Model-based Assessment of Climate Change Impact on Isaac River Catchment, Queensland

Isaac River catchment, which is located within Fitzroy basin in Central Queensland, Australia is mostly a semi-arid region, sparsely populated, but rife with economic activities such as mining, grazing, cropping and production forestry. Hydro-meteorological data over the past several decades reveal that the catchment is experiencing increasing variability in precipitation and streamflow contributing to more severe droughts and floods supposedly due to climate change. The exposure of the economic activities in the catchment to the vagaries of nature and the possible impacts of climate change on the stream flow regime are to be analyzed. For the purpose, SWAT model was adopted to capture the dynamics of the catchment. During calibration of the model 12 parameters were found to be significant which yielded a R2 value of 0.73 for calibration and 0.66 for validation. In the next stage, six GCMs from CMIP3 namely, CGCM3.1/T47, CNRM-CM3, GFDL-CM2.1, IPSLCM4, MIROC3.2 (medres) and MRI CGCM2.3.2 were selected for climate change projections in the Fitzroy basin under a very high emissions scenario (A2), a medium emissions scenario (A1b) and a low emissions scenario (b1) for two future periods (2046-2064) and (2080-2100). All GCMs showed consistent increases in temperature, and as expected, highest rate for A2 and lowest rate for b1. Precipitation predictions were mixed-reductions in A2 and increases in A1b and b1, and more variations in distant future compared to near future. When the projected temperatures and precipitation were inputted into the SWAT model, and the model outputs were compared with the baseline period (1980-2010), the picture that emerged depicted worsening water resources variability.

The aim of this paper deals with the study of the Horn matrix function of two complex variables. The convergent properties, an integral representation of H2(A,A′,b,b′;C;z,w) is obtained and recurrence matrix relations are given. Some result when operating on Horn matrix function with the differential operator D and a solution of certain partial differential equations are established. The Hadamard product of two Horn’s matrix functions is studied, certain results as, the domain of regularity, contiguous functional relations and operating with the differential operator D and D2 are established.

The Influences of Climate Change on the Runoff of Gharehsoo River Watershed

The purpose of this study is to survey the impact of climate change on the runoff of Gharehsoo River in northwest of Iran. In this research the outputs of monthly precipitation and temperature data of PRECIS model, which is a regional climate model with 50 × 50 km resolution on the basis of b2 scenario, have been utilized for base (1961-1990) and future (2071-2100) periods. The output results of PRECIS model show that the average temperature of watershed increased up to 2°C - 5°C. In addition, future precipitation is more than the base precipitation on January, February, March, September and December. The observed data of 1996-2002 used for calibration of HSPF model and the data of 2003-2004 were used for HSPF validation. The present monthly patterns for precipitation and temperature were estimated using the geostatistical techniques and the future monthly patterns were retrieved by the combination of future monthly PRECIS data and monthly patterns of precipitation and temperature. Then, the base and future precipitation and temperature patterns were introduced to validate HSPF model for the simulation of monthly runoff in the base and future periods. The results show that in the future, the discharge of Gharehsoo River watershed decreases in all of the months. In addition, the peak discharge in the future period happens one month earlier, in April, because of increase of temperature and earlier beginning of snow melting season. Finally the sensitivity analysis was performed on the monthly runoff. The results showed that monthly discharge increases 0.3% - 35.6% and decreases 0.3% - 32.6% due to 20% increase and decrease of precipitation, respectively. In addition, 1°C and 2°C increase of temperature lead to 0% - 8% and 0.1% - 15% decrease of average monthly discharge, respectively.

Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources of Greater Zab River, Iraq

Greater Zab is the largest tributary of the Tigris River in lraq where the catchment area is currently being plagued by water scarcity and pollution problems. Contemporary studies have revealed that blue and green waters of the basin have been manifesting increasing variability contributing to more severe droughts and floods apparently due to climate change. In order to gain greater appreciation of the impacts of climate change on water resources in the study area in near and distant future, SWAT （Soil and Water Assessment Tool） has been used. The model is first tested for its suitability in capturing the basin characteristics, and then, forecasts from six GCMs （general circulation models） with about half-a-century lead time to 2046-2064 and one-century lead time to 2080-2100 are incorporated to evaluate the impacts of climate change on water resources under three emission scenarios： A 1 b, A2 and bI. The results showed worsening water resources regime into the future.

