DeepsecE:A Deep-Learning-based Framework for Multiclass Prediction of secreted Proteins in Gram-Negative bacteria

Proteins secreted by Gram-negative bacteria are tightly linked to the virulence and adaptability of these microbes to environmental *** identification of such secreted proteins can facilitate the investigations of infections and diseases caused by these bacterial ***,current bioinformatic methods for predicting bacterial secreted substrate proteins have limited computational efficiency and application scope on a genome-wide ***,we propose a novel deep-learning-based framework—DeepsecE—for the simultaneous inference of multiple distinct groups of secreted proteins produced by Gram-negative *** remarkably improves their classification from nonsecreted proteins using a pretrained protein language model and transformer,achieving a macro-average accuracy of 0.883 on 5-fold *** benchmarking suggests that DeepsecE achieves competitive performance with the state-of-the-art binary predictors specialized for individual types of secreted *** attention mechanism corroborates salient patterns and motifs at the N or C termini of the protein *** this pipeline,we further investigate the genome-wide prediction of novel secreted proteins and their taxonomic distribution across~1,000 Gram-negative bacterial *** present analysis demonstrates that DeepsecE has major potential for the discovery of disease-associated secreted proteins in a diverse range of Gram-negative *** online web server of DeepsecE is also publicly available to predict and explore various secreted substrate proteins via the input of bacterial genome sequences.

Physiological and perceptual responses to sprint interval exercise using arm versus leg cycling ergometry

Increases in power output and maximal oxygen consumption(V_O2max)occur in response to sprint interval exercise(sIE),but common use of“all-out”intensities presents a barrier for many ***,lower-body sIE is not feasible for all *** compared physiological and perceptual responses to supramaximal,but“nonall-out”sIE between leg and arm cycling ***-four active adults(mean±sD age:[25±7]y;cycling VO_(2)max:[39±7]mL·kg^(-1)·min^(-1))performed incremental exercise using leg(LCE)and arm cycle ergometry(ACE)to determine VO_(2)max and maximal work capacity(Wmax).subsequently,they performed four 20 s bouts of sIE at 130% Wmax on the LCE or ACE at cadence=120-130 rev/min,with 2 min recovery between *** exchange data,heart rate(HR),blood lactate concentration(bLa),rating of perceived exertion(RPE),and affective valence were *** showed significantly lower(pbsolute mean([1.24±0.31]L·min^(-1) vs.[1.59±0.34]L·min^(-1);d=1.08)and peak VO_(2)([1.79±0.48]L·min^(-1) vs.[2.10±0.44]L·min^(-1);d=0.70)with ACE versus ***,ACE elicited significantly higher(ps.[57%±7%]VO_(2)max,d=0.63)and peak VO_(2)([88%±10%]VO_(2)max vs.[75%±10%]VO_(2)max,d?1.33).Post-exercise bLa was significantly higher([7.0±1.7]mM vs.[5.7±1.5]mM,p=0.024,d?0.83)for LCE versus *** was no significant effect of modality on RPE or affective valence(p>0.42),and lowest affective valence recorded(2.0±1.8)was considered“good to fairly good”.Data show that non“all-out”ACE elicits lower absolute but higher relative HR and VO_(2) compared to *** aversive perceptual responses could make this non-all-out modality feasible for inactive adults.

Forest productivity is closely linked to seasonal variations and vertical differentiation in leaf ***,leaf structural and chemical traits variation among co-existing species,and plant functional types within the canopy are poorly *** this study,the seasonality of leaf chlorophyll,nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)were quantified vertically along the canopy of four major tree species and two types of herbs in a temperate deciduous *** role of shade tolerance in shaping the seasonal variation and vertical differentiation was *** the entire season,chlorophyll content showed a distinct asymmetric unimodal pattern for all species,with greater chlorophyll levels in autumn than in spring,and the timing of peak chlorophyll per leaf area gradually decreased as shade tolerance *** a:b ratios gradually decreased with increasing shade *** N and P contents sharply declined during leaf expansion,remained steady in the mature stage and decreased again during leaf *** the seasons,the lower canopy layer had significantly higher chlorophyll per leaf mass but not chlorophyll per leaf area than the upper canopy layer regardless of degree of shade ***,N and P per leaf area of intermediate shade-tolerant and fully shade-tolerant tree species were significantly higher in the upper canopy than in the *** variations in N:P ratios suggest changes in N or P *** findings indicate that shade tolerance is a key feature shaping inter-specific differences in leaf chlorophyll,N,and P contents as well as their seasonality in temperate deciduous forests,which have significant implications for modeling leaf photosynthesis and ecosystem production.

