide with excess of 30% aque- ous-H202 followed by treatment with ethanolic solution of the ligand and finally maintained the pH of the reaction mixture by adding dilute solution of sodium hydroxide. The synthesized complexes have been characterized by various physico-chemical techniques, via elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measure- ments, infra red, electronic, mass, ~H NMR spectral and TGA/DTA studies. These studies revealed that the synthesized complexes are uni-univalent electrolytes and diamagnetic in nature. The ligands are bound to metal in a bi- dentate mode through carbonyl oxygen and the ring nitrogen. Thermal analysis result provides conclusive evidence for the presence of one molecule of lattice water in the complexes. Mass spectra confirm the molecular mass of the complexes.

Deregulation of the tyrosine kinase signalling is often associated with tumour progression and drug resistance, but its underlying mechanisms are only partly understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of the receptor tyrosine kinase AXL on the sta- biUty of the MDMX-MDM2 heterocomplex and the activity of p53 in melanoma cells. Our data demonstrated that AXL overexpres- sion or activation through growth arrest-specific 6 （Gas6） Ugand stimulation increases MDMX and MDM2 protein levels and decreases p53 activity. Upon activation, AXL stabilizes MDMX through a post-translational modification that involves phosphoryl- ation of MDMX on the phosphosite Ser314, leading to increased affinity between MDMX and MDM2 and favouring MDMX nuclear translocation. Ser314 phosphorylation can also protect MDMX from MDM2-mediated degradation, leading to stabilization of the MDMX-MDM2 complex. We identified CDK4/6 and p38 MAPK as the two kinases mediating AXL-induced modulation of the MDMX-MDM2 complex, and demonstrated that suppression of AXL, either through siRNA silencing or pharmacological inhibition, increases expression levels of p53 target genes P21, MDM2, and PUMA, improves p53 pathway response to chemotherapy, and sensitizes cells to both Cisplatin and Vemurafenib. Our findings offer an insight into a novel signalling axis linking AXL to p53 and provide a potentially druggable pathway to restore p53 function in melanoma.

New roles for the recently identified group of plant hormones, the strigolactones, are currently under active investigation. One of their key roles is to regulate plant symbioses. These compounds act as a rhizosphere signal in arbuscular mycorrhizal symbioses and as a positive regulator of nodulation in legumes. The phosphorous and nitrogen status of the soil has emerged as a powerful regulator of strigolactone production. However, until now, the potential role of strigolactones in regulating mycorrhizal development and nodulation in response to nutrient deficiency has not been proven. In this paper, the role of strigolactone synthesis and response in regulating these symbioses is examined in pea （Pisum sativum L.）. Pea is well suited to this study, since there is a range of well-characterized strigolactone bio- synthesis and response mutants that is unique amongst legumes. Evidence is provided for a novel endogenous role for strigolactone response within the root during mycorrhizal development, in addition to the action of strigolactones on the fungal partner. The strigolactone response pathway that regulates mycorrhizal development also appears to dif- fer somewhat from the response pathway that regulates nodulation. Finally, studies with strigolactone-deficient pea mutants indicate that, despite strong regulation of strigolactone production by both nitrogen and phosphate, strigolac- tones are not required to regulate these symbioses in response to nutrient deficiency.

This paper reports an investigation on the giant magnetoresistance and microstructure evolution in melt-spun Cu_(70)Co_(30) *** results show that the phase separation is inevitable in the course of quenching,leading to the formation of two types of fcc magnetic Co-rich particles but these do not appear to contribute to the magnetoresistance(MR).On annealing,a very fine distribution of Co-rich precipitates forms at temperatures above 573 K which are responsible for the high MR developed in this material.

The polycrystalline samples of complex tungsten bronze(Tb)Na_(2)Pb_(2)R_(2)W_(2)Ti_(4)V_(4)O_(30)(R=Dy,Pr)compounds were prepared by solid-state reaction ***-temperature preliminary structural studies confirm the formation of the compounds in the orthorhombic crystal *** studies of electrical properties of the materials using complex impedance spectroscopy technique exhibit that the impedance and related parameters are strongly dependent upon temperature and microstructure(bulk,grain boundary,etc).An observation of negative temperature coefficient of resistance(NTCR)suggests the materials have semiconducting *** variation of AC conductivity with temperature shows a typical Arrhenius behavior of the *** the samples obey Jonscher’s universal power *** existence of hopping mechanism in the electrical transport processes in the system with non-exponential type of conductivity relaxation is confirmed by electrical modulus analysis.