Effect of vitamin E and human placenta cysteine peptidase inhibitor on expression of cathepsins b and L in implanted hepatoma Morris 5123 tumor model in Wistar rats

AIM: To examine the effectiveness of human placental inhibitors, by injecting vitamin E to rats with transplanted Morris-5123 hepatoma, on the expression of cathepsins b and L in tumor, liver, lung and blood sera after transplantation of Morris 5123 hepatoma. METHODS: Animals were divided into 10 groups receiving three different concentrations of vitamin E and inhibitors along or in combination and compared with negative control (healthy rats) and positive control (tumor rats). Effectiveness of treatment was evaluated with regard to survival time, tumor response and determination of the activities of proteolytic enzymes and their inhibitors using flurogenic substrates. RESULTS: Cathepsins b and L activities were elevated by 16-fold in comparison with negative control tissues, and their endogenous inhibitor activity decreased by 1.2-fold before treatment. In several cases, tumors completely disappeared following vitamin E plus human placental cyteine protease inhibitor (CPI) compared with controls. The number of complete tumor responses was higher when 20 m/kg vitamin E plus 400 μg of CPI was used, i.e. 7/10 rats survived more than two mo. Cathepsins b and L were expressed significantly in tumor, liver, lung tissues and sera in parallel to the increasing of the endogenous inhibitor activity compared with the controls after treatment(Pbasis for anti-cancer therapy.

Synthesis of Some More New Fluorinated 1,2,4-triazino[3,4-b][1,3,4]Thiadiazolonesand Their Molluscicidal Against Selective Snails - Part I

Some more new fluorinated 1,2,4-triasino[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazolones （6-9 and 11-16） have been synthesized from cyclocondensation of 5-hydrazino-2-（4＇-fluorophenyl）-1,3,4-thiadiazole with bifunctional oxygen and halogen compounds. Structures of the products have been deduced from their elemental, chemical and spectral data （UV, IIL 1H/13C NMR （nuclear magnetic resonance） and mass）. All the new compounds evaluated as molluscicidal against towards snails which responsible for bilharziasis diseases.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of hydroxysafflor yellow A(HSYA)on thioacetamide-induced liver ***:Thioacetamide was administered to rats intraperitoneally in doses of 200 mg/kg twice a week for 12 ***-intoxicated rats were given silymarin(50 mg/kg)or HSYA(5 mg/kg)orally every day for 8 *** enzymes,fibrosis markers,histological changes as well as immunohistochemistry of TNF-α,IL-6,p21,α-SMA,and caspase-3 were *** effect of HSYA on HSC-T6 activation/proliferation and apoptosis was also determined in ***:HSYA decreased liver enzymes,TNF-α,IL-6,and p21 expressions,hepatic PDGF-b,TIMP-1,TGF-β1,and hydroxyproline levels,as well as fibrosis score(S2 vs.S4)compared to the thioacetamide *** also downregulatedα-SMA while increasing caspase-3 ***,at 500μg/mL,HSYA had only a slightly suppressive effect on HSC proliferation,with a 9.5%***,it significantly reduced TGF-β1,inhibitedα-SMA expression,induced caspase-3 expression,and promoted cell ***:HSYA may be a potential therapeutic agent for delaying and reversing the progression of liver *** research on HSYA at higher doses and for a longer period is warranted.

Hepatoprotective Effect of Costus Roots Extract against Carbon Tetrachloride （CCI4）-Induced Liver Injury in Guinea Pigs

SC （Saussurea costus）（Asteraceae） is a traditionally known and potent plant which is well considered for its medicinal uses in different indigenous Indian systems of medicine. This study was undertaken to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of SC against liver injury induced by CC14 intoxication. Animals were divided into five groups. Group I, served as normal control. Group II received 2 mL CC14/kg b.w. diluted with olive oil, at 1：1 ratio on day 11. Groups III and IV were pre-treated orally respectively with 100 and 200 mg/kg b.w. aqueous roots extract of SC for 10 days followed by subcutaneous injection of CC14 （2 mL/kg b.w.）, once on day 11. Group V were orally given Liv-52 （100 mg/kg b.w.） once daily for 10 days followed by subcutaneous injection of CC14 （2 mL/kg b.w.）, once on day 11. Our results show that, the activity of serum hepatic enzymes （ALT, AST, and ALP） were significantly elevated in guinea pigs treated with CC14, while both the SC root extract and Liv-52 reduced significantly these enzymes activity. Also, the levels of glucose, urea and cholesterol were decreased when compared with intoxicated control. Histopathological examination of intoxicated animals showed dilation, hemorrhage, vacuolization, inflammation and necrosis indicating liver damage, while the animals received SC or Liv-52 that showed less pathological effects or normal liver when compared to animals treated with CC14 alone. biochemical and histological results confirm the hepatoprotective effect of aqueous extract of SC.

The Impacts of Climate Change on Fitzroy River basin, Queensland, Australia

An analysis of historical data of Fitzroy River, which lies in the east coast of Australia, reveals that there is an increasing trend in extreme floods and droughts apparently attributable to increased variability of blue and green waters which could be due to climate change. In order to get a better understanding of the impacts of climate change on the water resources of the study area for near future as well as distant future, SWAT （soil and water assessment tool） model was applied. The model is first tested for its suitability in capturing the basin characteristics with available data, and then, forecasts from six GCMs （general circulation model） with about half-a-century lead time to 2046-2064 and about one-century lead time to 2080-2100 are incorporated to evaluate the impacts of climate change under three marker emission scenarios： A2, A1b and b 1. The results showed worsening water resources regime into the future.
