Rice is sensitive to salinity stress at both the seedling and reproductive *** present study used 145 rice genotypes comprising of 100 landraces and 45 advanced breeding lines collected from different regions of *** genotypes were evaluated in hydroponics under control[electrical conductivity(ECe)~1.2 dS/m]and saline(ECe~10.0 dS/m)environments along with susceptible(IR29)and tolerant(FL478)*** stress susceptibility index for eight morphophysiological traits was *** of variance showed significant differences among the genotypes for all the parameters studied in control,stress and relative stress *** identified 3 landraces(Kuttimanja,Tulasimog and IET-13713I)as tolerant and 14 lines as moderately tolerant to salt *** correlations in the morphological(root and shoot lengths)and physiological traits(shoot Na^(+),Ca^(2+)and mg^(2+)contents,and Na^(+)/K^(+)ratio)were observed under all the *** hierarchical cluster analysis grouped the genotypes into five clusters,among which cluster Ⅱ comprised salt-tolerant *** of Saltol region using 11 simple sequence repeat markers on 17 saline tolerant and moderately tolerant lines was *** AP3206F,Rm10793 and Rm3412b,located close to SKC1 gene(11.23‒12.55 mb),displayed diverse allelic variations and they were not related to the FL478 *** this region,tolerant lines like Kuttimanja,IET-13713I and Tulasimog have new *** a result,these lines may be suitable candidates for novel genomic regions governing rice salinity ***-tolerance ability of Kuttimanja,Tulasimog and IET-13713I was validated in two years in three salinity stress *** promising lines can be used in breeding programs to broaden the genetic base of salinity tolerance in rice,and it may help to dissect key genomic regions responsible for salinity tolerance.

Soils in extraterrestrial space: Need for studies under microgravity

With the increased interest of plants in space, gravity cannot be ignored when studying soil-plant-water relations. Therefore, it is important to understand the water relations of soils under zero gravity in space or under reduced gravity on the moon or mars. This paper outlines the problems of moving water in soils under zero gravity or microgravity, as well as growing plants in these soils. It is suggested that microgravity experiments could be done on Earth using both soils and plants. Results from such experiments could be used to grow plants when mankind establishes bases on the moon and mars.

Semi-analytical investigation of heat transfer in a porous convective radiative moving longitudinal fin exposed to magnetic field in the presence of a shape-dependent trihybrid nanofluid

The thermal examination of a non-integer-ordered mobile fin with a magnetism in the presence of a trihybrid nanofluid(Fe_3O_4-Au-Zn-blood) is carried out. Three types of nanoparticles, each having a different shape, are considered. These shapes include spherical(Fe_3O_4), cylindrical(Au), and platelet(Zn) configurations. The combination approach is utilized to evaluate the physical and thermal characteristics of the trihybrid and hybrid nanofluids, excluding the thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity. These two properties are inferred by means of the interpolation method based on the volume fraction of nanoparticles. The governing equation is transformed into a dimensionless form, and the Adomian decomposition Sumudu transform method(ADSTm) is adopted to solve the conundrum of a moving fin immersed in a trihybrid nanofluid. The obtained results agree well with those numerical simulation results, indicating that this research is reliable. The influence of diverse factors on the thermal overview for varying noninteger values of γ is analyzed and presented in graphical representations. Furthermore, the fluctuations in the heat transfer concerning the pertinent parameters are studied. The results show that the heat flux in the presence of the combination of spherical, cylindrical, and platelet nanoparticles is higher than that in the presence of the combination of only spherical and cylindrical nanoparticles. The temperature at the fin tip increases by 0.705 759% when the value of the Peclet number increases by 400%, while decreases by 11.825 13% when the value of the Hartman number increases by 400%.

Astrophysical S-factor and reaction rate for 15N(p,γ)16O within the modified potential cluster model

Effect of Processing and Cultivar on Thermo-Chemical Properties of Australian-Grown Hemp Hurd (Cannabis sativa L.)

This study explored the thermo-chemical properties of industrial hemp hurd with different provenances, maturity stages, and retting protocols. The findings were then compared to hemp hurd used in the fabrication of citric acid-bonded ultra-low-density hemp hurd particleboard. Pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/mS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were employed to document the variability of the hurd and comprehend the potential impact on biobased composite applications. The choice of cultivar, maturity stage, and processing modality significantly influenced the chemical composition, presence of functional groups, and thermal stability of the hurd. Py-GC/mS revealed substantial variations in the lignin-to-carbohydrate (L/C) ratio, along with the absence of fatty acids in certain cultivars. While FTIR signals confirmed consistent functional groups, differences in peak intensities were indicative of carbohydrate variations associated with maturity and retting duration, impacting the availability of hydroxyl groups for, i.e., interparticle bonding in citric acid-based bio-composites. Furthermore, it was observed that shorter retting durations initially enhanced the thermal resistance, but prolonged retting led to accelerated degradation, significantly reducing the hurd’s residual mass. The findings indicated notable differences among the samples, emphasizing the importance of investigating variables such as provenance/cultivar, maturity,andprocessing modality. This assessment is essential to ensure effective agronomic practices that align the raw material characteristics with the specific requirements of intended applications, such as the fabrication of biobased hemp hurd composites. © 2024 The Authors.
