The type locality for high-temperature,low-pressure regional metamorphism,the buchan block in Ne scotland.e.hibits profound differences to the rest of the Grampian *** differences have led some to regard the buchan block as an exotic crustal fragment comprising Precambrian b.s.ment gneisses and cover rocks thrust into their current position during Grampian *** rocks of the buchan block are now generally correlated with dalradian strata elsewhere,the origin of the gneisses and the cause of the high heat flow and associated magmatism is *** report sIMs U-Pb and LA-ICPMs Hf isotopic data in zircon from high-grade rocks from the northeast(Inzie Head Gneiss)and northwest(Portsoy)corners of the buchan *** Inzie Head,upper amphibolite to granulite facies metasedimentary gneisses coexist with diorite sheets that were emplaced contemporaneously with partial melting of their host rocks,at least locally.U-Pb geochronology indicates a crystallisation age for the diorite of 486±9 ***-deformed diorites within the Portsoy Gabbro have a crystallisation age of 493±8 *** of ca.490 Ma for magmatism and high-grade metamorphism,which are broadly contemporaneous with ophiolite obduction and the onset of orogenesis,are significantly older than the established peak of Grampian metamorphism(ca.470 Ma).We propose a new model for the Grampian Orogeny involving punctuated tectonothermal activity d.e.to tectonic switching during accretionary *** of a NW-dipping subduction zone at ca.490 Ma produced a back-arc environment(the buchan block)with associated arc magmatism and high dT/dP *** of an outboard arc resulted in shortening(the initial phase of the Grampian Orogeny)at ca.488 *** of a NW-dipping subduction zone to the se of the ca.488 Ma suture began at 473 Ma and led to lithospheric-scale extension,decompression melting and ad.e.tive heating of the midd.e.crust,producing the widespread ca.470 Ma Gram

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describ.s.the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAs Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAs *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are stud.e.:one tagger is b.s.d on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Quantifying relations between altered hydrology and fish community responses for streams in Minnesota

background:Altered hydrology is a stressor on aquatic life,but quantitative relations between specific aspects of streamflow alteration and biological responses have not been developed on a statewide scale in *** sub.s.ts regression analysis was used to develop linear regression models that quantify relations among five categories of hydrologic metrics(i.e.,duration,frequency,magnitude,rate-of-change,and timing)computed from streamgage records and six categories of biological metrics(i.e.,composition,habitat,life history,reproductive,tolerance,trophic)computed from fish-community samples,as well as fish-b.s.d indices of biotic integrity(FIbI)scores and FIbI scores normalized to an impairment threshold of the corresponding stream class(FIbI_bCG4).Relations between hydrology and fish community responses were examined using three hydrologic datasets that represented periods of record,long-term changes,and short-term changes to flow regimes in streams of ***:Regression models demonstrated significant relations between hydrologic explanatory metrics and fish-b.s.d biological response metrics,and the five regression models with the strongest linear relations explained over 70%of the variability in the biological metric using three hydrologic metrics as explanatory ***-b.s.d biological metrics demonstrated the strongest linear relations to hydrologic *** most commonly used hydrologic metrics were related to bankfull flows and aspects of flow ***:Final regression models represent paired streamgage records and biological samples throughout the state of Minnesota and.e.compass differences in stream orders,hydrologic landscape units,and watershed *** methods can support evaluations of stream fish communities and facilitate targeted.e.forts to improve the health of fish *** also can be applied to locations outside of Minnesota with continuous streamgage data and fish-community sampl

Advances in mass spectrometry(Ms)have enabled high-throughput analysis of proteomes in biological *** state-of-the-art Ms data analysis relies on datab.s. search algorithms to quantify proteins by identifying peptide–spectrum matches(PsMs),which convert mass spectra to peptide *** datab.s. search algorithms use distinct search strategies and thus may identify unique ***,no existing approaches can aggregate all user-specified datab.s. search algorithms with a guaranteed increase in the number of identified peptides and a control on the false discovery rate(FdR).To fill in this gap,we proposed a statistical framework,Aggregation of Peptide Identification Results(APIR),that is universally compatible with all datab.s. search ***,under an FdR threshold,APIR is guaranteed to identify at least as many,if not more,peptides as individual datab.s. search algorithms *** of APIR on a complex proteomics standard dataset showed that APIR outpowers individual datab.s. search algorithms and.e.pirically controls the *** data stud.e. showed that APIR can identify disease-related proteins and post-translational modifications missed by some individual datab.s. search *** APIR framework is easily extendable to aggregating discoveries made by multiple algorithms in other high-throughput biomedical data analysis,e.g.,differential gene expression analysis on RNA sequencing *** APIR R package is available at https://***/yiling0210/APIR.