Three-dimensional thermohaline structure estimation derived from HY-2 satellite data over the Maritime silk Road and its applications

The first factor affecting dryland winter wheat grain yield under various mulching measures: spike number

Water is the key factor limiting dryland wheat grain *** affects crop yield and yield components by affecting soil *** research is needed to determine the relationships between yield components and soil moisture with yield,and to identify the most important factor affecting grain yield under various mulching measures.A long-term 9-yearifeld experiment in the Loess Plateau of Northwest China was carried out with three treatments:no mulch (CK),plastic mulch (M_(P)) and straw mulch (M_(s)).Yield factors and soil moisture were measured,and the relationships between them were explored by correlation analysis,structural equation modeling and significance *** results showed that compared with CK,the average grain yields of M_(P) and M_(s) increased by 13.0and 10.6%,*** average annual grain yield of the M_(P) treatment was 134 kg ha^(–1) higher than the M_(s) *** were no significant differences in yield components among the three treatments (Psoil water storage of the M_(s) treatment was greater than the M_(P) treatment,although the differences were not statistically *** water storage during the summer fallow period (sWssF) and soil water storage before sowing (sWss) of M_(s) were significantly higher than in CK,which increased by 38.5 and 13.6%,*** relationship between M_(P) and CK was not statistically significant for sWssF,but the sWss in M_(P) was significantly higher than in *** terms of soil water storage after harvest (sWsH) and water consumption in the growth period(ET),there were no signi?cant differences among the three *** on the three analysis methods,we found that spike number and ET were positively correlated with grain ***,the relative importance of spike number to yield was the greatest in the M_(P )and M_(s) treatments,while that of ET was the greatest in *** sWssF could indirectly increase spike number and ET in the three treatments.b

Influence of lithospheric thickness distribution on oil and gas basins,China seas and adjacent areas

The distribution of oil and gas resources is intricately connected to the underlying structure of the ***,investigating the characteristics of lithospheric thickness and its correlation with oil and gas basins is highly *** research utilizes recently enhanced geological–geophysical data,including topographic,geoid,rock layer thickness,variable rock layer density,and interface depth *** the principles of lithospheric isostasy and heat conduction,we compute the laterally varying lithospheric thickness in the China seas and adjacent *** these results,two pivotal parameters for different types of oil and gas basins were statistically analyzed:the minimum lithospheric thickness and the relative fluctuation in lithospheric thickness.A semiquantitative analysis was used to explore the connection between these parameters and the hydrocarbon abundance within the oil and gas *** study unveils distinct variations in lithospheric thickness among basins,with oil and gas rich basins exhibiting a thicker lithosphere in the superimposed basins of central China and a thinner lithosphere in the rift basins of eastern ***,the relative fluctuations in lithospheric thickness in basins demonstrate significant disparities:basins rich in oil and gas often exhibit greater thickness ***,in the offshore basins of China,a conspicuous negative linear correlation is observed between the minimum lithospheric thickness and the relative fluctuation in lithospheric *** study posits that deep-seated thermal upwelling results in lithospheric undulations and extensional thinning in oil and gas ***,sustained deep-seated heat influences sedimentary materials in basins,creating favorable conditions for oil and gas *** insights derived from this study contribute to a quantitative understanding of the intricate relationships between deep lithospheric structures and oil and gas basins.

A flame-retardant binder with high polysulfide affinity for safe and stable lithium–sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur(Li-s) batteries have shown promises for the next-generation, high-energy electrochemical storage, yet are hindered by rapid performance decay due to the polysulfide shuttle in the cathode and safety concerns about potential thermal runaway. To address the above challenges, herein, we show a flame-retardant cathode binder that simultaneously improves the electrochemical stability and safety of batteries. The combination of soft and hard segments in the polymer framework of binders allows high flexibility and mechanical strength for adapting to the drastic volume change during the Li(de)intercalation of the s cathode. The binder contains a large number of polar groups, which show the high affinity to polysulfides so that they help to anchor active s species at the cathode. These polar groups also help to regulate and facilitate the Li-ion transport, promoting the kinetics of polysulfide conversion reaction. The binder contains abundant phosphine oxide groups, which, in the case of battery's thermal runaway, decompose and release PO· radicals to quench the combustion reactions and stop the fire. Consequently, Li-s batteries using the new cathode binder show the improved electrochemical performance, including a low-capacity decay of 0.046% per cycle for 800 cycles at 1 C and favorable rate capabilities of up to 3 C. This work offers new insights on the practical realization of high-energy rechargeable batteries with stable storage electrochemistry and high safety.