The design of alloys for use in gas turbine engine blades is a complex task that involves balancing multiple objectives and *** alloys must be ductile at room temperature and retain their yield strength at high temperatures,as well as possess low density,high thermal conductivity,narrow solidification range,high solidus temperature,and a small linear thermal expansion *** Integrated Computational Materials engineering(ICMe)methods are not sufficient for exploring combinatorially-vast alloy design spaces,optimizing for multiple objectives,nor ensuring that multiple constraints are *** this work,we propose an approach for solving a constrained multi-objective materials design problem over a large composition space,specifically focusing on the Mo-Nb-Ti-V-W system as a representative Multi-Principal element Alloy(MPeA)for potential use in next-generation gas turbine *** approach is able to learn and adapt to unknown constraints in the design space,making decisions about the b.s. course of action at each stage of the *** a result,we identify 21 Pareto-optimal alloys that satisfy all *** proposed framework is significantly more efficient and faster than a brute force approach.

Refractory multi-principal-element alloys(RMPeAs)exhibit high specific strength at elevated temperatures(T).However,current RMPeAs lack a balance of room-temperature(RT)ductility,high-T strength,and high-T creep *** density-functional theory methods,we scanned composition space using four criteria:(1)formation energies for operational stability:-150e_(f)≤+70 meV per atom;(2)higher strength found via interstitial electron density with Young’s moduli e>250 GPa;(3)inverse Pugh ratio for ductility:G/bd(4)high melting points:T_(m)>2500°*** rapid bulk alloy synthesis and characterization,we validated theory and down-selected promising alloy compositions and discovered Mo72.3W12.8Ta10.0Ti2.5Zr2.5 having well-balanced RT and high-T mechanical *** alloy has comparable high-T compressive strength to well-known MoNbTaW but is more ductile and more creep *** is also superior to a commercial Mo-b.s.d refractory alloy and a nickel-b.s.d superalloy(Haynes-282)with improved high-T tensile strength and creep resistance.

The levels in neutron-rich odd-A ^(107,109)Ru nuclei have been investigated by using γ -γ -and γ -γ -γ-coincidence stud.e. of the prompt γ-rays from the spontaneous fission of 252Cf. The ground state bands and the negative parity bands are identified and.e.panded in both nuclei. Triaxial rotor plus particle model calculations indicate the ground state bands originate from v(d_(5/2)+g_(7/2)) quasiparticle configurations and the negative parity bands are from vh_(11/2) orbital.

The mechanical, electronic and magnetic properties of non-magnetic MgTe and ferro-magnetic （FM） Mgo.75 TM025 Te （TM = Fe, Co, Ni） in the zinc-blende phase are stud.e. by ab-initio calculations for the first time. We use the generalized grad.e.t approximation functional for computing the structural stability, and mechanical properties, while the modified becke and johnson local （spin） density approximation （mbJLdA） is utilized for determining the electronic and magnetic properties. by comparing the energies of non-magnetic and FM calculations, we find that the compounds are stable in the FM phase, which is confirmed by their structural stabilities in terms of enthalpy of formation. detailed descriptions of elastic properties of Mgo.75TMo.25Te alloys in the FM phase are also presented. For electronic properties, the spin- polarized.e.ectronic band structures and density of states are computed, showing that these compounds are direct bandgap materials with strong hybridizations of TM 3d states and Te p states. Further, the ferromagnetism is discussed in terms of the Zener free electron model, RKKY model and double exchange model. The charge density contours in the （110） plane are calculated to study bonding properties. The spin exchange splitting and crystal field splitting energies are also calculated. The distribution of electron spin density is employed in computing the magnetic moments appearing at the magnetic sites （Fe, Co, Ni）, as well as at the non-magnetic sites （Mg, Te）. It is found that the p-d hybridization causes not only magnetic moments on the magnetic sites but also induces negligibly small magnetic moments at the non-magnetic sites.
